On Conversion of Parts of Speech in Translation

Conversion of parts of speech, one of the frequently adopted translation techniques, means the change of parts of speech. The thesis gives a simple account of conversion of parts of speech in English-Chinese translation by comparisons of the characteristics of the two languages, which can improve the quality of translation.

On Cultures of Curriculum in Mass Higher Education-Taking SEIB in GDUFS as an Example

The thesis focuses on the reconstruction of cultures of curriculum,their qualities of cultural reflection,generativity,and the renewal of their natures and logics,in order to serve for the practice of quality education.By taking the cultures of curriculum of School of English for International Business (SEIB) in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) as an example,the thesis adopts qualitative approach,on the one hand,to obtain the current situation of cultures of curriculum by exploring the contemporary value orientation of curriculum in Business English (BE) major;on the other hand,to be aware of teachers’ and students’understandings of cultures of curriculum for comparison by a survey for students and in-depth interviews for both of the two parts.Consequently,problems are identified and solved through seeking the reconstruction of cultures of curriculum which aims at pursuing cultures of curriculum as they ought to be.

Effect of the amplification factor on seismic stability of expanded municipal solid waste landfills using the pseudo-dynamic method

The evaluation of the seismic stability of an expanded municipal solid waste （MSW） landfill is very important in seismic prone zones. In this paper, the pseudo-dynamic method was used to calculate the average safety factor for the expanded landfill with a trapezoidal berm based on under-berm failure conditions. Furthermore, the effects of the variation of parameters such as the amplification factor, seismic coefficient, height of berm, angle of back slope of berm, and depth of waste mass at the back slope on the seismic stability of the landfill were studied. The results indicated that the influences of the vertical seismic coefficient, height of berm, and angle of the back slope of the berm on the seismic stability of the landfill are weakened as the amplification factor increases, but the influence of the horizontal seismic coefficient on the seismic stability of the landfill is strengthened. On the other hand, a certain ratio of the height of the waste mass above the back slope to the depth of waste mass at the back slope, or the reasonable consideration of the magnitude of the amplification factor will be conducive to the seismic design of the landfill. In addition, the results obtained by the pseudo-static and pseudo-dynamic methods were compared.

This paper presents an analysis result of three-dimensional meshing of crown gear coupling （CGC） surfaces of crown gear and internal gear are established. The equation of internal gear surface is given. The equation of conjugate surface of crown gear is solved according to the principle of gearing, and that of non-conjugate crown gear is derived with crown curve of a circular arc. The meshing state of conjugate and non-conjugate surfaces is analyzed through computation of contact lines and points. It is concluded that the meshing of conjugate CGC is line-contact, there are several pairs of teeth engage simultaneously, and non-conjugate CGC has point-contact condition of meshing and only 2 pairs of teeth engage in theory.     

On the Relational Nature of Language System

Relational nature of language system is of vital importance in Saussure’s theory of linguistics.As philosopher Ernst Cassirer put that the crucial and revolutionary aspect of modern linguistics was Saussure’s affirmation of the primacy of relation and the system of relations.This paper is devoted to a clear elaboration of the relational nature of linguistic system in terms of three perspectives,namely the arbitrariness of sign,the nature of identity and the linguistic value.It is also suggested that profound understanding of this relational nature facilitate our understanding of its importance not only in linguistics but also beyond linguistics.

A Study on Translation Approaches to Commercial Letters of Credit under the Guidance of Skopos Theory

According to the customs,by the end of 2011,the whole value of Chinese foreign trade is two thousand nine hundred and ninety four billion dollars,by the end of 2009,5 percents of the accounts of Chinese foreign trade with a value of fifty hundred billion dollars are unpaid.Most of the financial loss are caused by wrong translation of documents.The letter of credit is the most important way of payment in the international trade,so great attention should be paid to the translation of this type of document.Until now,the study against the translation of the letter of credit is scant.This paper will apply the skopos theory put forward by Hans Vermeer and developed in Germany in the late 1970s to guide the translation practice of the letter of credit.     

Nonlinear dynamic response of stay cables under axial harmonic excitation

This paper proposes a new numerical simulation method for analyzing the parametric vibration of stay cables based on the theory of nonlinear dynamic response of structures under the asynchronous support excitation. The effects of important parameters related to parametric vibration of cables, i.e., characteristics of structure, excitation frequency, excitation amplitude, damping effect of the air and the viscous damping coefficient of the cables, were investigated by using the proposed method for the cables with significant length difference as examples. The analysis results show that nonlinear finite element method is a powerful technique in analyzing the parametric vibration of cables, the behavior of parametric vibration of the two cables with different Irvine parameters has similar properties, the amplitudes of parametric vibration of cables are related to the frequency and amplitude of harmonic support excitations and the effect of distributed viscous damping on parametric vibration of the cables is very small.

Abstract：Confucian political thought mainly discusses the way of governing, which in- cludes three main points＇ benevolent government, rule of virtue and rule of rite. Benevo- lent government, which means that we should establish the rule of benevolent governance and realize social order, stability and harmony in the whole world, is the core of Confucius thought. Rule of virtue is that virtue is the primary method of state governance. Rule of rite is that rite is taken as the basic norm of restricting the behavior of people. In Han dy- nasty, Confucianism finally changed into the national ideology. Afterwards, rulers of oth- er Chinese dynasties also highly praised Confucianism. Nowadays we should research Con- fucianism from the perspective of Marxism, absorb the beneficial ingredients for the con- struction of the socialism with Chinese characteristics.     

Does Physical Activity of Preschool Teachers Impact the Planning and Implementation of Movement Activities in the Kindergartens？

The authors of this paper compared the views of Slovenian and Portuguese preschool teachers about the importance of play and movement for the preschool children. In the paper, they focused on the question： Does physical activity of preschool teachers （spontaneous or planned） impact the planning and implementation of movement activities in their kindergarten group？ They also analyzed the influence of subjective theories on the planning of movement activities and the realization of the curriculum objectives in the field of movement. Most of the preschool teachers in Slovenia and Portugal give priority to natural forms of movement in nature and play, allowing the movement of the fingers, palms, and hands. Research has shown a link between physical activity of preschool teachers and their views on the importance of the implementation of the movement activities of preschool children. The authors also noted that the quality of the implementation of the education process in kindergartens in the area of movement activities depends on their subjective theories to a great extent and on the level of professional competence referred to the discussed topic.

After making an analysis of the deficiencies of the present translation of tourist materials and discussion of the causes of the deficiencies in linguistic differences and cultural differences, the present paper proposes some practical translation methods of tourist materials with the help of the strategy of foreignization.

Studying on the increasing temperature in IT-SOFC： Effect of heat sources

The dimensions and the materials type limit the performance of fuel cell. The increase of the temperature in electrodes and electrolyte of the cell,is due to the over potential of activation (transfer of load),the over potential Ohmic (resistance of polarization),the over potential of reaction (heat released by the chemical reaction) and the over potential of diffusion. In this paper,we studied the thermo-electrical performance of an intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cell (IT-SOFC) with electrode supported. The aim of this work is to study this increasing temperature of a single cell of an IT-SOFC under the influence of the following parameters: heat sources,functioning temperature and voltages of the cell,geometric configuration and materials type. The equation of energy in one dimension is numerically resolved by using the method of finite volumes. A computing program (FORTRAN) is developed locally for this purpose in order to obtain fields of temperature in every element of the cell.
