Animation Festival Makes a New Landmark for China＇s Creative Industry

This July, in a resort hotel at the beautiful Ming Tombs reservoir in the suburb of Beijing, animation experts from Britain, Belgium, China and Hungaw were worMng intensely to review some 500 candidate animation works from 31 countries across the world for 2006 China International Cartoon and Digital Arts Festival （CICDAF）. ＂These candidate works have such high artistic levels and innovative designs that they are out of our most possible expectation. I am confident that this festival will enjoy a highest professional level among all similar events that have ever taken place in China,＂ said the festival organizer with excitement.

Lingering Melodies from Northwest China—Musical“White Dove”debutsin Poly Theatre in Beijing

A legendary story from grandma＇s ballad, a touching love story with both pain and joy. The musical “White Dove”, following the successful performance of the epic drama “Qinghai： A Mysterious Land”, has recently debuted in Poly Theatre in Beijing. This musical production is based on hua＇er, a type of song prevalent throughout northwest China, with singers interacting and improvising topical and love lyrics. “The Yellow River and the Yangtze River are like two long plaits. The Qinghai Lake is like a mirror. Doves are cwstal white and their red eyes are like agate stones...” These are the typical lyrics from this musical production.     

China Opens the World＇s Highest Railway

After fiver years of construction, the world＇s highest and longest plateau railroad, Qinghai-Tibet Raihvav, officially came into operation on July 1, 2006. The 1956-kilometer-long railway, starting from Xining in Qinghai Province and ending in Lhasa in Tibet Autonomous Region, runs through Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. With an area of 2.3 million square kilometers, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau accounts for a quarter of the country＇s total territory and most parts of it stand above an elevation of 2,300 meters. The plateau is known as the ＂third pole of the globe＂ and Qinghai- Tibet Railway is thus called ＂Heavenly Road＂.     

Southeast Asia Expo： China＇s First Exposition

The First Southeast Asia Expo, held in Nanjing in 1910. was the first exposition that China has ever held. The Opium War in 1840 forced China to open its door to Western powers.
