A Godfather of Soul exits world stage The music world is in mourning after one of its greatest showmen, the "Godfather of Soul" James Brown, died yesterday at 78. The R&B pioneer, whose half-century career inspired funk, disco and rap, had been admitted to hospital in Atlanta with pneumonia. He grew up in a slum and started his first group behind bars, but went on to become a huge influence on popular music in the 20th century.  相似文献

Pedagogical theory and research practice tend to confine themselves to study the cognitive aspect of a child's personality and to focus on his/her productivity, while forgetting about other dimensions. The ability to experience artistic contents and the creative capacity of our society are decreasing. People are in a continuous search for spiritual balance and therefore the task of the contemporary school is to help people get out of this crisis and pay more attention to the realization of educational tasks and goals as well as individual school subjects. Art has always played the role of purposefully influencing the experiencing, feeling, creating and enjoying of beautiful things. It therefore provides a counterbalance to the rationalized world of today. Especially music plays a special role in all periods and all human societies, however, not because it encourages various experiences or notions in the listener or a pleasant atmosphere, but because it presents a challenge to the development of spiritual perception that does not occupy an important, enough place in the present school system. Based on different historical understandings of the pedagogical value of music, the author tries to determine what pedagogical value was ascribed to music in the past and what pedagogical value it is being ascribed today  相似文献

This study presents an example of a music workshop which brought together pupils and students of different music schools, students of musicology, composition and classroom teaching, teachers, professors and composer on the common topics in contemporary music. The purpose of the workshop was to encourage an active and creative participation of everybody involved in a way that went beyond the usual practice used in cultural activities in education. In this respect, the workshop emphasised the importance of the creative expression of experience, ideas and emotions in the field of music. The results of the interview, which were conducted by some of the workshop participants, point out the complex occurrence of various indicators, which at the level of personal and social factors have determined the nature of communication through contemporary music and indirectly influenced the development of competence in cultural awareness and expression. Challenges identified included students' lack of musical experiences for contemporary music at all educational levels, the low priority given to contemporary music in schools as well as teachers' lack of professional knowledge in this field. The study highlights the need for more experience in contemporary musical language in general and music professional schools.  相似文献

The Orff music method has been internationally practiced and recognized as one of the leading music methods in the past fifty years. The success of this approach is that this method encourages all students participating in the designed music activities in the music class to interact with the teacher and other classmates using the Orff approach rather than the traditional one-way music learning approach in the traditional music classroom in Asia. While the children are situated within an environment where music activities and bodily movements are stimulated, the children's aesthetic music knowledge can be influenced significantly (Carlson, 1990). In this study, there were a total number of 180 3rd graders from three elementary schools in Taiwan who participated in this research. The control group which consisted of three classes with a total number of 90 students was the class using the traditional music method taught by a regular classroom teacher, while the experimental group, which consisted of another three classes with a total number of 90 students, was the class taught using the Orff music method by the researcher. The study was controlled in the sense that the six music classes were ascertained to be of equal ability in their understanding of music before the experimental factor was applied. As well, there were no significant differences in age or mental capacity, while the difference in genders was only minimal. The results of this research revealed that not only did the students who had the Orff music method training perform better than the traditional music method on both melodic patterns dictation and music reading tests, but the Orff training also helped the experimental students to have a solid understanding of rhythmic structures and basic music knowledge.  相似文献

Deep Concern in New Horizon College English (Reading and Writing Book1) describes a generation gap in an American family. In the text, the parents worry about their daughter’s listening to rock music for it may bring negative impact on her. Nowadays there is definitely music with unwholesome or depraved thoughts that may mislead listeners. Should people therefore refuse to listen to music or refuse the influence of music on emotion? The essay will focus on the issue to have a review on the relationship between emotion and music.  相似文献

Tibetan drama, called"Ache Lhamo"in Tibetan, is a comprehensive performing art evolved from Tibetan folk oral art, music, dance and religious rituals. For a long time, Ache Lhamo has attracted worldwide attention, it not only is one of the hot topics of Tibetan studies in China, but also attracts many scholars in other countries, including scholars in English world. In the early nineteenth century, in the western world, some scholars had mentioned Ache Lhamo in their research, Ache Lhamo story texts'translation has gradually ap- peared and recently scholars conduct academic research on Ache Lhamo, whose research findings are fruitful and meaningful. There- fore, the author chooses Ache Lhamo study in the Anglophone world as the research object. This thesis studies on the translation works and research of Ache Lhamo produced in English world based on more than 30 relevant articles and translation works. With the advan- tages of western scholars drawing on exotic cultural backgrounds and rich theoretical knowledge, they inevitably adopt western academic perspectives and methodologies. For these reasons above, this thesis attempts to utilize the variation theory to explore Ache Lhamo study in the English world.  相似文献

The Italian film The Last Emperor has strong color of post-colonialism,therefore,my paper will analyze the film from the perspective of post-colonialism.The two important terms in post-colonialism theory closely related to the film are "Orientalism",and "the other".My paper focus on analyzing the China’s image in European films from the angles of "Oriental ism" and "the other".My paper reveals that the China’s image in European films can’t break away from Orientalism, and the western world describe the oriental world according to its own imagination and think itself as a savior to the oriental world. Therefore, what we Chinese should do is being initiative to describe ourselves to shape a new image of real China.  相似文献

The term "soft power" is coined by a noted American scholar Joseph Nye. It means a nation’s ability to get others to do what it wants without either coercive military or economic pressures, or material inducements. It is the attractiveness and seduction, the resources of which include culture, values, political ideas and policies. During the past two decades, the soft power concept has gained widespread acceptance and usage. In a global information age and in a multi-polarized world, the US government has all along attached much importance to the exercise of soft power in foreign policies. It goes to great lengths to advance its universal culture and values, promote public diplomacy, and shape the world order by helping establish the international institutions and norms. The US government draws on the resources of soft power to improve the national image and thus promote its popularity across the world with a view to serving the national interests. The idea of soft power improves the traditional concept of power, enriches the practice of the US diplomacy. However, we shouldn’t fail to see that it is based on US superiority with the ultimate goal of achieving US hegemony. But still we can learn something from the concept and introduce it into our policies.  相似文献

The film Elephant is novel not only in its narrative style and abundant use of long shots, but also in its selection of two pieces of piano music. What the movie lenses hope to express is the same thing that the will of piano music does. Alex is not only a player of the two pieces of piano music but also a singer of the elephant. The thesis applies Schopenhauer’s will theory in music to analyze Alex’s song《For Elise》and《Moonlight Sonata》and to anatomize his mental activity and brewing of thought. By using the power of piano music this thesis aims at digging out how he becomes the singer of the elephant.  相似文献

The purpose of the study is to teach urban young children music concepts and English by composing creative music and songs with contrast elements. The subjects were seven urban young children aged from three to four in a Taiwan kindergarten. The duration was twenty-four weeks, with two sessions per week. The teaching contents included Hello Song, Musical Movement, Music Appreciation and Goodbye Song. The study applied the thematic music elements to the teaching content. The main methodology was a qualitative study and quantitative data used to receive objective support. Assessment included a pre-test at the beginning, a post-test and participation observation at the end of the study. The head of the kindergarten, the classroom teacher and a parent completed activity feedback forms to obtain social validity. The results show that through the use of creative music pieces of contrast and song activities, urban young children's understanding of music concepts was progressive and English ability was improved. The study findings are: (1) Using contrastive music pieces is a good method for teaching very young urban children to understand music concepts; (2) Creating simple target objective songs with contrast elements is a good way for urban young children to learn simple English; (3) Music with contrastive elements could motivate urban young children to do movement spontaneously and learn the spoken language simultaneously; and (4) Contrastive music could be used for pre-classical music learning.  相似文献

Adaptive audio watermarking based on SNR in localized regions   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
In this paper, a novel localized audio watermarking scheme based on signal to noise ratio (SNR) to determine a scaling parameter a is proposed. The basic idea is to embed watermark in selected high inflexion regions, and the intensity of embedded watermarks are modified by adaptively adjusting a. As these high inflexion local regions usually correspond to music edges like sound of percussion instruments, explosion or transition of mixed music, which represent the music rhythm or tempo and are very important to human auditory perception, the embedded watermark is especially expected to escape the distortions caused by time domain synchronization attacks. Taking advantage of localization and SNR, the method shows strong robustness against common problems in audio signal processing, random cropping, time scale modification, etc.  相似文献
