学习分析技术:挖掘大数据时代下教育数据的价值

当前,大数据时代已经来临,教育领域同样积累了海量数据。教育领域已经部署了众多的学习管理系统,在这些软件系统中存储着海量的学习者信息及学习过程数据。如何利用这些数据,使这些数据转变为信息、知识,并为教学决策、学习优化服务,已成为教育工作者以及学习者们所关注的内容。学习分析技术有助于发挥学习过程数据的价值,使数据成为审慎决策、过程优化的重要依据。该文介绍了国内外学习分析技术研究现状,归纳出学习分析技术的关键技术及分析模式,并以实例从不同用户视角包括管理者、辅导教师、学习者展示了学习分析技术在网络学习过程分析中的应用过程。     

Performance Analytics: The Missing Big Data Link Between Learning Analytics and Business Analytics

Big data analytics technology is changing the human capital development landscape. Global benchmarking trends reveal a gap between what executives expect from our profession and what we are currently capable of delivering. Emerging big data performance analytics technology offers our profession the capability to answer this growing executive expectation to diagnose the current and projected strengths and vulnerabilities of their workforce. It provides real‐time evidence that our performance improvement solutions optimize human and organizational performance.     

基于MOOCs大数据的学习分析和教育测量介绍

大规模在线开放课程区别于传统的远程教育和网络公开课,是基于课程与教学论以及网络和移动通讯技术发展起来的新兴在线课程形式.这类新型在线课程重在教学设计和研究,运用了丰富的教学模式,并采集网络大数据进行学习分析,以提高教学质量、完善网络课程系统.本文从大数据的定义和分析方法、学习分析和教育测量新思路、以及问题与挑战的角度对此进行介绍和探讨.本文认为对网络课程大数据的分析和研究将大大推动教育测量和学习分析的发展,促进教育质量的提升,但面临的挑战和困难也不容忽视.     

教育虚拟社区：教育大数据的必然回归

当前,基于教育大数据的实时决策、数据可视化和个性化学习服务受到人们的热捧,但很少有人从伦理规范和质量保证等视角对基于教育大数据的研究和应用进行反思。本文首先厘定了教育大数据的内涵、特征,然后分析了教育大数据与教育虚拟社区的契合以及教育大数据当前研究和应用中在技术器物、运维机制、使用主体三个层面所凸显出的问题,认为以学习者为中心、具有生态交往文化特性和一定伦理规范的教育虚拟社区可以规避教育大数据当前所面临的问题。基于上述论述,文章提出教育大数据回归教育虚拟社区将是必然,并阐述了实现教育大数据向教育虚拟社区回归的思路或方法。     

大数据学习分析的安全与隐私保护研究

随着大数据时代的来临,学习分析技术成为了教育信息化的新浪潮,其涉及的伦理道德问题尤其是学习分析过程中引发的一系列数据安全与隐私问题也成为了教育领域研究的热点。为应对隐私泄露、访问权限模糊、数据可信性受威胁等问题,文章以技术为视角,从数据收集、数据分析和数据解释等三方面构建了数据安全与隐私保护框架,并提出了相关的数据安全与隐私保护策略,以期提高利用学习分析技术进行大数据研究的成效,实现学习分析技术挖掘教育大数据潜在价值的预期目标,充分发挥大数据学习分析的研究价值。     

Towards a Prediction Model of Learning Performance: Informed by Learning Behavior Big Data Analytics

Using log data of 823 university students collected in two settings: their online learning setting and daily life setting (using campus ID cards for consumption purposes and book-borrowing in the university library), this study created indicators for online learning behavior, early-rising behavior, book-borrowing behavior and learning performance prediction. Five machine learning models were employed to analyze learning performance prediction, with the additional use of Boosting and Bagging to improve the accuracy of the prediction model. The predictability of the proposed model was also compared with that of both the Artificial Neural Network model and the Deep Neural Network model. At the same time, a classification rule set was established by combining decision tree and rule model, and a learning behavior diagnosis model combining decision tree and deep neural network was constructed. Findings showed that multi-scenario behavior performance indicators had strong predictive capabilities while the Deep Neural Network model had the highest prediction accuracy (82%) but was most time-consuming. The model based on the rule set is highly accurate, readable and operable and may be conducive to making accurate teaching interventions and resource recommendations.     

Social Justice Education for Preservice Leaders: Evaluating Transformative Learning Strategies

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explore the effects of an alternative, transformative pedagogy that may assist us in responding to the urgent call for changes in the way educational leaders are prepared and developed. Within the contextual loom of preparation programs, the two theoretical perspectives of Transformative Learning Theory and Critical Social Theory are interwoven with the three pedagogical strategies of critical reflection, rational discourse, and policy praxis to increase students' awareness, acknowledgment, and action regarding issues of social justice and equity.     

The Experiential Learning Cycle in Undergraduate Diversity and Social Justice Education

Teaching for diversity and social justice is the teaching of complex abstract ideas about privilege and oppression, such as the social construction of social groups and identity. An effective way to teach this material is with experiential learning, but this approach requires much more than exercises and activities. Courses must be consciously structured to emphasize both the elements and cycle of experiential learning, as well as attending to critical thinking and the potential for cognitive dissonance. An example of this process from an undergraduate course is presented to demonstrate course construction, experiential learning strategies, and initial outcomes.     

Preparing a Data Scientist: A Pedagogic Experience in Designing a Big Data Analytics Course

In this article, we present an experiential perspective on how a big data analytics course was designed and delivered to students at a major Midwestern university. In reference to the MSIS 2006 Model Curriculum, we designed this course as a level 2 course, with prerequisites in databases, computer programming, statistics, and data mining. Students in the class were mostly seniors or at the graduate level, and had a strong technical and quantitative background. We include details of concepts covered in the course, as well as summaries of four major sample course assignments used. Some of the concepts covered include large‐scale data collection and management using the Hadoop ecosystem, stream mining, visual analytics, and social network analytics. Besides Hadoop, the course also introduced various IBM and Teradata big data tools. We show how the course modules align with the intended learning goals and course objectives. A post‐course survey indicated that the structure and organization of the course helped students clearly and concisely assimilate the course content.

大数据背景下创新创业教育提升策略

随着信息技术的飞速发展,我国创新创业教育面临各种挑战.为了运用数字化方式建立起更完善的创新创业学习机制,克服传统教育中存在的各种弊病,推动我国创新创业教育模式的变革和发展.文章从数据平台、教育体系、教学模式、师资队伍等角度分析和探讨了现阶段创新创业教育存在的问题;针对性地提出了大数据背景下提升创新创业教育的几点对策,包括:搭建并完善信息平台;构建创新型人才培养模式;创新教学模式;借鉴国外经验优化师资队伍.     

Sexual Orientation,Social Justice and Teacher Education

Social justice concerns in teacher education are commonly restricted to issues of race/ethnicity, class, gender, disability and geographic location. Sexual orientation, as a social justice issue, receives little or no attention in Australia despite evidence that gay, lesbian and bisexual students constitute a disadvantaged group in school systems. This paper makes the case for the inclusion of sexual orientation as a social justice issue in initial teacher education foundations curriculum, however, it is hypothesised that there is likely to be multi‐faceted resistance to this. Pairing the topics of gender and sexuality/sexual orientation is proposed as both a way of circumventing most of the resistance and achieving some useful outcomes. The paper concludes with a consideration of whose responsibility it is to act on this issue.     

Urban Poetics: Poetry, Social Justice and Critical Pedagogy in Education

Posing an alternate view to high stakes educational models, the thoughts, opinions and practices of four poetry educators are used to provide critical insights as how to infuse creative outlets in the educational process. In gathering the motivations of these poetry educators, a goal of this project is to encapsulate their philosophies through researcher observation and participation. Engaging such work with social justice at the center creates a particular disposition. It can be subjective in the sense that an understanding of improvement requires an explicit commitment to the improvement of the lives of young people in education through a participatory process.David Stovall is an Assistant Professor of Policy Studies.
