高等教育中学生信息素质教育探讨

通过对康定师专学生利用图书馆文献信息的状况进行分析,找出当前在读者信息素质教育存在的不足,并提出提高高校学生信息素质的几点设想。     

Information Systems Education in the USA

Fast changing information technology (IT) has posed tremendous challenges to information systems (IS) educational programmes. One question frequently asked by IS educators has been: ‘Are we doing the right thing?’ This article presents information about the current state of IS educational programmes in the USA based on a survey of 193 higher education institutions conducted at the end of 1996. The results indicate that IS educational programmes are prevalent in the higher educational institutions. These programmes have a highly qualified faculty: 92% or more holding terminal degrees, more than two-thirds having tenure, with evidence of an increasing amount of time being devoted to research activities. It is also found that the most popular programming languages taught in both graduate and undergraduate programmes are C/C++, SQL and COBOL, and dominant operating systems are Windows/OS2 and UNIX. The most profound change over the last five years in the content of IS programmes has been the transition from text-based and centralized mainframe environment to the graphical and decentralized network based client–server architecture. This survey provides a snapshot of IS programmes, serving both to improve our understanding of current programmes and to provide a frame of reference for future studies.

Quality Systems and ISO 9000 in Higher Education

In the contemporary discussion about quality in higher education, so called ‘quality systems’ have received widespread attention. In this paper, quality systems in general, and ISO 9000 in particular, will be described, together with the results from a survey of institutions in higher education worldwide. The intention was to find out where, why and how quality systems had been implemented. The institutions involved have experiences of the implementation of quality systems according to some part of the ISO 9000 series of standards, and in most cases they have also gained certification to some standard. As well as the results from the study, some comments concerning quality systems and their implementation thereof in higher education are given.     

Internationalisation as a Challenge for Higher Education in Europe

'Internationalisation' became a key theme in the 1990s both in higher education policy debates and in higher education research. Starting off from a heterogeneous set of phenomena, internationalisation does not merely mean varying border-crossing activities on the rise anymore, but rather substantial changes: first, from a predominantly 'vertical' pattern of cooperation and mobility towards the dominance of international relationships on equal terms; second, from casuistic action towards systematic policies of internationalisation; third, from disconnection of specific international activities on the one hand and on the other internationalisation of the core activities towards an integrated internationalisation of higher education. Though higher education policy remains predominantly shaped on a national level and tends to underscore specific traditions and conditions of individual countries, the responsibility of individual institutions of higher education in Europe for their own future grows in the process internationalisation which is accompanied, among others, by growing pressure for diversity and increasing popularity of managerialism as well as by a policy of the European Commission which seems to favour de-nationalisation of higher education.
