Recent calls for the development of strategic plans in African universities have been accompanied by the need to exchange experiences of what approaches can be adopted. This article analyses the steps taken by the National University of Lesotho to develop a strategic plan. Reference is made to both internal and external factors which influenced or limited the success of that process. This random assignment impact study of Big Brothers Big Sisters School-Based Mentoring involved 1,139 9- to 16-year-old students in 10 cities nationwide. Youth were randomly assigned to either a treatment group (receiving mentoring) or a control group (receiving no mentoring) and were followed for 1.5 school years. At the end of the first school year, relative to the control group, mentored youth performed better academically, had more positive perceptions of their own academic abilities, and were more likely to report having a "special adult" in their lives. However, they did not show improvements in classroom effort, global self-worth, relationships with parents, teachers or peers, or rates of problem behavior. Academic improvements were also not sustained into the second school year.  相似文献

Abstract

Accelerationism is a theoretical movement that seeks to mobilise reason and technological development as a strategy for moving beyond capitalism. The first wave of accelerationism took the effects of capitalism at their most pernicious and suggested that they have not gone far enough. More recent work has complicated this project and explored political, epistemic and aesthetic accelerations. The central push to accelerate, and therefore to manifestly alter time, has consequences in terms of how one understands temporality in education. This article outlines the development of accelerationism and examines whether this theoretical movement can aid critical analysis of the growing presence in education of commercial technology providers, new modes of data analytics, and the application of machine learning algorithms to analyse data. These developments provide a useful example in relation to which a critical question can be asked: is it possible to accelerate technological development in education separate from its capitalist development?  相似文献

近年来,大学毕业生就业难已成为全社会关注的一个热点.造成这一问题的主要原因,是现实与社会的对接不够紧密、人力资源流动出现结构性失衡、人才培养模式不尽合理、大学生择业观念存在偏差与就业市场体系不够完善等多种因素引起的结果.文章从大力发展经济,增加就业岗位;以社会需求为导向,深化高等教育体制改革;强化对大学生的就业指导,树立新的就业观念;完善促进大学生就业的社会政策和工作机制等四个方面出发,对缓解大学生就业压力,提出了设想以及一些具体的解决方法.  相似文献
