Talking electronic stories are now an accepted part of many infant children’s early reading experiences and research has suggested that they have benefits in terms of reading development. Linda Pagett here describes the impact on her class of children of the non-fiction equivalent of these talking stories – the simple talking topic ‘books’ produced by Sherston Software. The article draws on research conducted in Britain and Canada into representations of the Inuit in juvenile non-fiction. Through the examination of text and pictorial representations in reference books, and geographical and historical non-fiction, attention is drawn to the continuing prevalence of a wide range of stereotypes. With the help of a discussion group of Inuit and other residents of the Arctic, key issues are confronted and strengths and weaknesses of a variety of representations identified. The article concludes by recommending various approaches that would result in a more balanced image of the Inuit, and by analogy, of other indigenous people worldwide.  相似文献

The purpose of this review is to examine the utility of using journalistic accounts of adolescence to convey the complexities of adolescent development. Three non-fiction texts are considered: Wonderland by Michael Bamberger, A Tribe Apart by Patricia Hersch, and A Hope in the Unseen by Ron Suskind. The safe environment provided by these books gives prospective teachers an intellectual space to consider their future teaching and to hear the voices of their prospective students. Moreover, exploring these non-fiction texts helps prospective teachers understand today's adolescents and allows them to reflect on adolescent identity and development using a real-world setting.  相似文献

自从1966年,杜鲁门.卡波特用非虚构小说一词描绘他的小说《冷血》以来,非虚构小说就从美国流行开来。时至今日,40多年过去了,非虚构小说在中国的发展并不尽如人意,不如它在国外发展迅速,成绩骄人。但自2010年第2期开始,《人民文学》开辟"非虚构"新栏目,陆续刊发十几篇作品,在文学界引发了一场关于非虚构小说的新一轮讨论。笔者拟从非虚构小说产生的背景、非虚构小说的定义、非虚构小说与其他纪实小说的关系、非虚构与真实的关系、关于非虚构小说的理论研究、非虚构小说存在的问题及意义几个方面展开,力图为非虚构小说研究勾勒出一个较为完整的图像,理清其新时期以来的发展脉络。  相似文献

Much recent reading research in Hungary has focused on the formation of readers’attitudes and value judgements. This paper reports the results of a number of such studies, based on research with various groups, including library users, ‘killed-worker’ students, and children. A‘more books’programme has been found to be successful in developing a more discriminating approach to literature, but there is concern over national trends in reading. International studies have shown Hungarian students to be comparatively good at science but poor at reading. More books are being bought, and the proportion of women readers is increasing, but adults are spending less time on reading, and have a growing interest in non-fiction. The results of reading research in Hungary are not regarded as of purely theoretical interest. Such results are regularly used by librarians and by educational administrators.  相似文献

古籍注释已有数千年历史,前人在这方面作了大量工作,为祖国传统化的延续与发展作出极大贡献。今天的古籍整理和注释,在借鉴前人成果的基础上更当有所发展。只是我们应有一些与前人不同的观点和方法。古籍内容跟当时的历史背景与环境有着密切的联系,古籍注释必须考察当时的历史环境;古籍注释必须注意方言这个领域;古籍注释应懂得一定的科学知识;古籍注释需要考虑战略、战术等战争方面的因素;古籍注释还可以从考古发现中得到启发。  相似文献

In this article, the Ologies series of books are interrogated with a focus on whether they present new challenges for the reader or merely require previously acquired skills. The multimodal texts are unusual in that they combine non-fiction with fantasy while including tactile elements such as flaps, pull-outs and items to stroke. Ways of approaching multimodal texts are discussed with reference to the work of Kress, van Leeuwen and Moss. Finally, reference is made to Mackey’s research on multimodal platforms, applying her terms ‘playing the text’, the notion of ‘performance’ and ‘engaging in the rules of the game’. The conclusion leaves the question posed in the title open and suggests further research into actual readers will reveal more.  相似文献

图画书不是插图书,不是认字书,也不是语言教科书。图画书运用"图"和"文"两种媒介,为幼儿创造了独特的阅读世界。从生命教育的角度看,阅读图画书就是幼儿与图画书、与同伴、与老师展开对话,共同建构多元化意义,从而引领幼儿享受图画书所创造的感性世界、故事世界、幻想世界的乐趣的过程。让图画书走进幼儿的日常生活,需要以合作共享为轴心建立生态阅读圈,以经验整合为轴心建立阅读系统。如此,逐步使阅读成为幼儿的生活方式,图画书才能真正以润物细无声的方式惠泽幼儿的生命。  相似文献

There is plenty of evidence that non-fiction writing tends to have been neglected until quite recently. David Wray and Maureen Lewis discuss the importance of extending the range of children's writing and go on to introduce the use of writing frames, a strategy for scaffolding children's non-fiction writing.
