Recent years have brought emerging theoretical propositions about the nature of educational change in societies undergoing transition from socialism to market economies. Focusing particularly on the financing of education, this article examines patterns in Russia and China in the light of this literature. It shows that although transitions in the two countries have displayed major differences, they have also displayed significant similarities. These similarities have been evident despite the fact that changes in Russia and China have been made independently of each other. This has largely been because of the impact of market forces, though it has also reflected broader forces of globalisation. 相似文献

In an emerging knowledge-based economy, the rationale for how resources are organised, value is created and, in turn, how value is converted into power will change radically. Educators, in particular, can play a central role in negotiating these power shifts. This paper examines the impetus behind the shift. In so doing, production is examined as to how it creates value and how that changes our work and learning environments. Emerging definitions of education, value, labour and knowledge are discussed in light of these changes. Finally, resultant social, political, production and structural changes are examined. 相似文献

This article compares the school-level education policies of the Labour-led coalition government elected in New Zealand in late 1999 with those of New Labour in England. It illustrates that the policies being introduced by the Labour coalition have been generally less managerial and market-oriented than New Labour's even though neo-liberal pressures are likely to constrain what appears to be a shift to the left in New Zealand.
