CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION CALLS FOR GREATER PUBLIC AWARENESS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

A 36-person delegation from the US President＇s Committee on the Arts and the Humanity paid an official visit to China from June 5 to 13 at the invitation of Chinese Cultural Ministry. On June 10, the delegation attended a seminar on the conservation of world heritage sites in Suitcase House in Commune by the Great Wall,a resort hotel in the suburb of Beijing.At the seminar Shan Jixiang,Director-General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China,delivered a presentation on the trends of cultural heritage conservation in China as wall as China-US exchange and cooperation in the field of cultural heritage conservation.

Festival of China Strengthens US-China Cultural Ties

My Second Hometown Langde Village

I was born in Gouliang Village, Fenghuang County, Hunan Province, which is dubbed as the ＂First Miao People Village of Western Hunan＂. But I have been more fascinated by my second hometown, Langde Village in Leishan County, Guizhou Province, which is known as the hometown of folk arts of China and one of the 100 most unique museums of China. The village was proclaimed as a key heritage site under state-level protection in 2001, included in the candidate list for World Cultural Heritage nomination in 2006, awarded the title of ＂China Landscape Village＂ in 2007 and hosted Olympic torch relay in 2008. Over the past 25 years, I visited this beautiful village for more than 100 times.

Europalia.China Arts Festival to Be Opened Soon

Apress conference was recently held in Beijing, briefing the media on the upcoming Europalia.China, a grand arts gala that will last for half a year in Belgium. Vice Chinese Cultural Minister Madame Zhao Shaohua, Belgian Ambassador H.E. Patrick Nijs, senior officials from both China and Belgium as well as journalists from some 70 media organizations attended this press conference co-hosted by the Ministn/of Culture of China and the Belgian Embassy in Beijing.

Yuanmingyuan： Garden of Perfect Brightness

Yuanmingyuan, known in China as the garden of perfect brightness, is located in the western suburb of Beijing where there is rich water resources and green mountains and hills. Nanjing Fascinated by Arabic Charms

On June 27, 2006, the Arabic Arts Festival （Nanjing leg）, jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of China, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Jiangsu Provincial Culture Department and Nanjing Municipal Government, was launched in Nanjing Culture and Arts Center. The Arabic Arts Festival, the first of its kind jointly presented by 22 Arab nations in China, was a significant cultural event following the establishment of China-Arab Cooperation Forum in 2004. Major activities of the festival were presented in Beijing and as the only leg besides Beijing, Nanjing host several large-scale performances of Arabic singing and dancing arts.     

Africa Makes a Splash in Beijing

In conjunction with Beijing Summit of China-Africa Cooperation Forum, two exhibitions were presented in the National Museum of China in early November, 2006, one of coins and stamps from 48 African countries and the other of African handicrafts, to showcase African landscapesand places of historical interest and reviewing its relations with China. In addition, stamps incelebration of the historic summit were released by China Post. State Councilor Madam Chen Zhili cut ribbons to open the two exhibitions and unveiled the model of commemorative stamps.
