Since the early 20th century, Chinese ELT teachers and researchers have been seeking the best method for ELT. Different methods have been introduced, tried out and found unsatisfactory. In teaching practice, many have come to favor that although no single ELT method can meet all teaching and learning needs, many ELT methods have valuable insights into ELT that should be drawn on. However, teachers need a set of principles to adapt their teaching procedure to the specific circumstances. This paper, through a case teaching plan, presents how to apply varies teaching methods to design teaching plan under the guide of teaching principles.  相似文献

In the 1970s, the EFL profession generally began abandoning grammar-based methodologies in favor of approacheswhich focused on communication as the goal of language learning. Affected by this trend, the process approach to writing (asopposed to writing as a product) was introduced. Yet EFL. teachers themselves are faced with some obstacles when applying thetheory. This article analyzes some factors that hinder students from focusing on content when writing, and suggests in conclusionthat teachers should not be too impatient; rather, they should take students' level into consideration and allow students to have atransitional stage to get themselves prepared.  相似文献

The rapid development of ICT (information technology and communication) in the last two decades has changed society substantially as a whole. For higher education institutions, the external environment pressure to incorporate ICT in their educational and administrative processes has forced them to invest in resources for infrastructure and training. In addition, teachers have found that they can use technology in their teaching, but lack of full knowledge of how to use it effectively from a pedagogical point of view. The incorporation of new education modalities depends largely on the contextual variables prevailing in the institution and teachers. In UABC (Autonomous University of Baja California), the early days of online education go hack to 1996, so the study period was from 1996 to 2009. An online survey was designed to fmd out the teachers' backgrounds and involvement in online education, their experience as online teachers, and the tools and practices used. Of 97 teachers who were identified with some experience in online teaching, 70% responded to the Survey (68). It was found that the highest percentage (33%) of teachers who responded the survey started teaching online between 2003 and 2006. 56% of teachers have been teaching between one and five online courses. On the other hand, most teachers recognized that 30%-79% of the content of their courses were online based. The most popular learning management system used is moodle followed by blackboard in teachers' preference. In general, teachers expressed using the three main communication tools of online education: forums, chat and e-mail, favoring the use of e-mail. The communication slrategies teachers often use in their courses promoted student-student and student-teacher interaction. In their evaluation strategies, most said that they used self-assessment, rubrics and to a lesser extent online exams and co-evaluation. This paper is based on three observations and independent thinking of the classroom teaching of the author’s colleagues.It attempts to examine how macro and micro contexts affect teaching and learning in the classroom.The author focuses the discussion on three aspects:(i)the present EFL contextual setting in China;(ii)the influence of the evaluation system on both teachers and students;(iii)his own beliefs as a teacher.Finally,he comes to the implications that teachers should often reflect on their teaching by means of observing other teachers’teachings;In order to bring more effective teaching and learning to the class,Teachers should change their class from a teacher-centered one to a students-centered one.  相似文献

The role of textbooks,as one important channel between teachers and students,has always aroused scholars’interests,but what indeed are the roles of textbook for students and teachers? This paper aims to evaluate a listening textbook that is used by English major university students in China.Three research questions are proposed which are:(1) What are the students’per ceptions about the listening textbook? (2) What are the teachers’opinions about the listening textbook? (3) To what extent do students and teachers perceptions match? In order to answer these three research questions,questionnaires were designed for both students and teachers to obtain the data.This study is supported both qualitatively and quantitatively.The data of this research suggested that both students and teachers have found advantages of this listening textbook,which they may find helpful for their learning and teaching,but they are also not satisfied with some aspects of the textbook,which they think need further improvement.The students’and teachers’opinions to some extent have reached some agreement about the textbook,but students may not be so enthusiastic about the textbook,while the teachers may show much reliance on the text book.This study has its limitations,but it also provides some insights for teachers and textbook writers.  相似文献

The paper attempts to explore the current situation of English learners’ speaking achievements and their speaking anxiety in Chinese higher education. Through reviewing the previous researches, it is possible to find out that: 1) there is a negative relationship between speaking anxiety and speaking performance; 2) most teachers have noticed the negative impact of speaking anxiety on their students, yet they have not adopted efficient strategies to solve the problem; 3) both teachers and students rely more on academic strategies than cognitive or affective strategies. This research project focuses on the question: Which effects do teachers' attitudes have on students' academic self-concept and students' competences? The study is informed by the theoretical perspective that competences and individual skills can be improved especially when students and teachers are confident about the possibility of change of these variables and when teachers make this explicit as a central theme. In our intervention study, we investigate whether a change in the teaching and learning setting (moving from a focus on deficits to a focus on strengths) is able to enhance students' academic self-concept and students' competences, even across domains.  相似文献

As the masterpiece of Wharton,The Age of Innocence mainly concentrates on women’s fates in the strict restraint of the New York society.In the novel,Wharton portrays two contrasting female characters—May Welland and Ellen Olenska,who are regarded as the most progressive ones among the female figures she has ever created.Scholars,both domestic and abroad,have studied this novel from a raft of perspectives.Most of them have explored the feminist ideas,the conventions of upper-class society,and the protagonist Newland’s perplexity which are embodied in the novel.However,this paper aims to examine the divergences between two female figures—May and Ellen.The exploration of their divergences makes it clear that May is an ideal woman of the 19th century New York while Ellen is an ideal woman of modern society.  相似文献

The Disabilities Education Act was introduced in June, 1997 in the Turkish Education System. The Act states that schools have a duty to educate children with disabilities in general education classrooms. All children with disabilities should be educated with non-disabled children at their own age and have access to the general education curriculum. The philosophy of inclusive education aims at helping all children learn in regular classrooms. Children learn at their own pace and style within a nurturing learning environment because schools are important places for children to develop friendships and learn social skills. Children with and without disabilities learn together and from each other in inclusive classes. On the other hand, when children attend classes that reflect the similarities and differences of people in the real world, they learn to appreciate diversity. The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions of teachers about implementation of inclusive education in elementary schools. In order to collect data for this study, a questionnaire which consisted of eight open-ended questions was developed and administered to 66 elementary school teachers. The teachers worked at primary schools and taught 1-5 grades. They were asked to write their opinions and experiences about the implementation of inclusive education in the elementary schools. Primary school teachers generally have a positive attitude about inclusive education and its philosophical and psychological foundation. However, they express that they encounter some difficulties in implementing inclusive classrooms. A crowded classroom is a main obstacle to obtain desired objectives in educational activities. The levels of students' disability are related to effectiveness of classroom management. The effectiveness of inclusive education depends on not only the teachers' quality but also the school administrators'. Some superintendents assess the effectiveness of teachers in inclusive and regular classrooms in the same way.  相似文献

In EFL teaching environment, classroom is the main place where language acquisition occurs. In the classroom, teacher question is viewed as an important constituent of teacher talk. Teacher questions also give impetus to classroom interaction. The quantity and quality of teacher questions have a great influence on learners. However, in China, few aspects of the research on teacher questions have been discussed in some relevant articles. This paper attempts to analyze the characteristics of teacher questions from two aspects: display questions and referential questions. Moreover, it explores the relationship between teacher question and student output. In recent years,with the renewal of English textbooks of all levels,the traditional grammar-translation method is out-of-date in the EFL class.In order to meet the challenges of our age,more and more teachers have cast their eyes on the communicative use of language,which compels them to create opportunities for genuine interaction in the classroom.Interaction,according to Brown(1980,p.159),is "the collaborative exchange of thoughts,feelings,or ideas between two or more people resulting in a reciprocal effect on each other." As the core of communication,interaction is a very important word for current language teachers,who are responsible for providing the stimuli for continued interaction in the era of communicative language teaching.The significance of interaction in EFL class mainly lies in its contribution to the active teaching of grammar,the initiating of students’ intrinsic motivation and the improving of their communicative competence(c.c.).In this article,I will elaborate on why and how I initiate interaction by providing a 100-minute lesson plan in an attempt to connect theory with practice.  相似文献
