It's only natural to look forward to something better. We do it all our lives. Things may never really improve, but at least we always hope they will. It is one of life's great ironies that the longer we live, the less there is to look forward to. Retirement may bring with it the fulfillment of a lifetime's dreams. At last there will be time to do all the things we never had time for.     

An experimental analysis on the turnover time of railway freight transportation based on the impact strength of factors

Based on the factors impact strength model (FISM), we studied on calculation formulas of influence strength and key elements of FISM, and analyzed the turnover time of railway freight transportation of China. The results show that wagon transfer time is the most critical factor among the three subjective factors of wagons turnover time. The FISM based analysis of wagon transfer time show that the wagon turnover time is significantly correlated with transit time with resorting. Among the seven factors of detention time of transit time with resorting, the time of waiting to departing, converging, and waiting to break-up are key factors, while the time of make-up, break-up, arrival and departure are general factors. We carried out one empirical research based on the data of Baoji East Railway Station in 2015. The results of empirical research and FISM are consistent completely

Model for cascading failures in congested Internet

Cascading failures often occur in congested networks such as the Internet. A cascading failure can be described as a three-phase process： generation, diffusion, and dissipation of the congestion. In this account, we present a function that represents the extent of congestion on a given node. This approach is different from existing fimctions based on betweenness centrality. By introducing the concept of ＇delay time＇, we designate an intergradation between permanent removal and nonremoval. We also construct an evaluation fimction of network efficiency, based on congestion, which measures the damage caused by cascading failures. Finally, we investigate the effects of network structure and size, delay time, processing ability and packet generation speed on congestion propagation. Also, we uncover the relationship between the cascade dynamics and some properties of the network such as structure and size.

Biclustering of ARMA time series

Biclustering is a method of grouping objects and attributes simultaneously in order to find multiple hidden patterns.When dealing with a long time series,there is a low possibility of finding meaningful clusters of whole time sequence.However,we may find more significant clusters containing partial time sequence by applying a biclustering method.This paper proposed a new biclustering algorithm for time series data following an autoregressive moving average （ARMA） model.We assumed the plaid model but modified the algorithm to incorporate the sequential nature of time series data.The maximum likelihood estimation （MLE） method was used to estimate coefficients of ARMA in each bicluster.We applied the proposed method to several synthetic data which were generated from different ARMA orders.Results from the experiments showed that the proposed method compares favorably with other biclustering methods for time series data.     

Approaching lean product development using system dynamics：investigating front-load effects

Competing with successful products has become perplexing with several uncertainties and transmutes from time to time as customers＇ expectations are dynamic.That is why manufacturing firms exhaustively strive to look for a better competitive frontier using wellestablished and innovative product development（PD）processes.In this paper,we would like to answer three research questions：（i）What would be the effects of frontloading in PD？（ii）Can we improve our PD process endlessly？（iii）When is the critical time that the firm should take remedial action for improvements？As a contribution to the vast numbers of improvement methods in new product development（NPD）,this paper investigates the effects of front-loading using set-based concurrent engineering（SBCE）on cost and lead time.Models are developed and treated using a system dynamics（SD）approach.We assign a hypothetical upfront investment for SBCE and compare its effects on total cost and lead time of the development process.From the research,it is found that the total cost of PD is reduced almost by half-although the front loading is higher in order to encompass multiple design alternatives.The total product lead time is reduced by almost 20%.The model reveals the critical time for improvement of the PD process.We use SD tool（e.g.,STELLA）for simulation and visualization of the complex PD model,using SBCE as one of several strategies to frontload activities in the NPD process.
