Numerical prediction of statistical masonry wall fragment distribution induced by blast loading

The hazard caused by the fragments of damaged structures is usually significant in acci-dental explosions or hostile blast events.A reliable and efficient method to estimate probable fragment size,velocity and launch distance will be useful to assess and design countermeasures to mitigate the possible fragment hazards.This paper presents a numerical method for predicting the size and launch distance of the fragments caused by explosive damage of masonry wall.Numerical simulations with different scaled distances are carried out,and the statistical distribution functions of the fragment size and launch distance in terms of the scaled distance are derived.

Research on Management Model of Chinese Sports Events

Investigation of stressful life events in patients with systemic sclerosis

Objective: To assess the occurrence of stressful life events in the year before the initiation of systemic sclerosis. Methods: A consecutive series of 40 patients with systemic sclerosis (mean age (56.3~ 11.9) years, mean disease duration (4.3±3.1) years; 32 females and 8 males), including 28 with diffuse cutaneous scleroderma and 12 with limited cutaneous scleroderma, were evaluated. A control group of 40 healthy subjects free of systemic sclerosis also was included. Socioeconomic status was inves-tigated and Paykel's interview for recent life events (a semi-structured research interview covering 64 life events) was conducted. Results: Patients with systemic sclerosis showed higher percentages of lower education (72.5%) and working class (82.5%), and reported more stressful life events (P＜0.05), such as exits (P＜0.05), undesirable events (P＜0.01), and uncontrolled events (P＜0.001), when compared with the control. More events that had an objective negative impact (P＜0.001) were also reported in systemic sclerosis patients than in the control. These results are in accordance with a muitifactorial model of pathogenesis in systemic sclerosis. Conclusion: We reported a strong relationship between stressful life events and the initiation of systemic sclerosis. Our findings are consistent with current understanding of the extensive links of behavioral responses to stress with neurophysiological and biochemical processes.

Learning Assessment and Resource Evaluation： Two Tough Battles of Distance Education Xie Yangbin, Sang Xinmin Abstract：This is a dialogue among two scholars about current development and change of distance education in China. Although significant achievements have been made, many problems also emerged in the third generation of distance education. To solve these problems, the authors argue that building and refining a robust evaluation system is one of the priorities. Besides the evaluation of institution and its learning support service delivery, the components of this new system include various emerging models for assessment of learning and evaluation of instructor, curriculum and resources. Around this priority, Learning assessment and resource evaluation could he the first two breakthroughs in the reform of distance education, with the purpose to improve learners independent learning ability, self confidence and comprehensive quality. A Comparison of Demonstratives in English and Chinese

This paper re-examines the comparison of the demonstratives in English and Chinese,which has been discussed by many linguists.They argue that the demonstratives in English and Chinese don’t correspond symmetrically,and that ’这’ in Chinese,for example,is more widely used than this in English.Earlier approaches to the comparison in terms of space,time and text distance are reviewed.This paper assumes that,compared with English demonstratives,the proximity indicated by Chinese demonstratives is more influenced by psychological factors.This paper holds that the space,time and text distance as well as psychological distance act upon each other,co-determining the choice of demonstratives in Chinese.     

Transformation Digital Divide into Digital Opportunities for Rural Population ——Research and Practice of Rural Distance Education and information Service in Beijing

The disparities between urban and rural areas are increasingly widening with the development of the ＂digital divide＂; however, information technology plays an important role in accelerating rural development. After investigation and analysis, Beijing Academy of Agricukure and Forestry Sciences （BAAFS） has schemed out a network transmission solution and an user application system, which are adaptable to the reality in China＇s rural areas and provide a distance education for farmers with e-lectures, multi-media courseware and other information services, including website, Agricultural voice information Consultative Service System, Agricultural Intelligence-System and 3S technology. The rural distance education and information service system greatly contributed to the information-driven agriculture, the qualifying of farmers and the rural development. This paper introduces the training and learning modes of adult education in rural areas through modem information technology. Furthermore, the paper discusses the problems encountered during the development of Beijing rural distance education.     

Three-dimensional bursting phenomena in meander channel

Experiments were conducted in a U-shaped open-channel flume with the intention of investigating the bursting phenomena in the meander channel. The experimental results of the secondary flow fields and the Reynolds shear stress distributions show that the velocity and velocity fluctuation in the transverse direction are not negligible. Moreover, the bursting process is investigated using the three-dimensional quadrant analysis, which is more accurate than using the traditional two-dimensional quadrant analysis for the meandering channel. It is obtained from the experimental results that the internal group of events occurs more frequently than the external group, particularly the internal ejection and internal sweep events. In addition, the transition probabilities of the movements, which are defined as the changes of events from the current situation to the next situation in a time series, show that the stable organizations of events are the most possible movements, whereas the cross organizations of events have the least possible movements.     

Undercooling and Solidification of Sn—Pb Alloy Droplets Prepared by Uniform Droplet Spray

The undercooling and solidification of 150μm and 185μm droplets of Sn-5%Pb alloy prepared by the uniform droplet spray(UDS) process have been investigated.The enthalpy of the droplet has been measured by non-adiabatic calorimetric method as a function of the flight distance.A droplet solidification simulation model has been used to compare with the experimental data.The results show that the enthalpy released by the droplets in the calorimeter 11.88J/g and 22.29J/g less than the simulated values up to a certain flight distance at 0.485m and 0.460m for 150μm and 185μm droplets respectively,but agrees with the expected values at larger distance.The nucleation of the droplets takes place at the distance where the experimental and simulated enthalpy values agree.The droplets quenched before nucleation solidify into metastable supersaturated solid solution and have large undercooling.The formation of the metastable structure in the droplets has been verified metallographically and by calculations based on a thermodynamic model.

English Training for College Student Volunteers at Sports Events

This paper studies English training for student volunteers at large scale sports events with a comprehensive investigation of the undergraduate student volunteers from Capital University of Physical Education who have taken part in large scale sports events.By examining the current volunteer training situation,the author finds that there is a sever lack of professional and systematical English training for student volunteers at large scale sports events.The study shows focusing on sports events knowledge and requirements of the volunteers’specific job is crucial to the service level of the volunteers.The study concludes that the problem can be solved by developing new course books,innovating new flexible training methods,and offering more comprehensive training content.The recommended training methods include intensive group training,computer aided teaching,task training and on-the-spot training to make them fit their work soon.
