Creating an English Environment to Foster the Students’ Ability in Communicating

English is becoming more and more important in communicating as the further development of the reform and opening up. We English teacher should try our best to create and arrange a kind of language environment according to our students’ practical life in order to improve and enhance their interest in English studying, to encourage them to practice English during their daily life and to cultivate their ability to communicate in English.     

Puppets in science lessons Experiences and stories from Norwegian teachers who are using puppets

Ten teachers, from preschool to secondary school have tried out puppets as a stimulus in science lessons. Data were gathered by teachers answering a questionnaire and by interviewing the teachers. We report what teachers have experienced by using puppets in science classrooms and in science activities in preschools. Data indicate that the puppet can be used to stimulate science both in preschool, primary school and secondary school. Probably the puppet must be used in different ways in preschool and primary school than in secondary school to get the pupils to accept them. This pilot study has given us courage and ideas to start a following-up study in using puppets in science.     

Academicians＇ self-efficacy in the application of TEC learning curriculum instructional design in Malaysian public tertiary education

This research is attempted to examine universities＇ academic staffs＇ curriculum instructional design in the teaching and learning process in applying the technology enhanced classroom （TEC） learning. The universities have embarked on a costly project to create an innovative and creative learning and teaching environment to promote and establish a state-of-the-art, smart, efficient, effective and high quality education. The teaching and learning culture of universities have great influence on determining the level of students＇ achievement. Seven dimensions of public universities in Malaysia were examined to determine the percentage of academic staffs＇ self-efficacy in the application of TEC learning. There is a significant difference among factors concerning the academic staffs＇ self-efficacy in their teaching and learning processes in the classroom management. Their self-preparedness in using the provided technology is closely related to the experiences and practicality of the teaching materials. This study represents an addition to the extant literature on universities＇ academic staffs＇ self-efficacy in the application of TEC learning. Academic staffs＇ self-efficacy in using TEC learning instructional design is of the utmost important to disseminate knowledge to students, which will also fully help utilize the government＇s effort in providing technology to the additional instructional design, so as to achieve high quality education and technological enhance education to pave the way to achieve a techno-education environment for all public universities in Malaysia. This study provides furtber groundwork to assist existing tertiary educational managers to improve smart teaching and learning environment and to retain high quality academic staffs in the day-to-day classroom curriculum.     

Designing an English Writing Center in China

Recognizing the benefits of writing centers in improving students'English writing in western countries, some research?ers have begun to investigate the possibility of the writing center approach applied to Chinese higher education. In the study, I con?structed an interview study with American and Chinese writing instructors and tutors to find the features of writing centers in west?ern culture and to compare the different writing values in Chinese and American cultures.The interviews reveal that the philosophy of writing centers in western culture is to"walk students through writing process"and help students to"transfer knowledge in long term use". The investigation of the writing instruction in the Chinese university shows that students are encouraged to express themselves and to conduct more group work, which is highly valued in western culture. Based on the literature and data analysis, the author argues that it's feasible to implement a writing center in China.     

A Brief Study On Uyghur Teachers’ Code-switching In English Classroom

Generally speaking,code-switching is a common phenomenon in language contact,both in bilingual and multilingual environment.It refers to circumstances in which a speaker uses two or more than two language varieties.Teacher code-switching,is a quite common occurrence in English classrooms.This study intends to investigate into Uyghur teachers’ code-switching in English classrooms.This research concludes that the teachers’ code-switching plays a complementary and facilitative part in English classrooms.It is necessary to switch from English to Chinese,English to Uyghur to explain grammar and usage of words,and classroom management.

Improving Oral English in Break Time in Junior High School

Teachers have been paying more attention to oral English teaching in junior high school than ever before. Generally, teachers focus on teaching oral English in class, where they give preeminence to creating an environment in the classroom which approximates to the"real-life"communicative use of language (Yang Chaochun & Cheng Lian 2005). However, there are some limits teaching oral English in class. This essay puts forwards to provide input during the break time for students to acquire oral English unconsciously in junior high school to make up for the insufficiency.     

Reporting Verbs in Agricultural Science Research Articles

Selection of an appropriate reporting verb and its tense & voice in a particular context is one of the best ways for the writer to present his work appropriately and to communicate effectively with others in the academic community.Previous studies on reporting verbs varied from sample to discipline,however,to my knowledge,no study has specifically addressed the question of whether there is tense and voice variation of reporting verbs in research articles in Introduction and Discussion in agricultural context.The present study is an attempt to investigate the tense and voice variation of reporting verbs and looks for explanations based on 30 agricultural science research articles.Results showed that no predominant tense choice was found in Introduction while simple past tense and present perfect tense were two tense preferences in Discussion.Active voice was found to be predominant in Introduction whereas passive voice was found to be predominant in Discussion.     

My School Rules

In our school,we have many rules.We shouldn’t be late for school.We have to wear school uniforms to go to school from Monday to Friday.We can’t run and shout in the hallways.We can’t eat in class.We should listen to the teachers carefully in class.We are not allowed to bring mobile phones to school.We aren’t supposed to drink and smoke.What’s more,We are not allowed to have long hair,wear shorts and slippers in summer.     

Cooperative Learning in Oral English Classroom Teaching in Higher Vocational Education

Cooperative learning in spoken English teaching process occupies an important position.It is a relatively new teaching method to provide students with more opportunities to speak English,to reduce the tension of the students,to enhance the enthusiasm of the students to participate in the oral group activities,and to improve the students’ English speaking ability significantly.Cooperative learning has been widely used in teaching practice,but in spoken English classroom teaching,it is not be used completely.     

Exploration and Practice of Improving College Students’ Speaking Competence through Group Discussion

The aim of English teaching is not only to make the students learn new words and grammar, answer multiple-choice questions to get good scores, but also to enhance the students’abilities of the integrated application of English, speaking and listening in particular. The ultimate goal of learning English is to use English to communicate with others in the future jobs and real life. However, the non-English majors have great trouble speaking English in class and in real life. Such ways as Socratic dialogues, cause analysis and questionnaire are used to investigate the reasons. In order to improve speaking ability, group discussion is used in class. In consequence, the students have more interest, motivation, courage and confidence in speaking English. Meanwhile, they have also established the concept of using what they learned in class, in practical work and real life.     

The Application of Game Teaching Method in Spoken English Teaching in Primary School

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the present situation of game teaching method in primary school,to find out the problems in the application of game teaching method and to forward the corresponding solutions.From the current development of English education,it has become a development trend to add games in teaching,Therefore,the paper advocates that English teach?ers in primary school use game teaching method to stimulate students’interest in learning spoken English.This thesis consists of three parts.Chapter one is an analysis the concept of game teaching method.Chapter two describes and analysis the problems in spoken English teaching in primary school.The final chapter puts forward some principles and measures to help primary school English teachers to improve students’spoken English ability.     

On Creating Authentic Communicative Situations in Classroom Instruction

The traditional method for classroom instruction in China is teacher-centered and exam-oriented,which results in students’ misunderstanding the information given by the teacher and poor ability in using English.This essay focuses on how to create communicative situations to develop students’ oral skill.Some pratical and effective suggestions are given in the essay to help English teachers in China to achieve this goal.     

University teachers＇ approaches to teaching and their pedagogical use of ICTs： A comparative case study of Finland,Japan and India

The purpose of this study was to explore what salient characteristics can be found in some university teachers＇ approaches to teaching in Finland, Japan and India, and in what ways university teachers in Finland, India and Japan use ICTs （information and communication technologies） in their own teaching. Furthermore, this study aimed to investigate what ICT applications these same teachers use in their teaching. The data were collected via an electronic survey and interviews. The participants （N=21） were university teachers from Finland （N=8）, Japan （N=I0） and India （N=3）. Their approaches to teaching were explored by applying the ATI （approaches to teaching inventory） and its modified version focusing on the use of ICTs in teaching. The study reported in this paper was a pilot study, thus the results are based on the limited number of respondents. The ATI and ATI ICT subscales and ICT inventory applied in this study have been confirmed to be valid. The university teachers in Japan and Finland differed in their approaches to teaching： The Finnish teachers scored higher on the CCSF （conceptual change orientated, student-focused） approach to teaching than the Japanese teachers, while the Japanese teachers scored higher on the ITTF （information transmitting, teacher-focused） approach to teaching. Two Indian teachers were classified as having a teacher-focused approach to teaching, while the third was classified as having a student-focused approach to teaching. The teachers＇ differences in their use of ICTs related more to their disciplinary status than to their cultural background.     

The Application of TBL Using Role Play to Introduce Vocabulary in China’s Private Language School

A specific application of task-based learning in teaching vocabulary to young learners and a complete task cycle using role play to present vocabulary in China’s private language school would be described in the study. The participants aged between 7 and 9 are thought to be starters according to their language competence in Common European Framework of Reference for language. The rationale for stages in the task cycle will be fully explored with reference to Piaget and Vygotsky’s theory in teaching young learners. The advantages of the adoption of TBL with young learners will be illustrated and some possible problems in implementing TBL in China, a representative country of Confucian-heritage culture would also be discussed in the paper. The study indicates that young learners in China are quite welcome this new approach in their English classes, but the targeted learners’ age and background information need to be taken into consideration when actually implement this approach.

As a matter of fact,most students have serious trouble in pronunciation before entering college due to their enjoying involving in reading comprehension for English silently in their spare time. Teachers in college trust their students who have the ability to pronounce precisely any English so that they ignore seriously to enhance their basic value of the perfect and standard speech sounds. Teachers believe the acceptable pronunciation is the best way to learn foreign language. It gives a comprehensive opinion on phonetics during the process of learning EFL in college in order to potentially impede that teachers in college recognize its basic and important position so that they can help their students improve the ability of pronouncing to practice 5 advanced skills.     

Potential Use of Course Management Systems in Higher Education Institutions in Jordan

Given the increased adoption of the CMS （course management systems） as an instructional tool, it is important to address the potential use of this technology in Jordanian higher education institutions. This study investigates the potential to use CMS tools in instruction in the academic institutions in Jordan. This study does not seek to evaluate the current use of computer mediated tools or their features in instruction. Its purpose is to investigate what is currently taking place with CMS in higher education settings. Therefore, the study does not seek to determine the value that the use of the CMS tools may have contributed to instruction, however, it identifies the level of technology integration as well as the level of the technology use in higher education and problems associated with its use among the faculty. This study identifies prevalent faculty attitudes and perceptions toward the potential use of CMS tools in higher education institutions, in general, and in Jordan, in particular.
