Recent technological advancements in data storage and processing have changed how companies conduct their business. An increasing number of firms have started putting their efforts in extracting information from their databases to improve profitability and reduce costs using quantitative approaches. Thus, the job market has been experiencing a rapidly growing demand for business analytics (BA) practitioners, and universities across the globe are increasingly responding to this newly emerged field by offering both undergraduate and graduate level degrees as well as certificate programs. Thus, this research aims to provide a framework for academic institutions to develop a state‐of‐the‐art master's in business analytics (MSBA) curriculum by identifying concepts, skills, knowledge, and tools (CSKT) that industry seeks in BA practitioners. Our data‐driven methodology utilizes peer institution analysis, indeed.com web scraping, and focus group analysis with mid‐ and senior‐level analytics leaders from major companies. Action learning in a workplace context, focused on projects relating to real business needs, is the basis of the management seminars offered by the BOSNO (in Dutch, ‘BedrijfsOpleiding voor Samenwerkende Nederlandse Ondernemingen’[Company training for Dutch companies working in cooperation with each other]) consortium in The Netherlands. In the seminars, managers from participating companies work in teams on multiple‐step problem analysis and solution strategies, supported by workplace coaches. The teams also interact with each other so that peer learning is stimulated. To extend the BOSNO management seminar model in both depth and flexibility, a new approach called e‐BOSNO was designed in which a web‐based learning support environment played a critical role. This paper describes the e‐BOSNO design process and gives results from the first cycle of e‐BOSNO. The results showed the participants to be much more active and interactive than in previous e‐BOSNO seminars, even though there were fewer face‐to‐face meetings. Workplace‐oriented learning occurred and was shared in a way which makes it available for reuse in subsequent e‐BOSNO seminars.  相似文献

We are experiencing a significant shift in management practices—moving from intuition, experience, and gut‐feeling driven decision‐making to one that is driven by data, evidence, and computational sciences. This shift, which is often called the analytics revolution, is not only changing the business landscape from a practical perspective but also redefining the white‐collar job market. The goal of this study is to employ a data‐ and analytics‐driven approach to analyze a large and feature‐rich dataset (which is composed of the recent job postings and the extant published literature) to characterize the state of the current business job market, especially to magnify the analytics related features and expectations including the geographic (i.e., local vs. global) differentiators. Using several graphical and tabular representations, in this paper we report on our thought‐provoking findings that collectively illustrate the changing face of knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the current local and global business job markets.  相似文献

Even in a U. S. economy that is suffering from falling productivity rates, declining market share, and continuing trade balance deficits, some businesses are successful. This article describes some strategies these companies have adopted to stay competitive. What sets the productive companies apart is their ability to shift rapidly to new ways of doing business. In making such transitions, the successful companies recognize that, while machinery and equipment are important factors in winning the race for productivity improvement and global competitiveness, the most important factor is the effort made by human beings. We suggest that since the improvement of human performance is the concern of performance technologists, they should be contributing to the competitiveness of their own and their clients' organization. This article gives examples of innovations that have restored companies to competitiveness and suggests ways that performance technologists can prepare themselves to assist their own companies and clients to introduce similar innovations.  相似文献

为培养出更多符合社会需要的商务英语人才,分别采用发放问卷、电话访谈、召开座谈会等方式对广东工贸职业技术学院商务英语专业2010—2012届毕业生以及他们的用人单位进行了"商务英语人才需求与培养质量"调查.调查结果表明,社会对于商务英语人才的需求量在总体上升,对人才质量要求也在提高.但目前用人单位具体需求与商务英语专业学生的能力表现仍有一定的出入和矛盾.基于调查,提出了推进教学改革、调整课程设置、注重素质教育的应对措施.  相似文献

股票市场是发达市场经济的产物,它的发展需要以社会化的融资需求、高度发展的信用水平、产权清晰的股份公司为基础。中国股票市场是在由计划经济向市场经济转轨的过程中,在市场发育的基础条件不具备的背景下,政府出于为国有企业筹集资金与转换经营机制目的建立起来的,股票市场具有强外生特点。强外生的股票市场对政府行为产生了强烈的内生需求,政府也提供了明显向国有企业倾斜的制度安排。政府设计制度,导致国有企业的股票发行重数量、轻业绩,并且,政府以不严格监管作为隐性担保满足国有企业上市筹资的行为偏好;在再融资环节不断降低发行要求,为国有企业配股或增发股票开了绿灯;在退市环节搞"拉郎配",为国有上市公司提供了保护伞。当发行公司"领悟"到政府行为的这一特点时,与政府展开博弈,博弈的均衡结果是政府放松监管,绩差公司发行股票。研究中国股票市场政府与上市公司的行为博弈,规范政府行为,对于进一步健全、完善中国股票市场具有重要意义。  相似文献

This paper uses one national case to illustrate how diverse ideological agendas of central state agencies contest the discursive space within which major education policy reforms are developed. In Aotearoa New Zealand in 1988, ‘self‐managed’ schools were promoted ostensibly to allow parents more say in their children’s education and local school administration. The Tomorrow’s Schools reform policy texts included an existing social democratic partnership rhetoric, positioning principals as professional leaders working collaboratively with elected parent boards of trustees. However, the new ideology of ‘parental choice’ of school within a local schooling marketplace, underpinned by a chief executive or market managerial model of principalship, was later operationalised through mechanisms of ‘steerage’ from the centre. To explain this shift, we examine selected policy text pre‐cursors to the reforms and identify how contrasting forms of ‘principal’ and ‘teacher’ identity emerged within social democratic, neo‐liberal and market managerial ideologies. We further show that while radical (Treasury) market liberal arguments for labour market deregulation and consumer choice failed to gain widespread support, the State Services Commission preferred market managerialist strategies for promoting public accountability of schools (based on aggregate student achievement outcome data and centrally determined national educational priorities) were successfully embedded during the 1990s.  相似文献

In this article I use the concept of ‘re‐agenting’ to explore and explain the role of non‐state agencies, principally private companies and business entrepreneurs, as key instruments in the government’s transformation of the school system in England. Their role takes both for‐profit and not‐for‐profit forms. The outsourcing to private companies of the implementation of government education policies and the delivery of educational services to schools and local authorities has created a profitable market. Equally significant is the growing involvement of the private sector in schools through the sponsorship of specialist schools and Academies on a non‐profit basis.  相似文献

In coping with the challenges of globalization, various reform measures, in the field of social policy, have been initiated in post‐Mao China. Strategies such as privatization, marketization, commodification and societalization have been adopted to redefine the relationship between the state, the market and other non‐state sectors involved in social policy provision and financing. In particular, the restructuring of state‐owned enterprises and the de‐monopolization of the state in social policy provision has inevitably led to significant changes in the post‐Mao welfare regime. This article has chosen a theme ‘riding over socialism and global capitalism’ to examine how the Chinese government reinvents its social policy delivery by adopting new governance strategies to cope with the growing impacts of globalization. With particular reference to higher education, this article focuses on how the three major aspects of higher education governance, namely, provision, financing and regulation, have changed since the economic reform started in the late 1970s. This article concludes by asking whether the introduction of new governance strategies and new reform strategies in education have weakened the state capacity.  相似文献

A common theme within the literature on higher education is the congested nature of the graduate labour market. Researchers have highlighted the lengths to which many students now go, in response to this congestion, to ‘distinguish themselves’ from other graduates: paying increased attention to university status; engaging in a range of extra‐curricular activities; and pursuing postgraduate qualifications. Studies that have focused on the strategies of Asian students, specifically, have pointed to the important place of studying abroad as a further strategy in this pursuit of distinction. Given that there is now some evidence that the number of UK students enrolling on a degree programme overseas is increasing, this article explores the extent to which an overseas education can be seen as part of a broader strategy on the part of British students to seek distinction within the labour market and whether such an education does indeed offer tangible employment benefits.  相似文献
