The first national meeting of the Public Library Association, a division of ALA, was held at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland, from March 23-26, 1983. The theme, "Serving People: The Public Library Today and Tornorrow," featured keynote addresses by Maryland Senator Paul Sarbanes and noted author Isaac Asimov. The conference began with theme tours of Maryland libraries specializing in such programs as service to the disabled, literacy services, merchandising, and automated circulation. Conference programs included sessions on intellectual freedom strategy, cablelvideo, the impact of demography and technology, interlibrary loan, and other topics of special interest to public librarians. The following paper is a compilation of the notes and impressions of six professionals who attended the conference. 相似文献

Health library and information workers no longer find themselves restricted to presenting at purely local or national health‐related library events, a diversity evidenced by the two conferences supported by CILIP's Health Libraries Group this month, June 2019. The Health Libraries Group is an official sponsor of #EBLIP10, the 10th international Evidence Based Library and Information Practice conference, which encourages us to think about the evidence we collect and use to inform practice. The Health Libraries Group also strengthens its links with EAHIL: The European Association of Health Information and Libraries by aligning the content of this year's Virtual Issue of the Health Information and Libraries Journal with EAHIL 2019s themes of evidence‐based practice, impact & assessment, and technology uptake, available at: https://bit.ly/2 PAZw2X. 相似文献

ABSTRACT In this presentation, T. Scott Plutchak places modern librarianship in a historical context to show that today's librarians are experiencing a revolution in scholarly communication that is analogous to the advent of Gutenberg's printing press. Scholarly communication is going through a transitional period, and it is too early to tell what a true digital culture will look like. Although librarians like to “get things right,” they are now faced with situations for which there are no established models. Plutchak's presentation discussed the tremendous opportunities for librarians to experiment with ways to use their unique skills in information organization to make important contributions in the digital age. 相似文献
