CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Biotcchnology

CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Biotechnology （CoEBio） is one of the 22 CAS-TWAS Centres of Excellence （CoE）, which are supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS） and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World （TWAS） -- for the advancement of science in developing countries.     

CAS, TWAS Join Hands in Developing Centers of Excellence to Promote Science in the Developing World

On June 28 and July 1, Dr. Peter McGrath, Programme IOfficer of TWAS （The World Academy of Sciences -- for the advancement of science in developingworld）, paid visits to four CAS-TWAS Centers of Excellence （CoEs） in Beijing, including the CoE for Green Technology, the CoE on Space Technology for Disaster Mitigation, the CoE for Water and Environment and the CoE for Biotechnology, together with staff from the CAS Bureau of International Cooperation.

Chinese TWAS Members meet in Beijing

The Fifth Meeting of Chinese Members of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) was held in Beijing on April 16. Chaired by CAS Vice President and TWAS Member ZHANG Yaping, the meeting was attended by nearly 60 people from across the country.

Under the auspices of the Academic Divisions of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS） and the Chinese Academy of Engineering （CAE） and Science Times, a selection of the 10 most significant S＆T developments in China in 2007 was recently made in Beijing. New Species of Blue Mushroom Found in Southwest China

正A new species of blue Entoloma mushroom was recently discovered by a group of researchers led by XU Jianchu from the Kunming Institute of Botany(KIB),Chinese Academy of Sciences and the World Agroforestry Centre(ICRAF).The new species was found in Mengsong village,Damenglong Township,Jinghong County in China’s southwestern Yunnan Province,and has been named Entoloma mengsongense.

International Scientists Programs:A New Gateway to Cooperation

The Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS） launched in 2009 a major effort to promote international cooperation and scientific innovation： the Visiting Professorship Program for Senior International Scientists and the Fellowship Program for Young International Scientists. A New Catalyst for Durene Conversion

Scientists from the Institute of Coal Chemistry （ICC）, Chinese Academy of Sciences has recently developed a new catalyst and related techniques for the conversion of durene （1,2,4,5-tetramethylbenzene）. The catalyst, which has been running for more than 2,000 hours, showed high stability with a durene conversion rate of 100%.
