Cheating The income-tax deadline approaches and some taxpayers’thoughts turn to it. Test time approaches and some students turn to it. “You want something you can’t get by behaving within the rules, and when you want it badly enough, you’ll do it regardless of any guilt or deep regret, and you’re willing to run the risk of being caught.”That’s how Ladd Wheeler, psychology professor at the Univer-sity of Rochester in New York, defines cheat- ing. Peculiar Order
A visitor at a seaside hotel called over the head waiter at breakfast one morning and said: "I want two boiled eggs, one of them so undercooked it's runny, and the other so overcooked it's tough and hard to eat. Also grilled bacon that has been left on the plate to get cold; burnt toast that crumbles away as soon as you touch it With a knife; butter straight from the deep freeze so that it's impossible to spread; and a pot of very weak coffee, lukewarm."  相似文献

You are less likely to be held back by negative ideas that might limit your performance.  相似文献

I never wanted to be anything but a broadcaster, a talker. And for 40 years, I've been doing just that. To me, the ability to talk well is one of the great pleasures in life and can bring with it some of life's greatest rewards, I'm not saying it's always easy. The vast majority of people would rather jump out of an airplane without a parachute than sit next to someone they've never met at a dinner party. But the more you work at it, the easier it will be. To get you started, here are my five basic ingredients for learning how to talk to anyone, anytime, anywhere.  相似文献

When was the last time you did a bit of lobbying? We all lobby at some point in our lives: persuading a work subordinate to do something, convincing a friend to go along with an idea of yours, talking a partner into buying something... Lobbying is all about trying to get people to do the things that you want them to do through the careful construction of logical arguments. But when lobbying involves big business it's seen as controversial.  相似文献

When it conies right down to it, employers considering candidates for a job really only want to know two things: What do you offer in the way of education, experience and skills? What sort of job are you looking for? Do your career goals match the job that's available? One of the best ways to answer these questions is with an objective statement at the beginning of your resume. Simply put, an objective concisely tells prospective employers what you want in a job and what you can bring to an organization. You may have heard that some employers don't want to see an objective on your resume. It's true. But for every hiring manager who says something like this:  相似文献

Equivalence can be said to be the central issue in translation although its different approaches have caused heated controversy. However,as early as the 1970s,the Skopostheorie emerged in Germany, and it seemed to challenge the equivalence theories.Although Nida and some linguistics raised some negative problems of this theory,it still rapidly became famous around the world,This article will mainly compare and analyse Skopostheorie and Baker’s translation equivalence approach.First,it will give a simple overview of these two approaches.Second,it will discuss the relevant strengths and weaknesses of these two approaches in relation to their usage. Finally,it will discuss combining these two approaches in the same translation.  相似文献

Criticism and Transcendence: Master-slave Dialectic from a Historical Materialism View by LI Zhen-yuan, CHENG He-xiang p. 5
It is purely a misinterpretation that some scholars unscramble ' masters turned into slaves, and slaves turned into masters' from the master-slave dialectic. Based on the historical materialism, analyzing the master-slave dia- lectic from the perceptual activity and historical perspective will break the philosophy myth of master-slave relations inversion. According to Hegel's formulation, the slaves did not really take the risk of losing their lives to achieve their freedom, but threw themselves into the lap of stoicism, skepticism and Christianity, and so did not ' turn into masters'. As one of the most profound and sacred thoughts of young Hegel, the topics of Desire, Recognition, Death and Labor in the "master-slave dialectic" all become important thought resources for the future generations.  相似文献
