美国校园微冒犯现象：内涵、根源及启示

美国微冒犯的概念过去特指美国白人对美国黑人的一种很微妙的种族歧视,现在指的是那些源于定型化的偏见所产生的一切对边缘群体或非常态、非特权群体的带有轻视意味的言行、态度,姿势或倾向。美国校园微冒犯表现形式多样而微妙,对目标对象可能造成身心消极影响,其应对策略中的对话和去标签化,可以作为约束我国校园微冒犯的两种应对思路。     

论美国国会对中美关系的影响

在三权分立的美国,国会的主要功能是立法,但冷战后国会插手政府外交政策的情况越来越多,近十年来,中美关系曲折的历程充分反映了这一点.国会与政府对外交主导权的争夺表面上给人留下府会对立、分裂的印象,实际上却有利于美国外交利益的更好实现,二者并没有根本的利害冲突.

美苏两国在20世纪的崛起、强大和1991年苏联的解体与美国全球霸权主义的开始衰落,是世界现代史上影响深远的事件。探讨两国兴衰成败的经验教训并从中获得启示具有重要意义。本文运用历史比较方法,对两国发展的历程作某种梳理,力求从中获得一些带规律性的认识。

对20世纪美国社会的稳定和发展而言，美国现代公益基金会扮演着重要角色。本文从美国现代基金会发挥的社会功能出发，通过对基全会的行业组织和主管部门的考察．探讨现代基金会与美国政府的关系，从而呈现出美国政府如何对基金会进行有效的管理。通过这三方面的考察。揭示了美国政府的政策和治理方式对美国现代基金会的发展的巨大影响，对于一些发展中国家日益发展的慈善事业的规范和管理具有理论价值争现实意义。     

美国、英国、澳大利亚的高等教育国际化

本文研究美国、英国和澳大利亚的高等教育国际化。通过采用一个共同的分析框架,分析这三个发达国家高等教育系统的国际化背景、国际化战略、政府和专业机构的国际化角色以及国际化的评估,并对个别研究型大学进行个案研究,以说明国际化是如何在大学内落实的。结果说明高等教育学国际化是受大学外部的全球化、科技和竞争等因素推动以及大学内部的文化和组织等因素影响。这三个国家的高等教育国际化在历史背景、广泛战略和评估方面有相同的经验,但在地区政治、传统和政府的角色方面有明显的不同。     

Distance Learning: The U.S. Version

Distance learning in higher education has developed differently in the United States from the way it developed many other countries. Driven by the developments in technology and fueled by partnerships with industry, distance education in the U.S. is charting unmapped waters. For over a century, universities have relied on students coming to them. Now they find that they must go to the students. This article examines some of the history, technology, research, and trends in distance education and raises key questions. What part does the profit motive play in the corporatization of education? How can traditional universities adjust to meet the needs of a changing population, and who will be the gatekeepers? The opportunity is here to improve on existing educational institutions and add flexibility to the monolithic institutions of traditional universities. Distance educators will need to be vigilant to ensure that the strengths of sound pedagogy are not lost in the race to embrace new technologies.     

Lords,squires, and yeomen: Collegiate middle-managers in the U.S.

This essay examines (a) the causes of growth, elaboration and differentiation in middle-level collegiate administration; (b) the roles and status of mid-level administrators; and (c) the functions of national occupational associations in the professional lives of these campus officials. It is based on data gathered in an extensive search and analysis of the literature, a survey research questionnaire, and structured interviews with more than two hundred administrators, faculty, and search committee chairpersons at twenty colleges and universities of different sizes and types.The metaphor lords, squires, and yeomen represents a conceptual model for understanding the roles and prospects of mid-level collegiate administrators: they are in the center of a status hierarchy that permits only limited mobility. The effects of organizational size and complexity on middle-management functions, the way these functions are organized, and their specialized nature have much to do with the value dilemma of service for others versus control of activities which confronts collegiate administrators in both U.S. and European institutions.This research was supported by the Exxon Education Foundation in 1977.

Foreign Aid to Education: Recent U.S. Initiatives-Background,Risks, and Prospects

The Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) is a commitment of the United States to raise its grant aid by a factor of 50% over the next 3 years and will result in a $5 billion annual increase over current foreign aid levels. Many other countries and multinational development assistance agencies will be asked to help cofinance this new account, and their participation would augment this original proposal from the United States. The MCA offers the opportunity for a quantum change in the prospects for peace, stability, and the alleviation of poverty. However, will it work? This article suggests that the MCA will work only if it addresses several important dilemmas in the nature of foreign aid conditionality and the terms of reference of foreign aid organizations.

通过介绍美国、澳大利亚和英国现代专业博士教育模式,揭示三个国家在专业博士教育模式方面的特色,提出这三个国家专业博士教育模式对我国开展专业博士教育的启示。     

Football,Recruitment, and Retention at U.S. Christian Colleges

An increasing number of Christian colleges are adding football programs as a way to boost enrollment among men and ethnic minorities. No systematic study has attempted to measure these outcomes. We tested the relationship of football to percent male, percent non-White, and first-year retention at 125 U.S. colleges and universities affiliated with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU). Our findings revealed that football at Christian colleges is associated with more men on campus, but not with more ethnic diversity. In addition, Christian colleges with football retained fewer students from first-year to second-year than did Christian colleges without football. We discuss the implications of our findings and offer suggestions for further research.
