The National Information Center on Health Services Research and Health Care Technology (NICHSR), located at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), mounted a database called Health Services Technology Assessment Research (HSTAR). HSTAR pulls together a number of online resources which cover topics such as clinical practice guidelines, technology assessments, and clinical trials. Abstract

The paper describes succinctly the historical development of Indian health science libraries. With this background it illustrates the outcome of a study conducted for the purpose of assessing the strengths and weaknesses of prevalent health literature information services such as bibliographical, current awareness, selective dissemination of information, MEDLARS/MEDLINE, indexing and abstracting, translation and reprographic of 240 medical libraries belonging to modern medicine (allopathy system) and recommends the suitable steps to be undertaken to optimize the utilization of available resources and services.  相似文献

The origins and functions of the World Health Organization (WHO) Library and the global, regional, and national objectives of the WHO Health Literature Services Program (HLSP) are reviewed. WHO is an aggregate of nations and not a supra-national body. With limited resources and unlimited needs, HLSP is involved in surveys, training, regional medical libraries, national and regional networks, bibliographic services and document delivery, promotion, coordination, and communication. The basic concept of HLSP eschews internationally-conceived, self-contained technical projects in favor of broad programs based on national planning. Small rural centers receive more attention than large urban hospitals, and preventive medicine together with health education and community involvement are of more immediate concern than curative medicine. National self-reliance implies national initiative but not necessarily national self-sufficiency. Recent planning and implementation of HLSP activities are described.  相似文献

CrossRef ( http://www.crossref.org/ ) is an association of scholarly publishers that develops shared infrastructure to support more effective scholarly communications. In May 2014, CrossRef launched CrossRef Text and Data Mining Services for its members. This article covers the thinking behind CrossRef launching this service, and the particular problems it aims to address around the collection of full‐text content for the purposes of text and data mining (TDM). It explains the technical aspects of the service for researchers and lets publishers know what they need to provide to CrossRef in order to participate and how to do so. It will also describe the pilot of CrossRef's TDM Services, and information on publisher uptake since the launch and how this can be measured, and the costs for joining or using the service.  相似文献

Technology makes it possible for library users to ask reference questions using e-mail or forms on the web and for librarians to conduct reference interviews using chat or videoconferencing software. This article explores each of these technologies and their current and potential use in reference services. This paper highlights Tanzania efforts in the development of ICT infrastructure for libraries and other information services since the 1980s. It notes progress in this area and relates it to the liberalization policies adopted by the country in 1986 and formulation of the 1985 science and technology policy of Tanzania. Other efforts include the formation of Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH). It is argued, however, that there is a need for a comprehensive national information policy which is non-existent at the moment.  相似文献

[目的/意义]针对当前科技信息服务生态系统研究的不足,借鉴自然生态系统健康理论,从信息生态视角,构建科技信息服务生态系统健康评价体系,引导科技信息服务生态系统稳定、健康发展。[方法/过程]基于文献调研和专家访谈,结合科技信息服务生态系统的健康特征,构建科技信息服务生态系统健康评价体系。采用网络层次分析法(Analytic Network Process,ANP)对各指标的相对重要性权重进行估计。通过访谈、问卷调查收集数据,采用多层次模糊综合评价法进行实证研究。[结果/结论]结果表明活力是最关键的准则维度。运用ANP与多层次模糊综合评价法构建科技信息服务生态系统健康评价体系和权重估计具有较好的适用性,可以为完善科技信息服务功能、优化科技信息服务生态系统结构提供指导与借鉴,促进科技信息服务生态系统稳定、健康的发展。  相似文献
