Many individuals enter administration not fully prepared for their roles. This is because many preparatory programs have persistent weaknesses in the linkage between theory and practice, are irrelevant and grossly inadequate for the current responsibilities of the principalship, and overlook teaching the social realities of administrative roles. Along with aligning administrative programs with standards of effective leadership, the social side of administration must be considered and addressed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Given the absence of a chronology of the historical philosophies, perspectives, and practices of recruitment within the higher education institutions in the United States, the authors have assembled an overview of the material on recruitment strategies and ideologies of American higher education institutions. Literature from and about the past aids in illuminating the current context while helping to navigate the future of higher education recruitment. The authors have identified five general periods: prior to 1920, 1921 to the end of the Second World War, the post-War decade, mid-1950s through the 1970s, and 1980s to the present. Documentation for each period varies significantly in quality and amount, with the densest data found for the two later periods. Future researchers may explore how recruitment practices and language encourage or discourage under-represented populations in higher education. Further research in other areas of educational recruitment is also suggested.  相似文献

多样化是高等教育发展的根本趋势和基本历史走向。高等教育多样化的核心内涵和根本特征在于其功能的多样化。这在高等教育发展史中表现为,(1)通过高等教育组织机构的多样化,推动、促进高等教育功能类型的增加;(2)通过高等教育融资渠道的多样化,推动、促进高等教育功能强度的增强。多样化有助于高等教育的合法化存在和发展,但是,它也有其效用限度,即多样化无法解决高等教育功能结构的优化和合理化问题。为此,必须以可持续发展的思想和原则为指导,坚持高等教育的多样化发展与政府的宏观统筹、集中调控之间的辩证统一。  相似文献

In the history of education, every generation brings forth someone who has a lasting impact on the current and future generations of educators. Ralph Winfred Tyler was one of those people. His life spanned nearly the entire 20th century, and his concepts of curriculum and instruction transcended this long and fruitful existence. They are found today embedded in the accountability and reform movements. 新中国成立初期,党在教育领域提出了"教育为人民服务"的思想。其涵义主要有三:工农是服务的核心;工农是受教育的主体;国家经济建设是服务的方向。所以提出这一思想,根本原因在于当时教育的状况,其中最主要的是高等教育的现状与实现为人民服务的要求相去太远。为此在高等教育领域采取了倾斜招生政策、解决实际困难、创办新型大学和改造师生思想等措施,以落实"教育为人民服务"这一思想。  相似文献

This article emphasises two major themes that address the influence of the Asian American Movement: (1) encouraging students to broaden the discourse on race and ethnic relations by redefining categories and challenging prevalent assumptions; (2) an increased tolerance and frequency in course offerings that examine and centralise the histories, literature and political underpinnings of Asian Americans and ethnic (i.e. Japanese) specific communities, which has equipped students to engage in discourse and community action. How to improve students' understanding of energy transformation and conservation remains one of the main challenges of energy teaching. To address this challenge, we developed a new teaching strategy suited to high school based on history and philosophy of science (HPS). It involves five key ingredients: study and reproduction of Joule's paddle-wheel experiment, introduction of Rankine's definition, study of a historical text of Joule, use of an “ID card of energy,” and early introduction and multiple application of the principle of energy conservation. This strategy was built and implemented in the frame of a collaborative and iterative work involving researchers and teachers. We examined the effects of this HPS-based teaching strategy on students' understanding of energy. We used a quantitative method based on pre- and post-tests (N = 95/87) completed by a qualitative analysis using both video recordings of classroom activities and videos produced by students during one of the teaching sequences. The outcomes show that the teaching strategy had an overall positive impact on students' learning of energy: in particular, Joule's paddle-wheel experiment seems to favor their understanding of the notion of energy transformation, while the early introduction and multiple application of the conservation principle appears as a relevant option to facilitate its mastering. This study illustrates how HPS might actually be introduced in classrooms and brings to light its usefulness for building new science teaching strategies.  相似文献

通过对欧洲大学史研究相关成果的梳理,本文把欧洲大学史的研究史划分为萌芽和起步、初步发展和专门的学科领域三个阶段。三个阶段的特征分别为:描述记录式研究、理性批判式研究和多维阐释性研究。我们应该借鉴欧洲大学史的研究,加强我国大学和高等教育等方面的相关史料建设,广泛吸取各学科史、专门史的研究者从多个角度对我国大学史和高等教育史进行研究。  相似文献

A preoccupation with technology has helped bury the philosophical question: What is the point of education? I attempt to answer this question. Various answers to the question are surveyed and it is shown that they depend upon different conceptions of the self. For example, the devotional‐self of the 12th century (which was about becoming master of the self) gave way to the liberal‐self (which was to facilitate social change). Education can only be satisfactorily justified, I argue, by appeal to transcendent values such as mastery of the self, which is incipient in liberal education.  相似文献
