Two studies were conducted wherein an interactive, multimedia-based instructional system was piloted with preservice elementary school teachers. Mathematics methods classes experienced conventional instruction with a new interactive technological-instructional system as supplemental course material. An analysis of interview data indicated that students were more likely to incorporate the knowledge they acquired from the system into their teaching repertoire. Many students thought that this mode of presentation enhanced their learning of mathematics teaching methods and their teaching in other fields.This project was supported, in part, by a grant from the National Science Foundation (Award # TPE-8950317) and International Business Machines.  相似文献

The article presents the results of benefit-cost analysis for an experimental and prototype elementary education program in Indonesia which is designed to solve a serious dropout problem. The program will use nonformal and self-paced methods to return 10, 000 children to elementary school in order to complete grades four through six.Alternative benefit-cost ratios are calculated using differing assumptions regarding probable lifetime earnings-enhancement and alternative discount rates. The calculations consider only private benefits and opportunity costs in addition to the project budget; however, several of the problems and unresolved questions that arose in the process of making the evaluation in a less developed country are discussed.  相似文献

Research was undertaken to evaluate whether and to what extent the health‐related domains, including sexuality education, specified by the Development of Health Awareness in Adolescent Project Science Committee overlapped with the goals and objectives of the 2002/03 elementary school curricula (grades one to eight; ages 7–14 years) in Turkey. For this aim, the goals and objectives of the courses in the curricula that include health‐related and sexuality‐related subjects were compared by the seven domains with a total of 230 subcategories. The analysis demonstrated that 147 of the 230 subcategories matched the goals and objectives of the curricula with the highest frequencies in the domains of physical development, protection from detrimental‐external factors and healthy living habits. However, the domain of healthy beginning to life was found to have the lowest frequency. Moreover, subcategories such as pregnancy–birth, unintended pregnancy, sexual identity, changes in adolescence, sexual violence and abuse, birth control and sexual discrimination were not covered at all. These results are discussed in relation to the missing points that might have implications for policy and practice in health and sexuality education in Turkey.  相似文献

Some years ago, Hatano differentiated between routine and adaptive expertise and made a strong plea for the development and implementation of learning environments that aim at the latter type of expertise and not just the former. In this contribution we reflect on one aspect of adaptivity, namely the adaptive use of solution strategies in elementary school arithmetic. In the first part of this article we give some conceptual and methodological reflections on the adaptivity issue. More specifically, we critically review definitions and operationalisations of strategy adaptivity that only take into account task and subject characteristics and we argue for a concept and an approach that also involve the sociocultural context. The second part comprises some educational considerations with respect to the questions why, when, for whom, and how to strive for adaptive expertise in elementary mathematics education.  相似文献
