Students with mild disabilities have a difficult time recording notes from lectures. Accurate note taking is important because it helps students understand the content from lectures and notes serve as a document for later review. In this article, the author describes what teachers can do before, during, and after the lecture to help students become better note takers.

Memorzing Vocabulary Is the Culprit for Your Bad English! 当单词离开语言环境,首先,记不住;其次,记住了也不会用;再次,用了也很可能错!我见过不少学生背诵access这个词儿,使了吃奶的劲儿记住了,可是我一让他用一用,该生往往搜肠刮肚也憋不出一个句子.如果被逼急了,保证造出一个老外闻所未闻的句子来. 在母语中没干过的事儿,英语中干了,就一定是错的(200％是错的)!我们汉语就不喜欢单个的词儿,比如眼睛,明明说个"眼"就行了,我们非要凑成词"眼睛".同理,鼻子、嘴巴、老师、聪明都是不要单个的字儿而要成双成组的标志.

Stop Being So Melodramatic! Or,the Problem with Sexual Harassment Policies

In this article, Caitlin Howlett offers a critical framework for understanding the limits of prohibitive and individually oriented sexual harassment policies in academia through a discussion of melodrama. Howlett draws on the work of Linda Williams, Emma Goldman, and Carole Vance in arguing that such sexual harassment policies participate in melodrama and thus fail to address the structural or institutional conditions that allow for sexual harassment. She then turns to the work of Sara Ahmed to examine what is at stake in this failure, before concluding that this understanding of sexual harassment policies points to their insufficiency and inadequacy within the academy.     

Stop the E-train! A plea for the thoughtful use of language in computer-conferenced contexts

In this paper, I take the position that the recently increased ‘e-talk’ permeating our language potentially compromises our field's professionalism by ‘one-minutizing’ learning that uses computer-mediated technologies. In so doing, I discuss historical aspects of adult education, the importance of language as a naming function, the evolution of the romance of cyberspace, and the need for adult and distance educators to maintain a clear sense of their practice as distinct from the amorphous clamouring of the burgeoning e-world.     

The Challenges Never Stop! Two Decades of Reaching for the Best in Clinical Practice

The University of South Carolina Professional Development School (USC PDS) Network has been engaged in designing and redesigning school–university partnerships for more than 20 years with a focus on ensuring that school-based practice lies at the heart of candidate preparation. In 2012–2013, the USC PDS Network once again reexamined their program design to identify and build upon those elements that have proven successful. This article shares the journey and lessons learned in the evolution of the USC PDS Network, including the results of the most recent reexamination. The focus is on challenges inherent in the creation of effective school–university collaboration and insights into key components of success, including relationship building, leadership and administrative support, sense of purpose, organizational structures, and adaptability to change.     

Stop,Think, Do! Treating and Preventing Social-Behavioural Problems in School

Most teachers will come into contact with pupils who are experiencing or have experienced a loss or bereavement and they often feel ill equipped to offer the kind of support they would like to. This paper offers insights into the nature of this area and a specific approach through which children may be supported. The writer discusses some research and thinking on loss and bereavement and the implications of this. She presents two case studies of work with individual students using the creative arts. She also discusses the connections between behavioural problems, loss and the use of the arts in supporting the students.
