The available studies in the literature on physical and mathematical modeling of the argon-oxygen decarburization(AOD) process of stainless ssteel have briefly been reviewed.The latest advances made by the author with his research group have been summarized.Water modeling was used to investigate the fluid flow and mixing characteristics in the bath of an 18t AOD vessel,as well as the “back-attack” action of gas jfets and its effects on the erosion and wear of the refractory lining,with sufficiently full kinematic similarity.The non-rotating and rotating gas jets blown through two annular tuyeres,respectively of straight-tube and spiral-flat tube type.Were employed in the experiments.The geometric similarity ratio between the model and its prototype(including the straighttube type tuyeres)was 1:3 ,The influences of the gas flow rate,the angle included between the two tuyeres and other operating parameters,and the suitability of the spiral tuyere as a practical application,were examined.These latest studies have clearly and successfully brought to light the fluid flow and mixing characteristics in the bath and the overall features of the back-attack phenomena of gas jfets during the blowing.nd have offered a better understanding of the refining process.Besides,mathematical modeling for the refining process of stainless steel was carried out and a new mathematical model of the process was proposed and developed.The model performs the rate calculations of the refining and the mass and heat balances of the system.Also,the effects of the operating factors,including adding the salg materials.crop ends,and scrap,and alloy agents;the non-isothermal conditions;the changes in the amounts of metal and slag materials,crop ends,and scrap,and alloy agents;the non-isothermal conditions;the changes in the amounts of metal and slag during the refining;and other factors were all considered.The model was used to deal with and analyze the austenitic stainless steel making (including ultra-low carbon steel) and was tested on data of 32 heats obtained in producing 304 grade steel in an 18t AOD vessel.The changes in the bath compostion and temperature during the refining process with time can be accurately predicted using this model.The model can provide some very useful information and a reliable basis for optimizing the process practice of the refining of stainless steel and control of the process in real-time and online.

Abstract

World outlook, outlook on life and values are the master switch of ideological and political education, while the first is the hub of the switch. In the actual ideological and political education, however, the education of world outlook is often blurred and faded. This paper analyzes the factors and demonstrates from both practical and theoretical perspectives the decisive role the world outlook plays in the shaping of the outlook on life and values. This paper holds that the world outlook is the foundation for the socialist core values, ideals and beliefs; only when a person establishes a scientific world outlook, can he/she understand the socialist core values properly and shape scientific ideals and beliefs. Then the paper further analyzes the content and methods for world outlook education, paying special attention to the gradual process of education from primary school to middle school to college, sticking to the educational method of from outside to inside and from shallow to the depth and the combination of the world outlook and methodology.

Discovery of ferromanganese crust boundary and its genetic and ore prospecting significance

Evidences for the existence of ferromanganese crust boundary were found for the first time during the survey of the “DA YANG YI HAO” Vessel 2003. Some typical characteristics of the boundary are summarized and the significances of the finding of the boundary are included in the genesis discussion. Ore prospecting and assessment of the crust resources are described in this paper. The morphologic and extending characteristics of the crust boundary led to the recognition of two types of crust boundary： interpenetration crust boundary and closed crust boundary. According to the distribution and types of the crust, however, the boundaries are classified into three types： the boundary between ferromanganese crust and detrital sediment, the boundary between tabular crust and seamount nodules, and the boundary between tabular crust and rudaceous crust. This study revealed that the boundary between tabular crust and nodules was not formed under different regional environments but formed under different nucleation potential barriers between different initial growth （nucleation and germination） processes and between solid rocks and loose sediments. The rudaceous crusts are controlled spatially by fracture zones and the crusts＇ boundaries are controlled by the seamount structure and landform. The discovery of the crust boundaries reveals the crust＇s ‘negative growth’ phenomena （especially for some seamount nodules）. The boundary investigation can be helpful in identifying the existence of tabular crust covered by detrital sediments and in calculating the area covered by the crust. The resource calculation error and the resource quality as well as resource exploration degree can be assessed through the survey of crust boundary.     

Social Conventions and Human Tragedy in Richard Jefferies “the Acorn Gatherer”

Social conventions sometimes are regarded as valuable treasure in some culture. But it can also lead to human tragedy. The Arti cle here tried to look into the social and religious conventions behind the human tragedy in Richard Jefferies’ short story "the Acorn Gath erer" and how those conventions and people’s belief affect the relationship between the grandmother and her grandson in the short story. The article discussed the underlying causes to the tragedy from three aspects, the outside pressure, the inner factors and the problem of the society. It attempted to explain how the social pressure influenced the attitude and action of the grandmother, how her inner belief com pelled herself to maltreat the boy and how the social convention and religious belief made the society seemingly pitiless and indifferent. It is also indicated that social and religious conventions still have a lasting effect on how people think and act in today’s world.

Principle of Coordinates Acquisition Based on Single Camera

The principle and accuracy of 3-D coordinates acquistition using one single camera and the Aided Measuring Probe(AMP0are discussed in this paper,Using one single camera and one AMP which has several embedded targets and one tip with known coordinates.the single camera‘s orientation and location can be calculated.After orientation.the global coordinate system is obtained.During measurement.the camera is fixed firstly.then the AMP is held and the feature point is touched.The camera is triggered lastly.The position and orientation of the AMP are therefore calculated from the size and position of its image on the sensor.Since the tip point of AMP has known relation with the embedded targets.the feature point can be measured.Tests show that the accuracy of length measurement is 0.2 mm and accuracy for flatness measurement in XSY-plane is 0.1mm.
