An Experiment in Developing Critical Thinking in Children

A three week experiment was conducted comparing the academic achievement of pupils in five classrooms (N = 108) taught in small cooperative groups against that of pupils from five classes (N = 109) taught in the traditional whole-class approach. Special achievement tests were prepared for each grade level, two through six. These tests were constructed with items requiring responses at low and high levels of cognitive functioning. Pupils in grades two, four, and six from small-group classrooms excelled on high level items as predicted. Pupils in the fifth grade produced superior answers on questions requiring original contributions. Achievement scores of both groups did not differ on items measuring low level cognitive functioning.

批判性思维是一个大学生最为典型的认知性功能之一，是其应该具备的思维元素和社会生存之道，同时也是今天民主社会必需的一项政治素质。要让学生在一个文化多元的社会环境中形成并保持文化自觉的习惯，并对其它文化有批判扬弃的信心和能力，就应该在大学教学中强调对学生批判性思维的培养，使大学教学充满批判性的理性色彩，充满思想的张力和思维的冲击，让大学成为一个讲究学术自由、独立思考的精神家园。     

英语写作课堂上学生思辨能力的培养途径研究

英语专业学生的思辨能力水平偏低,在写作中体现得更为明显。针对英语专业学生思辨能力匮乏这一现状,有关专家学者进行了多项研究,并分析了培养学生思辨能力的路径和方法。笔者认为写作课堂中对学生思辨能力的培养可以从以下几个方面进行改革:优化课程设置,改革教学方法,改进评价体系,培养教师思辨能力。     

Developing Critical Thinking in Undergraduate Courses: A Philosophical Approach

This paper is centred on twentieth century philosophers of science. I will examine how they have influenced current physics educational research by others and myself. I will also examine how I have introduced a study of these philosophers in several courses including the calculus-based introductory physics course on optics and modern physics. Students study one philosopher all semester as a group project and report regularly on how their philosopher would view the subject matter of the course. As a consequence of this use of philosophers of science, the students seem to have made a marked improvement in their critical thinking skills and in their grasp of the underlying concepts of the subject matter of the courses.

Critical Events in Education

From time to time, education is marked by critical events. In contrast to routine processes and any gradual cumulation of learning, these bring radical change in both pupils and teachers. They also have a confirmatory and preservation function in sustaining teachers’ beliefs, interests and commitment, and aiding strategic redefinition. They could have a wider influence through a ‘community of interactive professionals’. The critical events studied are marked by constructivist learning theory and relationships that generate distinct forms of communitas. They go through fairly well‐defined stages from initial conceptualisation to final celebration, with a rhythm of learning between structure and freedom developing. The conditions favourable to the occurrence of critical events include legitimation within the curriculum structure, a facilitative school ethos and, above all, a critical agent.     

Controlling for Background Beliefs When Developing Multiple-Choice Critical Thinking Tests

This paper describes briefly a methodology for developing multiple-choice critical thinking tests which attempts to overcome certain problems of validity and fairness facing such tests. The paper proposes that direct evidence on test validity be gathered using verbal reports of students' thinking on trial items.     

大学英语口语课中批判性思维的培养

在翻转课堂教学模式下,阅读的第一、二层次通过学生课前观看微课件完成,学生在课堂上通过协作学习,对文本进行分析、综合和评价,训练思辨能力。研究结果证实了翻转课堂教学模式下的批判性阅读教学能促进外语专业学生写作中思辨能力的提高。因此改革教学模式,调整课程设置和教学内容有助于英语专业学生思辨能力培养。

物理专业毕业生课堂教学能力的现状调查与思考

本文根据基础教育新课程对教师的课堂教学能力提出的新要求,对物理专业 120 名应届本科毕业生的课堂教学能力进行了调查,分析了毕业生的优势与不足。针对课堂教学中存在的问题,提出了一些提高学生课堂教学能力的建议。
