More ＂Golden Spikes＂ Set up in China

After more than two decades of hard work, an international working group led by renowned paleontologist JIN Yugan (1937-2006) from the CAS Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology (NIGPAS) and his coworkers has finally convinced the world geological community that the stratotype sections for the base and internal boundaries of the Upper Permian (Lopingian) Series about 250million years ago are located in China.     

Interview with Axel Mosig： ＂To expect the unexpected＂

The German Axel Mosig has spent more than five years at the CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology （PICB）, a joint effort of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the German Max Planck Society. He studied computer science at the University of Bonn, where he also received his Ph.D. in 2004. In 2005, he became one of the first scientists at the newly established PICB in Shanghai. Two years ago, he returned to Germany and was appointed Professor at Ruhr University Bochum. The current focus of his research is computational bioimaging and RNomics.     

Largest ever photonic ＂Schrodinger cat＂ created

CAS researchers have been successful in their experimental entanglement of six photons in graph states: a "Schr(o)dinger cat" state, and a "cluster" state. By creating two important examples of such states, according to experts, the studies have paved the way for the research into the fundamental issues in quantum computing, quantum error correction and quantum mechanics.

Snow leopard found in high-altitude area on ＂World Roof＂

Researchers with the CAS Cold and Arid Region .Environmental andEngineering Research Institute shot pictures of a snow leopard on a grassland about 5,100m above the sea level on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The pictures are precious because they are the first images of the endangered animal in the region.
