Consumer Health Informatics--integrating patients,providers, and professionals online

Consumer Health Informatics (CHI) means different things to patients, health professionals, and health care systems. A broader perspective on this new and rapidly developing field will enable us to understand and better apply its advances. This article provides an overview of CHI discussing its evolution and driving forces, along with advanced applications such as Personal Health Records, Internet transmission of personal health data, clinical e-mail, online pharmacies, and shared decision-making tools. Consumer Health Informatics will become integrated with medical care, electronic medical records, and patient education to impact the whole process and business of health care.

国内外消费者健康信息学研究进展

[目的/意义] 旨在梳理医学信息学的分支——消费者健康信息学（CHI）领域的研究文献和研究进展,发现该领域的研究弱点与空白点。[方法/过程] 采用文本编码的方式,从CHI的范畴界定、健康信息生命周期中的典型阶段考察文献中的研究问题、变量关系等。[结果/结论] 从研究对象涉及到的技术、消费者、使命、目标、任务、学科属性等角度分别综述其界定,并提炼出一个较有解释力的内涵;依据文章界定的CHI内涵,依次梳理消费者健康信息需求、搜寻、获取、接受、利用和评价的具体表现和影响因素等。     

Health Literacy's Influence on Consumer Libraries

Health literacy has been redefined in recent years to move beyond an individual’s own communication skills to include the skills of persons working within health care organizations, including librarians. Provision of consumer health services and resources, while a long-standing practice in hospital libraries, has also been redefined. As definitions of health literacy have evolved, so too have hospital librarian services as they embrace their role within health literacy. Many hospital medical and consumer health librarians have developed programs, services, and collaborations to further health literacy awareness, education, and initiatives for consumers, health care professionals, and their parent organizations.     

Consumer Health Materials for Lesbians,Gay Men,Bisexual and Transgendered People

Abstract

This article identifies the major health challenges of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (L/G/B/T) communities, pointing out that each is faced with stigma and discrimination in the search for healthcare. Members of these communities are thus more likely to seek out and consult services offered by public libraries which identify and disseminate consumer health and self-care information appropriate to their needs. The article concludes with a bibliography of current sources of information-both print and electronic-that will interest the L/G/B/T health consumer.     

Consumer Health Reference Interview: Ideas for Public Librarians

This two-stage study seeks to help public librarians become better prepared, and more confident and competent, when answering medical/health questions. At the first stage, eleven barriers that public librarians often encounter in the consumer health reference interview were identified through a comprehensive literature review, and at the second stage, input from professional consumer health librarians on how to overcome the barriers was gathered via a qualitative survey. Findings of the study provide concrete and practical strategies that will help public librarians more successfully conduct the reference interview to assist library users in their health information-seeking journey.     

The Consumer Health Information Library in the Hospital Setting

Consumer health information has become an accepted and fast-growing facet of the consumer movement. The questions now center on the feasibility of providing such information and the best way of offering this service in the hospital setting. This paper examines one hospital-based lay health library and discusses staffing, services, administration, physical facilities, accessibility, and librarian liability.     

国外消费者健康信息学研究综述

[目的/意义]分析消费者健康信息学从诞生至今20多年的发展状况,并在文献评述基础上提出建议,为国内消费者健康信息学研究提供参考。[方法/过程]对近年来国外有关消费者健康信息学文献进行梳理,主要对来自Web of Science、Science Direct、Scopus、PubMed 4个数据库中相关主题的研究性论文、综述性论文及会议论文进行调研和分析。[结果/结论]虽然有关消费者健康信息学的研究成果硕果累累,但是目前对消费者健康信息学的定义尚未统一。未来对消费者健康信息学定义需要达成共识,同时数字健康鸿沟也是该领域研究的重点。
