Library instruction methods most frequently focus on teaching students searching skills to navigate the maze of library databases to locate appropriate research materials. The current theory of critical information literacy instruction calls on librarians to spend more of their time in the classroom focused on understanding the social, political, and cultural construction of knowledge. In this article, the author provides a case study of the information environment in the National Women's Health Network, a women's health interest group, to help librarians facilitate nuanced discussions with students on the applicability of interest group literature inside and outside of the university classroom.  相似文献

University common reading programs provide a shared experience as students transition into college life and develop critical thinking skills. Typically in such programs, all students in an incoming class read and discuss the same book. Conversely, the University of Florida Honors Program’s (un)common reads facilitates the same skills development through multiple small sections, each focusing on a different book and each with flexible and innovative assignments and activities. Health Science Center librarians have taught in these (un)common reads since the spring semester 2010–2011. This article describes librarian involvement in this program as well as the ensuing benefits for students, librarians, and the university at large.  相似文献

[目的/意义]传统的信息素养教育强调检索技能和方法,联合国教科文组织近年来提出的"媒介信息素养"(简称MIL)概念,首次将媒介素养和信息素养融合形成复合型概念,对目前媒介融合环境下的信息素养教育有着指导性意义,明确提出和媒介素养融合的思路和策略,有利于提高信息素养教育的人文性和社会性,突破学科的局限性,探索新的跨学科结合点,实现创新和发展。[方法/过程]通过归纳分析近年来有关媒介素养和信息素养比较研究的成果,结合国内外的媒介信息素养理论和实践,尝试提出媒介素养和信息素养融合的途径。国内信息素养教育应融合媒介素养教育,实行参与式教学,革新在线课程,建立学科之间融合交流的平台,加强国际合作交流,发挥图书馆的中介作用,实现从技能型向素养型教育的转化。[结果/结论]信息素养教育需要避免单纯的技术至上的取向,将技能学习和媒介信息解读能力结合培养;与媒介素养结合是趋势所向,媒介信息素养概念的提出,拓展了信息素养的学科视野。  相似文献

As the electronic library presently exists it closely resembles an automated version of traditional library services. Binge-watching, simultaneously treated as both guilty pleasure and legitimate health concern in popular press and academic discussions, is a pervasive media behavior. Yet distinguishing it from other ways of television viewing remains elusive in communication research. The present study employs empirically supported variables to determine if different outcome expectancies are relevant to the frequency of binge-watching as contrasted with appointment viewing of television through the lens of the model of media attendance. Survey results (N = 797) of a college student and representative adult sample reveal that binge-watching is motivated in large part by the behavior already being an entrenched habit among viewers, while suspense and anticipation associated with content and motivation to use viewing to regulate one’s emotions are also significant antecedents. Conversely, more frequent appointment viewing of television viewing was driven by viewing efficacy and older age.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 回顾五届欧洲信息素养教育大会(ECIL),为国内同行了解全球信息素养教育研究现状和未来发展趋势提供参考与借鉴。[方法/过程] 通过参加ECIL的亲身感受并结合历届会议资料与相关论文分析,从会议概况、与会国家分布、会议主题和研究热点、会议交流形式以及中国学者与会情况5个方面对会议进行归纳总结,探讨全球信息素养教育的最新进展以及发展方向。[结果/结论] ECIL平台一定程度上反映了全球信息素养教育的发展趋势,即聚焦信息素养教育的实践应用、拓展信息素养教育的研究领域、延伸信息素养的相关概念、丰富信息素养教育的服务对象、创新信息素养教育的教学方法和手段。中国学者通过参加ECIL展示了中国高校和科研院所在信息素养教育领域的最新成果。最后,建议中国信息素养教育界在内容和形式两方面借鉴ECIL先进经验。  相似文献

In 2013, Bexar County launched BiblioTech, the first all digital public library in the United States. BiblioTech capitalizes on technology to reach beyond the library walls and integrate the public library in facets of everyday life previously unavailable through paper and print. At its core, BiblioTech changes the traditional understanding of how libraries operate. BiblioTech’s digital model prompts a paradigm shift and challenges the library to seek out new ways to serve otherwise disengaged patron populations.

This article discusses the launch of BiblioTech---its impetus, mission, timeline, and challenges. The evolution of BiblioTech over its first four years of operation is presented, along with various community and intergovernmental partnerships that the library has forged in fulfillment of its mission. Finally, future opportunities and plans for development are also explored.  相似文献

This article reports upon the assessment and research activities undertaken by a research group of faculty librarians at Hunter College regarding the perceptions, awareness, and usage of library services by non-librarian faculty members. Given the initial directive to measure faculty satisfaction with library services, the research group developed an ongoing action-research protocol to pursue more meaningful assessments of faculty awareness and use of library services and resources. The researchers employed both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, gathering data through informal information groups with faculty members and through an online survey measuring faculty awareness of library resources and services (Faculty Awareness of Library Services (FALS)). The findings show that while Hunter faculty value relational engagement with the library, they are more frequently aware of non-relational, self-service library resources. Further, the data suggest that tenured faculty members are aware of library services at a higher rate than tenure-track faculty. This data forms the foundation of an on-going action-research protocol to assess long-term trends, the products of which will continue to inform faculty services, outreach, and programming.  相似文献
