School-linked and school-based health services: A renewed call for collaboration between school psychologists and medical professionals

Health care and education reform provide opportunities to build systems that promote rather than retard collaboration between school psychologists and medical professionals. School-linked and school-based health services (SLSBHS) are a family of approaches that provide medical, social, and mental health services to students through school settings. These services have potential to provide more than acute care or first-aid services. SLSBHS provide medical care to uninsured children, students with chronic medical needs, at-risk children, and the overall school population. However, there are usually not enough funds to hire new staff members in most school districts. Expanding the roles of current school staff, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and implementing creative fiscal strategies are necessary to develop SLSBHS. Interdisciplinary collaboration may be the largest hurdle to developing SLSBHS. As such, school psychologists and medical professionals may need to rethink their professional roles and develop new techniques of interdisciplinary consultation to fulfill the potential of SLSBHS.     

School psychologists’ interprofessional collaboration with medical providers: An initial examination of training,preparedness, and current practices

Research has pointed to the importance of interprofessional collaboration (IPC) between school psychologists and medical providers in the provision of quality mental health care for youth with chronic health conditions. However, little is known about current IPC practices among school psychologists. This study examined school psychology trainees’ and professionals’ perceptions of training, preparedness, and current practices related to IPC with medical providers. Survey results indicated that participants (N = 317) endorse relatively low levels of training and preparedness and limited practice of IPC with medical providers. Additionally, results indicated that perceptions of training and preparedness were associated with current practices in IPC with medical providers. Findings demonstrated the impact of training and preparedness on subsequent engagement in IPC and have implications for the future training of school psychologists as they seek to address the needs of youth with chronic health conditions.     

心理健康视阈下的高中生学习问题分析——以合肥市某中学为例

为了了解高中生学习问题的特点和具体表现,从而为学校有针对性地开展学习指导及心理健康教育工作提供依据.针对2011年9月至2013年1月合肥某中学心理咨询中心74例学生（含9例学生家长）咨询记录进行统计分析,结果表明：高中生心理咨询的主要问题为学习问题（42人,56.77％）和情绪、行为问题（14人,18.92％）.其中学习压力大、学习效率低（20人,47.62％）是咨询最多的学习问题.前来咨询的女生多于男生.为此,学校应采取各种应对措施帮助学生解决学习问题,提高学生的心理健康水平.     

加拿大医学教育中的全球卫生:当前的实践和机遇

全球化带来了卫生和卫生保健的变化,对医学生全球卫生训练的需求也日益增加.为了解目前加拿大各医学院开展全球卫生训练的情况,作者于2005-2006学年对加拿大所有医学院(共17所)进行了问卷调查,结果表明课程设置不能满足需求且各医学院的举措没有统一规范.作者建议在一些全国性组织的领导下,各医学院采用统一的方法进行全球卫生训练.

本课题研究的立足点是:在课堂教学中渗透心理健康教育。经过多年的理论研究和实践探索,构建并完善了学校心理健康教育的理论模式,找到了在课堂教学中渗透心理健康教育的最好途径——个别化教学,提出学教互动、具体互动、积极关注、自主教育、案例教学等有效的个别化教学策略,拓展了学生心理档案在个别化教学中的应用,使学生提升了心理健康水平,提高了学习质量,同时培养了一支心理健康教育的教师队伍。

The dangers of schooling: the introduction of school medical inspection in the Netherlands (c.1900)

In this article the authors address the question of why school medical inspection in the Netherlands developed not only considerably slower than the British service but did so also on a more modest scale in terms of the impact on children’s lives. In the Netherlands school doctors were not allowed to treat children’s illnesses and therefore never opened clinics of their own. Likewise, they did not become part of the school system or even join forces in a national school medical service. To explain this the authors discuss the history of school hygienic concern since the mid‐nineteenth century, the respective roles played and arguments provided by the medical and teaching professions in the process of claiming the necessity for school medical inspection, and the conditions that have determined the appointment and instructions of school doctors since 1904. They draw the conclusion that the rapidly growing power of religious groups has limited the expansion of the medical regime. In the Netherlands schoolchildren did not become part of the ‘social body’ because of national fitness, but because society no longer accepted the inadequacy of the protection of pupils’ health against the dangers of schooling, especially after compulsory education was introduced.
