Decision-making model for risk management of cascade hydropower stations

In a medium-term electricity market,in order to reduce the risks of price and inflow uncertainties, the cascade hydropower stations may use the options contract with electricity supply companies. A profit-based model for risk management of cascade hydropower stations in the medium-term electricity market is presented. The objective function is profit maximization of cascade hydropower stations. In order to avoid the risks of price and inflow uncertainties, two different risk-aversion constraints: a minimum profit constraint and a minimum conditional value-at-risk, are introduced in the model. In addition, the model takes into account technology constraints of the generating units, which includes reservoir flow balance, reservoir capacity limits, water discharge constraints, etc. The model is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem. Because the search space of the solution is very large, a genetic algorithm is used to deal with the problem.

Based on minimum output energy,an improved blind multiuser detection algorithm is proposed by the use of Hopfield neural network.Compared with traditional algorithms,the proposed algorithm does not need the circuit for constraints.The resources are greatly saved and the complexity is reduced as well.The simulation results show that the performance of the improved algorithm is similar to that of the optimal multiuser detection algorithm which is not suitable for the mobile station.Compared with the traditional gradient blind multiuser detection algorithm,the convergence speed of the improved algorithm is quickened.

Option contract is one of the most important instruments for power generators developing bidding strategies and hedging market risk. Based on the peculiarities of bid-based-pool （BBP） power markets, a joint two-stage Cournot equilibrium model for option and spot markets is developed, and analytical formulas for market equilibrium are derived using a backward induction method. The impacts of option contract on efficiency of electricity markets and the behaviors of strategic generators are analyzed. The results show that strategic generators will voluntarily participate in strategic option contracting, and the existence of option contract accelerates the degree of competitive intensity in electricity markets and mitigates the market power abuse of generators to a large extent. In order to retain high spot market price and stable revenues, generators are interested in holding extremely high volatility of spot market price.

Study on determination of the stable slope configuration for deep open pit mine

The space effects of deep pit slope are analyzed by an elastic mechanics principle. The interaction among the critical slide angle, the friction coefficient, the cohesion, and the horizontal radius of the deep pits is derived in this paper. It indicates that the deeper the pit is excavated, the greater the critical slide angle is. Both the theory for reducing stripping waste rock in deep pit and the approach to determining the configuration of the stable slope are developed from the interaction. The theory in this paper comprises the preceding principles of stability analysis of slopes and is suitable for analyzing that of deep pit.

A low-sidelobe circularly-polarized （CP） microstrip patch array for 2.4 GHz radio frequency identification （RFID） readers is presented. The antenna array with a Chebyshev current distribution is composed of 6 microstrip elements. The CP operation is obtained by the quasi-square patch with difference in lengths of the two sides. The antenna has been investigated numerically and experimentally. Measured results show that the array has a Chebyshev pattern with the sidelobe level of -23 dB, the half-power beamwidth of 16° and an impedance bandwidth （S11 ≥-10 dB） of 130 MHz, which is suitable for RFID reader applications.
