Bilingualism is becoming increasingly common because of more frequent immigration and the new teaching concept adopted by many schools.One becomes bilingual either by acquiring two languages at the same time in childhood or by learning a second language sometime after acquiring their first language.To know more about bilingualism is of great importance,particularly to language teachers and learners.This article tries to analyze a bilingual’s language development on the basis of existing researches by some great linguists and tries to find out how to realize the positive language transfer in English teaching and learning through the interaction between two languages.     

The Negative Transfer of Mother Tongue on English Pronunciation——from the Phonetic and Phonological Perspectives

Language researchers have long been working on the language transfer theory since 1970s with an aim to help second language acquisition. Researches on transfer of pronunciation were explored from many aspects, such as phonetics, age, motivation and culture etc. By illustrating the Chinese learners’ improper English pronunciation, it tries to discuss the negative transfer of their mother tongue on the English pronunciation on the theoretical basis of phonetic and phonological differences between the two languages. Based on these studies and analysis, it hopes to arouse the learners’ awareness of the different pronunciation between English and Chinese and their interests in acquiring a native-like pronunciation, and hopefully the teachers will also help the learners have a good knowledge of the difference before they’re affected by the negative transfer of Chinese.

This thesis is designed to analyze the concrete manifestation of gender differences in language use and speech style in English communication.Gender differences do exist in communication and will be gradually diminished with the development of society and the improvement of women’s position.

Negative Transfer of Chinese to English Learning in Lexis

Language transfer is a common phenomenon in language learning.Transfer can be positive or negative.Researches show that language transfer occurs in all aspects of language,such as syntax,pragmatics,and lexis etc.According to a research,Chinese English learners may make plenty of mistakes during the beginning of the process of English language learning,51% of which are caused by the negative transfer of Chinese.In this article,I put emphasis on analyzing various mistakes due to the negative transfer of Chinese on the subject of lexis.I also provide some solution to minimize the negative transfer of Chinese in our English learning.     

Analysis on Language Transfer And English Learning

But for Chinese students,negative language transfer is a big obstacle that they must overcome if they want to master this language. On Positive Transfer of Native Language in the Foreign Language Teaching and Learning

Native language plays an important role in the field of foreign language teaching and learning. When it comes to the transfer of the native language, we always think about the negative interference of it, even if we know that language transfer can be divided into positive transfer and negative transfer. In fact, we should not neglect these common areas between Chinese and English, which lead to the positive transfer and strengthen the efficient process of language learning. Here, there have been listed four levels of common areas between Chinese and English to illustrate the positive transfer from Chinese to English.     

An Exploratory Case Study of Formal Similarityand Psychological Similarity in Language Transfer

Second language Learners’ awareness of the native-target language "distance" was said to be included in the constraints of language transfer,i.e.whether or not learners actually transfer a form can depend in part on the degree that learners establish a similarity between the two languages in form and psychology.This paper aims to explore the roles that formal similarity and psychological similarity playing upon language transfer and the detailed relationship between them each other,by analyzing the data coming from two cases where Chinese students’ acquiring Japanese and English,so as to provide a scientific experimental basis for better understanding of language transfer and higher efficiency of second language learning.     

A Brief Analysis of Negative Transfer of Chinese on the English Writings

Based on the researches of language transfer,contrastive analysis and error analysis,this paper tries to investigate the negative transfer of Chinese on Chinese students’English writings from the perspective of syntax.During one and a half months’teaching practice in Shannxi Hanzhong No.1 Middle School,the author lived through the real teaching process and found that there were lots of problems in students’English writings.The author makes a contrastive study of the different characteristics existing in Chinese and English languag es at the level of syntax,and analyses the typical syntactic errors appearing in the 60 students’English compositions collected from one or dinary class.These syntactic errors are caused by the negative transfer of Chinese.The purpose of the investigation is to study in what pat tern students have been influenced by Chinese in their English writings.Based on the findings and analysis of the mother tongue transfer on English writings,some implications are also provided in order to help minimize or eliminate the interference of negative transfer of the Chinese in students’English writings and improve the teaching and learning of English.     

Language Transfer in Third Language Acquisition

Language transfer is one of the areas that have received special attention in the research of third language(L3).This paper focus es on the transfer of syntax from first language(L1) and second language(L2) in the early stage of third language acquisition(TLA).It aims at finding out whether L1 or L2 is the main source of transfer and trying to account for this phenomenon in light of typology and psy chotypology theories.A story telling task is used among 8 university students who have Chinese,English and French as L1,L2 and L3.The findings indicate that although both L1 Chinese and L2 English exert influence on L3 French production in the form of transfer,more L2 transfer occurs due to the typological and psychotypological similarity between L2 English and L3 French.The results confirm previous studies on the important roles of typological and psychotypological similarity in determining the source of transfer in a multilin gual’s language production.Some pedagogical implications of the findings are also discussed.     

Strategies and Reflection of Oral English Teaching in Vocational College

As a widely-used language,English is the most important tool of communication.In recent years,with the rapid social communicative development,English increasingly shows its importance.China’s English teaching in colleges and vocational colleges also increases emphasis on the teaching of spoken English.In this paper,that is,in my vocational college on the practice of oral English teaching,I analyze and explore Spoken English in the teaching process and the difficulties encountered by the setbacks.Vocational college English teaching briefly discusses the status of oral English teaching and teaching strategies.Spoken English Teaching strategy comes from the reflection.     

On Negative Transfer in Pronunciation by English Majors in Higher Vo cational and Technical Colleges

In the reform of educational structure in China recently, vocational education is being focused and higher vocational education is developing rapidly. With the increase of student enrollment in Higher Vocational Technical College (HVTC), the quality of students is declining in the meantime and especially the students who major in English have a low proficiency in English language. This thesis explores the theory of phonetics and the theory of transfer in second language learning and deals with negative transfer of mother tongue in segmental and supra-segmental levels to HVTC students when they learn English pronunciation and intonation.     

Analysis of the Causes of Chinglish in Spoken English among Students

The Inspiration of The Interpreter’s Roles to College English Teaching

Jef Verschueren is the representative of European Continental pragmatic thought.He puts forward a new theory that pragmatics is a perspective on language and he uses the theory of adaptation to analyze pragmatics."The general concern for the study of linguistic pragmatics is to understand the meaningful functioning of a language as a dynamic process operating on context-structure relationships at various levels of salience"(Verschuren 2000:69).The focal points in contexts are the utterer and the interpreter,for the physical,social and mental aspects of contexts are activated by language users’cognitive processes.Verschueren divided interpreter’s roles into five types:addressee,side participant,bystander,listener-in and eavesdropper,which can explain the adaptation of context and language choices.This is also applicable in college English classroom as the English class is also a context.At present students taught at the same time by the same teacher do not master the knowledge at the same level.One of the reason is that students are not engaged in the class at the same level.According to the Verschueren’s theory,the best English teaching class is one that each student in the addressee of teachers.Addressee is a metaphor which means everyone should follow the teachers’explanation carefully and take part in the teaching activities.It has something to do with interaction theory,which considers students as active individuals but not passive receivers.One of the common interaction patterns is questioning.In this thesis,the question how to make students addresses through adoption of questioning approach in college English class will be researched.
