Facilitating support of cyber: Toward a new liaison model with cybersecurity education at Augusta University

This article presents the growth of cybersecurity education on American college campuses as a challenge and an opportunity for all librarians to liaise across schools and departments. Drawing on the experiences of one business and systems librarian serving as library liaison to the College of Business and the newly formed Cyber Institute at Augusta University, this article details the challenges of organizing to liaise with disparate constituencies in a new and rapidly growing subject area. In addition, it looks at the effects that the establishment of Army Cyber Command and the new cybersecurity studies program can have on librarianship now and in the future. Finally, this article considers the usefulness of this new liaison model in light of current and future innovations in higher education.     

‘Today and more than ever,I FEEL LIKE A RESEARCHER’: successful online learning collaborations between librarians and a Graduate School

This article describes the development and delivery of an online module at the University of Nottingham on the literature review process. In particular, it discusses how academic librarians collaborated with researcher developers at the Graduate School at the University to deliver a highly successful online learning experience for students. The article provides an overview of the course, a discussion on the experiences of both the tutors and participants involved, concentrating specifically on those in Medicine and Health Sciences. Details about future international collaborations and development of the course are also provided.

Further Reflections on the WorldCat Collection Analysis Tool

This article focuses on a recent enhancement to the WorldCat Collection Analysis tool, the Interlibrary Loan Analyses module, exploring the possibilities that this enhancement offers for strategic collection development. The study concentrates on the tool as a way to assess the impact of the recent growth at North Carolina State University in biomedicine and human medicine programs. The research contained in this article originated from a session presented at XXVII Annual Charleston Conference, which was held in Charleston, South Carolina, on November 8, 2007.

A 1965 Journal article by James W. Carey, “Variations in Negro/White Television Preferences,”; aroused considerable discussion when it appeared. The following article is on a similar topic, using a different sample. Alan D. Fletcher earned his Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Illinois; this article is based on a section of his dissertation. He presently is associate professor of marketing at Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois.     

A Look Inside the Development of POD in China’s Book Publishing Industry

This article focuses on the POD services for the publishing industry from 2000 to 2016 in China, by looking at some key numbers and introducing several companies and publishers who have invested in the POD business, looking at their business models, advantages and disadvantages. Also this article will share some first-hand information and ideas from people in both the publishing and printing industries.

本文以Unicorn系统为平台,通过系统报表数据对流通中的预约服务进行研究,着重分析了具有实际指导意义的预约失效情况.文章从预约的文献、用户以及预约到馆周期等不同侧面和项目指标展开深入评述,分析失效预约的类型及其产生原因,并有针对性地提出如何降低预约失效比例、提高预约服务有效性和读者满意度的对策和设想.     

No such thing as a mature journal

This article looks at the general idea of developing journals by adding value. It focuses in particular on the notion of the ‘mature journal’ – possibly a mythical beast, but one which most publishing houses will have at least one of (even if they don't know it yet). The article touches on some run‐of‐the‐mill journal issues such as obesity, sex, and death, but will hopefully also throw new light on a corner of the publishing world previously thought of as ‘dull’.

‘Library as Laboratory’: Online Pathfinders and the Humanities Graduate Student

SUMMARY

This article explores how online pathfinders can best meet the information needs of graduate students and foster advanced research. The article reviews the literature on pathfinders, including the historic characteristics of print pathfinders, and the recommendations that have emerged for online pathfinder content. The article explores the information needs of humanities graduate students in general terms, and specifically examines extant online pathfinders in the field of art history. The article concludes with recommendations for the content of online pathfinders aimed at the humanities graduate student audience.

This article informally shares some principles, rules of thumb, and ideas about funding communication technology research projects, though it applies to other areas as well. The article draws on the experience of the communication technology research experience at the international, cross-university, and interdisciplinary network of Media Interface and Network Design (M.I.N.D.) Labs.

‘The feeling of exclusion’: Young peoples' perceptions of art galleries

This article first looks at the relationship between museums and art galleries and their potential audiences and, in particular, the under-represented sector of young visitors. It examines the main findings from the limited research available on young visitors, and goes on to discuss theories delineating the differences between the cultures, identities and values of culture consumers and culture providers. The second part of the article looks at what specific museums have done towards being more inclusive in their appeal, and then reports the findings of a survey of young people in relation to New Zealand's Auckland Art Gallery. The survey found that young people's ideas of what constitutes modern, relevant art do not match standard art criteria, and that most exhibitions and marketing methods do not mesh with their worldview. The article concludes by using data from the survey to suggest ways of engaging more young people with public art galleries.
