A major concern in distance education is how to overcome the problems associated with laboratory components of courses. Assessment can be conducted in various ways in school, and has also different purposes. In this paper the focus is on pupil assessment during project work. The article touches on the aim of assessment that has ranking and certificating purposes, but its main focus is on assessment as a learning device. Dialogues from the classroom are used as illustrations of authentic assessment that takes place during the work processes. These dialogues show that assessment is conducted by the teacher, by the pupils of each other and the pupils of themselves. The paper ends with a discussion bringing the assessment discussion further by focusing on criteria and goals as important ingredients in the assessment processes.  相似文献

Abstract

How faculty in higher education plan instruction is an area about which little is known. The purpose of this study was to describe instructional planning by faculty teaching adult learners via interactive telecommunications technology and to identify their principal concerns when designing distance instruction. Qualitative methods were used to collect and analyze data on planning by eleven full‐time faculty members teaching on an audio‐graphic distance network. Their distance instruction planning process was characterized by three features: term rather than day‐to‐day planning, a primary emphasis on content rather than process, and reliance on the syllabus as the focal point of planning.  相似文献

The central aims of Masters teaching in Education are considered against the background of controversy about the viability of teaching the whole of such courses by distance teaching methods. The components of course design in Masters teaching are then examined via distance teaching experience in universities in Australia and the U.K. Design requirements of the main vehicle for Masters teaching, the advanced project, are then considered, leading to a specification of the main types of support facilities: tutor support, library resources, and residential schools. Assessment in the form of a large project and field- and laboratory work was shown to be successful when applied to a course in snow engineering for university students with various backgrounds. The course was interdisciplinary, with teachers representing three different engineering disciplines. The project work was assessed by a report, a short oral presentation and an optional presentation such as a home page, a poster or a physical model. The students experienced that they had learned more with this assessment strategy than from courses with a final written exam. Peer evaluation of the relative contributions to the project work was applied and was appreciated by the students. The experiences of practical engineering tasks during the project work were also appreciated.  相似文献

Distance education technology can be used to increase the teaching of science in schools. However, the use of the technology must be carefully monitored. This paper describes the general use of 2-way video/2-way audio technology to link three remote sites and a studio. To evaluate the instructiors' and participants' use of this technology, video recordings ofall 11 (2-hour) broadcasts were reviewed. In general, the instructors were able to conduct a semester long hands-on science course, however, there were many science teaching techniques that had to be altered for this technology. When this technology is used for hands-on science, the hardware itself must be improved so that continuous interaction can take place between the studio and all remote sites. Science topics and activities may prove to be one of thebest fields to present with the technology, because of the practical lab based nature of science. Hands-on science activities seem to lessen the feeling of distance between remote sites and the studio.  相似文献

作为从事单片机教学多年的教师,本人尝试过多种教学方法,我认为还是"项目教学法"效果比较好。"项目教学法"以任务为驱动,打破原有的知识界限,将各部分理论知识分解成一个个知识点,在各个项目中抽取不同的知识点加以组合,完成第一个项目就能搞清楚单片机的开发过程,完成第二、三个项目,就能模仿性地编出自已的程序。当所有项目都完成后,知识点也就全学完了。  相似文献
