从Open DOAR（开放存取知识库名录）中按地区分别选取若干知识库,利用评估工具测试了网站的可达性、链接时间、链接效果、压力测试4个指标,分析了国内机构知识库可用性及其存在的主要问题,并提出了提高其可用性的建议。     

国外IR理论研究与实践进展

分析国外学者在机构知识概念、特点与功能、服务模式以及技术探讨与图书馆员在IR管理中角色定位等方面的研究,综述IR建设面临的挑战,并介绍国外IR的发展概况,最后提出未来IR理论研究与实践中亟需解决的重点问题.     

分布式机构库的质量控制

介绍国内外机构库质量控制的研究现状,指出目前国内相关研究才刚起步;通过分析分布式机构库质量控制的特点,提出应从元数据质量控制、内容质量控制以及数据访问质量控制三个层面建立合理的质量评价指标,并且采取相应的质量控制措施,从而实现对分布式机构库建设的质量控制。

开放存取及机构知识库的发展,给高校图书馆的发展带来了机遇,也使高校图书馆面临着前所未有的挑战。文章通过对世界发达国家机构知识库建设的介绍,阐述了我国高校图书馆建设机构知识库的必要性和可行性,并提出了"积极宣传和推广机构知识库"等数条具体措施。     

Institutional repositories and scholarly publishing

The institutional repository (IR), an open Web‐based archive of scholarly material produced by the members of a defined institution, has come to the fore following the launch of DSpace at MIT at the end of 2002. Here we review recent developments in IRs and explore the impact their expansion may have on scholarly publishing.     

Provenance and credibility in scientific data repositories

Despite a long history of rich theoretical work on provenance, empirical research regarding users?? interactions with and judgments based upon provenance information in archives with scientific data is extremely limited. This article focuses on the relationship between provenance and credibility (i.e., trustworthiness and expertise) for scientists. Toward this end, the authors conducted semi-structured interviews with seventeen proteomics researchers who interact with data from ProteomeCommons.org, a large online repository. To analyze the resulting interview data, the authors apply Brian Hilligoss and Soo Young Rieh??s empirically tested theoretical framework for user credibility assessment. Findings from this study suggest that together with other information provided in ProteomeCommons.org and subjects?? own experiences and prior knowledge, provenance allows users to determine the credibility of datasets. Implications of this study stress the importance of the archival perspective of provenance and archival bond for aiding scientists in their credibility assessments of data housed in scientific data repositories.

ABSTRACT

Documentation is the written record of activities, policies, and procedures within a certain organization or group. Libraries, especially technical services units, need to be more vigilant about documenting the important activities of their departments for current and future use. After looking at past library literature, this article highlights ways to incorporate documentation into acquisitions, serials, and cataloging units while emphasizing the importance of these activities and making sure all staff members are involved.
