CCTV RECORDING IN THE CLASSROOM

Much of the television work in institutions involved in teacher training is concerned with recording observation material in schools. This article outlines the various conventional methods available for recording classroom situations, discusses the problems involved and describes a portable two‐camera unit developed at Madeley College of Education specifically for classroom recording     

TORAH LITERACY IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLASSROOM

As a lover of language and literature, as a serious yet secular Jew, and as a long-time educator in Jewish schools who strives to implement the best practices possible, the author found herself in an educational trap. Typically, even in liberal Jewish practice, Written Law, i.e. the Torah, and Oral Law, i.e. the rabbinic commentaries, are tightly bound together. In educational practice, this results in introducing commentaries on a primary text far earlier than done in Language Arts studies. According to the author, students are bound by a tradition and methodology that do not serve them well, as it recognizes the text but not the reader or the context. This article grows out of a desire to break out of traditional practices and teach Torah with the contemporary awareness of reading theory, without actually breaking with tradition.     

ETHNIC CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE CLASSROOM

This article addresses the influence of White American ethnic consciousness on educators in the community college classroom. In the event that issues of a multicultural nature arise in this setting, educators may find themselves responding to the information with differing attitudes and behaviors. These varied stances may stem from the process of moving from an unresolved to a more integrative stage of ethnic consciousness. White identity stages are presented, and their implications for classroom instruction are discussed.

WITNESSING IN THE CLASSROOM: THE ETHICS AND POLITICS OF AFFECT

A bstract .  In this essay, Michalinos Zembylas explores the meaning of affect and its importance to educational efforts to create the classroom conditions necessary for students and teachers to become critical witnesses to trauma and oppression. Zembylas draws out some of the ethical and political possibilities that emerge through such efforts, and extends our thinking about the affective possibilities of witnessing . His aims are threefold: (1) to discuss the nature of affect and the affective economies of witnessing; (2) to show some of the ways in which classrooms and affect interact to produce a particular politics and ethics, especially in contexts of historical trauma; and (3) to provide a sketch of how progressive pedagogies based on witnessing can educate toward an understanding of affect that may encourage a transformative political response.     

A METHOD TO STUDY THE EFFECTS OF MEDIA IN THE CLASSROOM

In Sweden radio and television programs for educational purposes are produced by a special unit within Sveriges Radio (SR), but there is also a production unit outside the organization SR producing educational programs, in the first place for adults (TRU). In the near future these two units are to be joined into one. In the Educational Program Department of SR there is a special group concerned with research and development questions. For the time being there are four full‐time posts as researchers, and within the framework of the budget of the program department the research group has it's own budget for research and evaluation of radio and television in instruction. The aim of this internal research ‐‐ exemplified in this paper ‐ is to give producers such experience as can be of value both for the assessment of individual products and for production work in the long run.     

DELIBERATIVE DEMOCRACY IN THE CLASSROOM: A SOCIOLOGICAL VIEW

A bstract .  Contemporary philosophical and political theories place high hopes on the concept of deliberative democracy. Within educational research, there seems to be widespread agreement that if students are to be educated for deliberative democracy, actual classroom deliberation constitutes an indispensable educational tool. From the standpoint of sociology and social psychology, this assumption seems plausible but unnecessarily vague. In this essay, Wendelin Reich suggests a comprehensive list of educational aims that may be associated with deliberation before reviewing research on the concept of communicative interaction in order to evaluate how deliberation, seen as a specific form of communicative interaction, could live up to its educational aims. From this evaluation Reich deduces that the aims stand in complex and sometimes even contradictory relation to the means for achieving them and to each other. Reich concludes that more empirical research is needed to determine in which forms and contexts deliberation can best contribute to fulfilling the goal of educating democratic citizens.

翻转课堂作为一种新的教学方法,提升了学生在学习中的主体地位,但同时使课堂教学效果在更大程度上受到学生学习行为的影响.文章着眼于翻转课堂常用的分组教学这一组织形式,从社会心理学的视角研究考察学习小组中的社会懈怠和社会助长现象,并借助有关群体影响的研究,探索提高翻转课堂教学效果的有效组织形式.
