“The Image of China： Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Painting and sculpture” was recently on view at the National Art Museum of China, following its display at the Grand Palace in Paris this March, as an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic ties. The exhibition displays contemporarv works by 61 Chinese ink painters and 21 sculptors, representing the greatest achievements o[ the Chinese art communitv and dynamics of contemporary China.

Pan Yuliang＇s Damaged Oil Paintings Restored Successfully

Editor＇s note： In June 2005, Director of Anhui Provincial Museum Hu Xinmin announced, “After seven months of hard work done by experts across the Taiwan Straits led by Taiwanese oil restoration expert Li Fuchang, 108 damaged oil paintings out of the museum＇s whole collection of Pan Yuliang＇s 361 oil paintings have been successfully restored in Hefei. We will select some one hundred oil works of her and display them next year in Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung. This exhibition will serve as a bridge facilitating cross-straits cultural exchange.”     

A School on Roof

March 23, Wednesday, Wuhan. It was a raining and cloudy day. One month passed but still more than 20 students had yet registered in Lingzhi Elementary School in Jianghan District, Wuhan, capital city of central Hubei Province. Zhu Zhongfan habitually looked out to the stairway of the building. “Whenever a new semester begins, a dozen of students will not come. They either go back to their hometowns or transfer to other school or even drop out.” Zhu, 49 years old, is the headmaster of the school. He began teaching at 19 and founded this school in 1999. Currently, there are 406 registered students, most of which are children of migrant workers from the countryside. As it is extremely hard to find a cheap place for school, Zhu had to locate his school on the roof of a vegetable fair building. Everyday, student‘s reciting of textbooks mixes with shouting of vendors, orchestrating unique symphonic melodies.

March 5, 2008 marked the 110th anniversary of late Premier Zhou Enlai＇s 110th birth anniversary. Zhou Enlai was a great Marxist and outstanding revolutionary. As a major member of the first generation of the leadership of Chinese Communist Party and the People＇s Republic of China, he devoted all his life to his beloved motherland and people. He enjoyed widespread respect among Chinese people of all ethnic groups and his lofty spirit and personality have been considered valuable assets in the history of Chinese nation. On the occasion of his 110th birth anniversary commemorative events were launched nationwide.

March of 2006 marks the tenth anniversary of Global Village of Beijing, an environmental non-profit NGO founded by Liao Xiaoyi. Government and Bank Collaborate to Support Cultural Industries
On March 10, the Ministry of Culture of China （MOC） and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China （ICBC） signed a strategic cooperation agreement in supporting cultural industries. Cultural Minister Cai Wu and ICBC Chairman Jiang Jianqing attended the signing ceremony. According to this agreement, MOC and ICBC will abide by the principle of＂conducting long-term cooperation, supplementing each other＇s advantages and promoting common development＂ in order to encourage the development of cultural industries of China.     

Top-class Exhibitions Kick off the Year of China

Splendor of the Han,Rise of the Celestial Empire Han Dynasty artifacts on display at Guimet Museum,Paris

The exhibition “Splendor of the Han, Rise of the Celestial Empire” opened at Guimet Museum on October 21, 2014 as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China- France diplomatic relations. This is the largest exhibition on Chinese antiquities ever held in France since the Year of Chinese Culture in 2004. With many exquisite exhibits on view, inchtdingjade, bronze and pottery, the exhibition aims to present a panoramic view of the Han Dynasty, a united and open empire of cultural confidence and ethnic diversity existing 2,000 years ago. Refined and Elegant： Masterpieces of Suzhou-style Embroidery

＂Birds Perching at Winter Sweet＂ is an exquisite embroidery work, The work features a vigorous and straight trunk of the winter sweet, shone by plum blossoms and with a pair of birds perching at the branches. The embroidered work was based on one of the ink paintings by Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song Dynasty [960-1127] which is now collected in the Palace Museum in Taipei. The emperor is an accomplished artist skilled in painting and calligraphy.
