Adopting corpus-based approach, the use of copular verbs by Chinese college English learners is studied through a comparison between the COLEC and the LOCNESS. The main findings are: 1)Chinese college English learners under-use copular verbs; 2) Chinese college English learners select a limited variety of copular verbs; 3) Types of complement after most copular verbs used by Chinese college English learners lack variety; 4) Chinese college English learners use less various and more simpler complements than native speakers.  相似文献

The learning of English tenses and verbs is obviously the major and challenging part of second language learning and acquisition for Chinese students. The paper analyzes the features of simple present tense, simple past tense and verbs in them from the aspect of Sidney Greenbaum and Randolph Quirk's student grammar book as an instructive example. It is suggested that, it be meaningful and practical if the grammar rules are reflected rather in sentences or contexts than in the formula. Some possible pedagogical activities and materials are recommended to make tedious grammar learning and teaching more understandable and interesting.  相似文献

This paper presents an analysis result of three-dimensional meshing of crown gear coupling (CGC) surfaces of crown gear and internal gear are established. The equation of internal gear surface is given. The equation of conjugate surface of crown gear is solved according to the principle of gearing, and that of non-conjugate crown gear is derived with crown curve of a circular arc. The meshing state of conjugate and non-conjugate surfaces is analyzed through computation of contact lines and points. It is concluded that the meshing of conjugate CGC is line-contact, there are several pairs of teeth engage simultaneously, and non-conjugate CGC has point-contact condition of meshing and only 2 pairs of teeth engage in theory.  相似文献

Skills for Translating Onomatopoeia in English Poems aims for a better comprehension of translating skills for onomatopoeia in English poems. By introducing the definition of onomatopoeia, it proposes several methods of translating onomatopoeia. It suggests, it’s better to keep the part of speech of onomatopoeia when translate an English poem for fully expressing the meaning of the original author;or change the part of speech of onomatopoeia if it is necessary, which are definitely explained by methods and examples including turning nouns into verbs, turning verbs into nouns and turning adjectives into verbs. This study attempts to examine the colligational use of the high-frequency verbs DO, HAVE and BE in Chinese EFL learners’written production in the CIA (Contrastive Interlanguage Analysis) approach. Findings of the study indicate that: Chinese learners use a much smaller variety of colligational patterns, they tend to underuse the inflected forms of these verbs in their colligations and they tend to use pronouns as the subject of these verbs. Though at advanced level, they still have difficulty with grammar in terms of tense, aspect and voice. The influence of L1 transfer, the learners’spoken style in writing, the classroom teaching and the learners’use of the avoidance strategy are thought to be the major reasons. The findings in this study may have some light to shed on the EFL teaching and research in China.  相似文献

A verb plays an vital role in a sentence, therefore the study of this perspective attracts numerous scholars. Particularly, corpus-based study has increasing attention in recent years. The present study chooses the THROW verbs in both English and Chi?nese as the subject. The author applies"collocated"function or"pattern query"in two corpus, then analyzes the distinctions of the semantic collocation of the THROW verbs. This study sheds light on the role of computerized Arabic language technologies in e-learning. Examples of these technologies are the grammar and spelling proofing tools, which can be used to indirectly teach Arabic to the users of such computer tools. Users of Arabic grammar proofing computer tools employ them to achieve correct Arabic sentences in Arabic processing programs. The proofing tools' role ends when they accomplish their regular tasks of proofing grammar and spelling of the Arabic text. This study, however, aims for the proofing tools to transcend their usual role into taking part in teaching Arabic grammar to their users. The study explores the function of the proofing tools, and introduces the most famous Arabic grammar and spelling proofing tools. The paper then elaborates the basic tasks of proofing applications, and further reflects how these applications can be used to teach Arabic to Arab users. The method used here is highlighting a set of the most common grammar and spelling mistakes corrected by such tools. Among the common mistakes are: confusing the glottal stop Hamza to the long vowel /a:/-Aleph as the initial letter of words, and the Arabic Ta ( )-a voiceless/t/to the fricative ( ) /h/as the ending letter of some Arabic words. Users also sometimes mistake the diphthong/aj/to the vowel/a/both written using the Arabic letter "Ya", and are confused by the "Irab" (the system of nominal and adjectival suffixes of Arabic) of the duals, sound masculine plurals, verbs in the present tense, conjugation of the five verbs, and verbs in the imperative form. The new mechanism proposed highlights additional tasks to the proofing tools, which may develop the Arabic e-learning techniques, including: underlining and analyzing the error, pointing out the grammatical rules on the issue in question, citing old Arabic texts and highlighting the word in question, documenting the grammar rule from Arabic references, linking the common mistakes together, whether of the same user, or all Arab users, and notifying the user that he/she has repeated this mistake.  相似文献
