有一种职业,叫“记者“,狂风暴雪里,向前,向前,采集寒风的讯息,体味雪花的温度,出现在行路艰辛的回乡游子面前,报告着最新的消息。有一种职业,叫“记者“,天塌地陷时,向前,向前,记录灾难降临的真实场景,守望生命消逝的苦痛悲伤,陪伴在历经劫难的废墟孤儿身边,传递着人间的温暖。

"常回家看看"入法很雷人

2011年1月11日,北京市朝阳区的霍光里社区,暖洋洋的阳光透过凌乱的树枝洒在墙上.这里靠近东三环,街道上,充满朝气的年轻人随处可见,他们迈着急匆匆的脚步,为了生活,不懈打拼.不远处,转过弯,就在街道的对面,老人们三五成群地围坐在一起,说着昨天的天气和儿女;忽然几名放学的孩童的奔跑笑闹声传来,老人们蓦然惊醒猛地抬头,嘴角嗫嚅有词.每天盼着儿孙回家团圆,成了老人心头的情感牵挂,这是他们永恒的话题.     

古籍版本与古医籍整理及其编辑要点

何谓古籍版本?简言之,就是同一部古书在不同历史时期的不同刊本.我国的古代图书,历经了千年的风雨变迁、兵燹水火,其脱讹散佚者颇为严重.其间,屡经历代传抄影写与刻印,形成了各种版本之间的差异.诸如内容的增删修改,刻写的字体大小,版面的长短阔窄,印刷的精良粗陋,以及装订的精美简易等,均有所不同.版本不仅限于木版雕刻的书本,在印刷术发明之前,书写在竹简木牍和锦帛上的本子,以及后世的活字排版、照像石印、铅字排印等书本,均属于版本的范畴.     

梅光迪与胡适的文言白话之争

提起梅光迪,知道他的人并不多,但提起胡适、吴宓、陈寅恪、汤用彤等,大家则非常熟悉,而事实上,这些人都是梅光迪的同学或朋友,他们处在同一个时代,都是有名的国学大师、学派代表人物. 1909年,梅光笛在胡绍庭的介绍下认识了胡适,当时他们都只有19岁,血气方刚,胸怀大志.两人一见如故,相交甚欢,常有书信往来,要么探讨一些复兴古学、孔教、文学革命的话题,要么相互鼓励,共同进步,不知不觉,他们成了十分要好的朋友.然而,随着时间的推移,他们在学术上的分歧越来越大,以至于后来爆发了一场激烈的、旷日持久的战争——“文言与白话”.     

盘点2008

岁月其徂,一年又逝。每至此,难免生出许多的怀想眷恋、白云亲舍之情。回首既往,天边的闪烁,在于一本本使人陷入沉思的著作,如同沙砾中的金粉隐约耀眼,这是书籍独有的智慧,是坐在电视或电脑旁很难产生的,因为这种智慧,才使出版人的价值无愧地体现,这便是所谓的独有。再者,一个个令业者经久回味的观点,是心间荡漾的激情,这些观点的效应,或许要在若干年后方可显现,或许待转为其他的措施时方可物化。然而,最是那些曾经闪烁的星辰,却在我们的眼前划然陨落了,其实他们也都是普通的人,之所以轸念他们,皆在于他们以普通人的身份做出了不普通的业绩,除去他们非凡的业务,他们的力量来自他们的人格和思想。     

“大话”中的媒体变奏

今天,麦克卢汉的"地球村"假说早已实现,数字技术大行其道,互联网变得与人们的生活息息相关.就犹如古典时代的街头巷尾,网络成为人们崭新的聚集空间,大家于其间相遇、相识,交换彼此的信息,拿走各自的所需.作为网络语言的重要组成部分,"大话"俨然不仅仅是简单的叙事手段,更是后现代话语解构的重要体现,抑或已经成为现代人,尤其是年轻一代的生存方式,处世之道.这种话语方式,不论在之前王家卫的电影、金庸的小说、张艺谋的作品,再到今天的网络博客、<水煮三国>,已经渗透到我们周边媒介环境的方方面面,谈到例证,可以说是信手拈来.     

整顿图书市场的五大措施

目前,我国图书市场除了保留着较深的计划经济的烙印外,无序状态和恶性竞争还十分严重,如盗版,剽窃,胡编滥造,弄虚作假,买卖书号,高定价、低折扣等等.由此可见,在加大图书市场化的同时,加强宏观调控,加大整顿图书市场的力度,实属当务之急.     

基于心理契约的编者与作者关系优化

融洽的编者和作者关系促进双方的心理平衡、尊重、理解和认同,彼此间起激励作用;心理契约遭到破坏,编者和作者间产生失望、挫折和欺凌感,影响编者工作积极性和作者信任,甚至产生懈怠、报复或不端行为。本文基于心理契约,从微观视角,探讨编者和作者信任关系的构建与承诺履行机制,分析彼此间心理期望的内容、心理契约违背的感知、违背的危害及基于心理契约的编者和作者关系优化策略。     

“A Home for Me When I Am So Far from Home”: Perceptions of Libraries by Immigrant Mothers in Language Acquisition and Cultural Acclimation

This phenomenological study examines the unique perceptions of immigrant women concerning the public library as a meeting place, a support to integration into American culture, and a provider of programs for acquisition of the English language. The library offers a place for observing the culture of the new country from a distance to active participation; it is an arena for comfort and consolation in a difficult life situation as well as an arena for activity and participation. It provides support in developing friendships, acclimating to a new culture, learning a new language, and providing avenues to employment. Three mothers, who fulfilled the criteria for the study, were selected from an initial focus group. Women from Kurdistan, Mexico, and Indonesia were interviewed individually to gain an understanding on the issues brought forth in the focus group. They participated in interviews over the course of 6 months. These programs became a fortuitous blending of an established community with a group of families looking for a support community in a new country. This study has implications for institutions serving immigrants as they look to find a community of support, to learn English, and to acclimate to American culture as they create a comfortable identity that blends their home country with the new country.

结合我国社会主义新农村建设中存在的问题,主张使科技期刊智库、桥梁、转化器的社会功能达到进一步开发与拓展,在科技推广中扮演裁判、教练、媒人角色,当好“龙头”,培养新型农民,以技术链延伸产业链和价值链,形成资源节约型、环境友好型农村技术体,提升我国农业强国的地位。     

Face the Books: A Leadership Journey

Leadership, as a topic, has seen a lot of interest in academics as well as with practitioners. The search, however, has not yielded a concrete formula, though there are quite a few theories which have worked well in certain contexts. The context of special libraries is one such area which has a huge potential in discovering what leadership actions have worked well and what can be a framework for success in other special libraries, especially when the utility of special libraries is being questioned in a corporate environment. The dearth of leadership and leadership development literature in special libraries, from a practitioner's point of view, provides a good opportunity for sharing a small journey of success. The column builds upon the application of leadership actions deriving from diverse and merging fields like learning and development, organizational behavior, marketing, and human psychology of reading in making a case for the utility of corporate libraries in the development of employees.     

Index-Based Persistent Document Identifiers

The infrastructure of a typical search engine can be used to calculate and resolve persistent document identifiers: a string that can uniquely identify and locate a document on the Internet without reference to its original location (URL). Bookmarking a document using such an identifier allows its retrieval even if the document's URL, and, in many cases, its contents change. Web client applications can offer facilities for users to bookmark a page by reference to a search engine and the persistent identifier instead of the original URL. The identifiers are calculated using a global Internet term index; a document's unique identifier consists of a word or word combination that occurs uniquely in the specific document. We use a genetic algorithm to locate a minimal unique document identifier: the shortest word or word combination that will locate the document. We tested our approach by implementing tools for indexing a document collection, calculating the persistent identifiers, performing queries, and distributing the computation and storage load among many computers.     

Creating an Institutional Repository: Elements for Success!

ABSTRACT

The institutional repository (IR) can be a dynamic, online collection of research, writing, and projects conducted by a university’s faculty and students. IRs are also important tools that allow a library to create a connection with faculty and students. This report will identify the services and content essential to a successful institutional repository, discuss how to build a team of talented experts to build and market the repository, address the creation of a business plan and strategies for marketing and building social media presence, and conclude with thoughts on how to develop, process, and publish journals locally and sustainably.     

A brave new world?—Understanding U.S.-China coproductions: collaboration,conflicts, and obstacles

The unprecedented growth in U.S.-China film coproductions and Chinese companies’ high-profile investment in Hollywood studios and U.S. cinemas signal a shift in global power relationships and a reshaping of the global media structure. Combining textual and document analysis with interviews of policy makers and film professionals in China and Hollywood, this article explores the implications of U.S.-China coproduction for global communication. The article proposes three ways of understanding coproductions: as a market-driven and profit-seeking partnership, as a policy and power negotiation, and as a brave experimental adventure. This article contends that the current state of U.S.-China coproduction manifests the contradiction between desire and reality. Although coproductions have the potential to create a space for a new global culture, to develop innovative communication models, and to achieve a China-U.S. consensus, the fulfillment of these potentials will require a steadfast effort and the commitment of more than one generation of filmmakers from both China and the U.S.A. Nevertheless, a global culture and a reshaping of the global media structure are in the making.     

Managing Discovery and Linking Services

There is a growing trend toward a consolidation of services for electronic resources management, A–Z journal listings, full text link resolving, and discovery services under a single service provider. In many cases, the adoption of a discovery service from a provider that is not the same as the libraries’ existing link resolver service means managing multiple knowledgebases. In this session, three librarians gave an overview of their experiences and strategies for maintaining separate link resolving and discovery services in lieu of adopting a full suite of services from a single service provider. Each speaker presented a case study on the advantages and challenges of managing their chosen discovery service: EBSCO Discovery Service, Ex Libris’ Primo and ProQuest’s Summon, in conjunction with the CUFTS/GODOT open source knowledgebase and link resolver service.     

Courting Apocalypse: Creating a Zombie-Themed Evidence-Based Medicine Game

In 2015, two librarians at the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences at the University of Iowa turned their dreams into a reality and secured funding to build a zombie-themed evidence-based medicine game. The game features a “choose your own adventure” style that takes students through a scenario where a disease outbreak is taking place and a resident is asked to use evidence-based medicine skills to select a screening and diagnostic tool to use on potentially infected patients. Feedback on the game has been positive, and future plans include building additional modules on therapy, harm, and prognosis.
