The contribution of modern foreign languages to the primary school curriculum The learning of a foreign language in primary school provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for all pupils. Pupils develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning. They develop linguistic competence, extend their knowledge of how language works and explore differences and similarities between the foreign language and English. Learming another language raises awareness of th.e multilingual and multi-cultural world and introduces an international dimension to pupils' learning, giving them an insight into their own culture and those of others. One item in the questionnaire inquired whether the participants thought the NEST or the non-NEST was a better teacher. While an approximately equal number of votes went for either option (27 percent for NESTs and 29 percent for nonNESTs), 44 percent inserted “both,” an alternative which had not even been supplied in the questionnaire. The proportion of participants who chose non-NESTs as their favorites is high, especially given their linguistic inferiority. It follows from this that non-NESTs should be in possession of certain unique features that NESTs Jack. But what are they? What gives non-NESTs their competitive edge? What assets enable them to make up for their linguistic handicap?  相似文献

Many international brands have a phenomenal Chinese name which, paradoxically, comes from a rather prosaic name. The reason for this may lie in the fact that they need an outstanding translation of their names in order to be successful in international marketing.Hence the translation of brand names is an important part of the advertisement. And a good translation is expected to bridge the differences of cultures, languages, spending habits, thinking patterns, etc.  相似文献

Shen Congwen and Thomas Hardy are both known for their regional novels,Hardy for his "Wessex" novels, and Shen Congwen for his "World of Xiangxi" .Both writers display a sense of transcendence and wandering in their female characters. Both Xiao Xiao in Shen Congwen’ s Xiao Xiao and Eustacia in Hardy’ s The Return of the Native transcend the traditions and customs of their times, and experience a consequent wandering. But the ways of the two writers in presenting their heroines is quite different. While Xiao Xiao was mentally active but did nothing except follow the traditional system,Eustacia’ s thought was followed by her own words and actions.  相似文献

This paper on pedagogical training of TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) programs is based on the author's five-week study in the summer of 2008 at six Chinese universities. Based on class observations, interviews of teachers and students, and documents provided by the six universities, the author has found that their curriculum for pedagogical training is insufficient; theory and practice are often disconnected due to insufficient hands-on experience; and the training for cross-cultural communication skills needs to be improved.  相似文献

The study of categorization and prototype has been an interesting subject for the scholars in psycholinguistics. They have done different studies to investigate the reasons for the formation of the prototype in people‘s mind. Some scholars believe that cultural factors play an important role in the formation of prototype. This paper is intended to look into the categorization of the fruits in China, and the researcher hopes to get the factors which may to some extent influence their idea of typicality. The researcher believes that the regions where a person grows up in may have a subtle effect on his or her idea of typicality of certain items.  相似文献

In Western countries,WWI fostered a major change in attitude by bringing many women out of their homes into new spheres of action, and brought birth to the " new women" and the booming of feminism in United States.Bernice Bobs Her Hair, published in 1920 and collected in Flappers and Philosophers,is a well-known short story of early Fitzgerald. The two heroines-rural girl Bernice and her cousin Marjorie, who was an urban gardenia girl-both had their long beautiful hair cut passively. This paper attempts to reveal the traditional patriarchal shadow deep inside the " new women",by the analysis of psychological changes and their incentives in Bernice and Marjorie through three phases:before Bernice talking about haircut, haircut as Bernice’ s chatting topic and after haircut,to search for the real meaning of New Women, which,as the writer’ s opinion,New Women are not the females getting rid of the constraints of " angle",such as " beautiful long hair",but the females who take the responsibilities for the societies, their families and themselves based on their feminine essence.  相似文献
