AN INTERVIEW WITH KIMMO LEHTONEN

In this interview, Dr. Kimmo Lehtonen discusses the current “state of the art” regarding creativity in Scandinavia, Europe, and around the world. He explores the training of teachers, prodigies, and art and music therapy. Dr. Lehtonen examines the issue of computers relative to creativity and various theoretical explanations for the phenomenon of creativity. Personality factors are examined and explored, and future concerns are delineated.

Dr. Ronald Lippitt is currently professor emeritus of sociology and psychology at the University of Michigan, and he is President of Organization Renewal, Inc. in Washington, D.C. On the topic of community development, Ron has written and taught extensively. He has also written extensively on the study of planned change and the strategies of change‐agentry with his book The Dynamics of Planned Change.

The following is an interview with Ron on the exciting possibility of using community development theories and strategies as a research perspective for studying new ways to govern and manage community colleges. LITERARY DISCUSSION WITH OLDER ADULTS: AN EDUCATIONAL PERSPECTIVE

Adults in later years of life continue to have educational needs and concomitant abilities to learn. Most diversionary programs do not fulfill those needs. The purpose of this study was to examine participation by older adults in a literary discussion group. The program was conducted with a small group (N = 9) of adults in a retirement center. Subjects indicated their motivations for attending were to learn, not be entertained. Further, evidence was presented that provided insight into the unobtrusive design of research in similar settings, and into the group dynamics and facilitation techniques of discussion groups with older adults.
