The advance of research and evaluation skills by EPs: implications for training and professional development

Research and evaluation has become increasingly important in many professions, including educational psychology, particularly as the profession moves to becoming more evidence‐based in its practice. The recent move to a three year doctoral programme in England, Wales and Northern Ireland may be viewed as a positive one in developing research skills, although it is also crucial to consider what could be done to extend the research skills of those already qualified. Lessons may be learned by looking to clinical psychology and some of the health professions. Finally, some further implications for the training and professional development of Educational Psychologists (EPs) in the UK are considered.

师资培训能否促进教师胜任力发展是评估其效果的重要维度。基于教师胜任力发展视角,选取福建省职业教育师资培训作为个案,并从中总结凝练可资借鉴的经验。以效果评估为手段,不断提升师资培训质量;以教师胜任力发展为目标导向,注重师资培训后的跟踪考查;以突出专业针对性为保障,提高培训课程结构和教师发展需求结构的匹配度。     

School self-evaluation for development: The case for and reflections on a training programme

Abstract

This paper explores the case for schools conducting their own self-evaluation to serve the dual purpose of professional development within schools and accountability demands from external sources. The paper is in three parts. The first outlines the argument and benefits for schools conducting their own case study evaluation of their curriculum policies and practices, indicating how this approach is both similar to and different from external case study of schools. The second describes a training programme designed and implemented by the author to support schools in conducting evaluations that are valid, credible and useful. The third presents the participants' and author's reflections on the training and its outcomes and, through an example from one of the schools involved, illustrates what school self-evaluation looks like grounded in the actual experience of undertaking the process. From the evidence presented, the paper concludes that educational professionals, with appropriate support and training, are more than equal to the task of conducting credible and valid case study school self-evaluations.     

Exploring the efficacy of training and development for liaison librarians at Deakin University,Australia

ABSTRACT

Australian universities are operating in a complex, dynamic and competitive global market. Increasingly university administrations are seeking the competitive edge over rival institutions. In order to support their institution’s strategic agenda and maintain their relevance to their institution, libraries will need staff who are highly skilled and able to adapt to the rapidly changing digital world. At Deakin University Library, senior librarians understand the imperative of developing liaison librarians’ capabilities in order to meet the information needs of teaching and research academics. A scaffolded training program (the Program) was developed and a Training Needs Analysis was administered prior and post training programs to determine training priorities. Exploring the Program through the lens of self-determination theory provided an opportunity to critique the Program at a deeper level and situate the Program within a broader context of emerging skill and knowledge capabilities required by all who undertake knowledge-intensive work.     

本地化行业的发展对翻译人才培养的要求

在全球化浪潮的冲击下,各国之间政治、经济、文化、科技的交流日益密切对高层次翻译专门人才的需求量不断增加,翻译人才培养也因此而面临着新的挑战.本文拟从本地化行业发展的大背景下对翻译人才培养的要求提出自己的绵薄之见,以期培养出既遵循翻译人才培养的一般规律,又能适应区域经济和文化发展的实际的地方社会经济发展需要的专门翻译人才,更好地实现服务社会的职能.     

维修电工综合实训、考证装置的开发

针对电气自动化技术专业的学生,设计并开发了一套维修电工实训、考证装置。该装置以就业为导向,以能力为本位,能够开出与维修电工相关的多个实训项目,具有贴近岗位、模仿工场、学生动手机会多和使用寿命长等特点。文章中介绍了该套装置的设计思路、基本构成及使用效果。通过几年的实践证明,效果良好。     

构建“主题研修培训模式” 增强教师培训的实效性——2010年福建省高中历史教研组长高级研修班培训模式及其构建探析

＂主题研修培训模式＂的构建,旨在解决学员自由支配的研修时间和研修资源问题。该模式以集中培训和分散研修相结合为特征,充分体现了＂以学员的发展为本＂的培训理念,拥有传统培训模式所不具备的优势。该模式的构建以研究教师的＂实然需求＂为前提,并以此为依据,制定科学可行的培训目标、富有针对性的讲座和研修主题以及科学的研修方式,大大增强了培训的实效性。     

The development of simupro series operator training systems for complicated industrial processes

SIMUPRO series operator training systems (SOTS) for complicated industrial processes are introduced in detail in this paper, which discusses their main structure, software design, functions and features. SOTS have been successfully applied in practice. Operation results verify that SOTS are effective tools for operator training.     

人力资源开发的培训评估模型及其修正与完善

本文对国际上流行甚广的柯克帕特里克"四级评估模型"以及对之起到重要修正和完善作用的"五级评估模型"及CIRO和CIPP培训评估模型进行了介绍和评论,指出了各个评估模型的优缺点。以期对我国企业人力资源开发进程中的员工培训评估工作产生有益的启迪和借鉴作用。     

The effects of morphological versus phonological awareness training in kindergarten on reading development

The aim of this study was toinvestigate the long-term effects of twodifferent training programs in kindergarten onreading development. One group received aprogram focusing on the phonological structureof words, while a second group received aprogram focusing on morphology. Both groupsalso had some print exposure focusing onphonological or morphological elementsrespectively. During their last pre-schoolyear, participants received training for 30minutes per week for a total of 17 weeks. Acontrol group received no intervention but wasregularly visited by the researcher and hadextensive print exposure. Both trained groupsshowed improvements in phonological,morphological and reading skills in comparisonto the Control Group. The effects of trainingvaried according to mother's educational level:Children of relatively highly educated mothersentered the pre-school training with betterdeveloped metalinguistic abilities thanchildren of less well educated mothers.Significant interactions between the groups andthe mother's educational level, for some of theschool reading measures, indicated thatdifferent training programs had differenteffects on different groups of children.Children of poorly educated mothers profitedthe most from metaphonological training whilechildren of highly educated mothers profitedthe most from metamorphological training.     

The work,perceptions and professional development of teachers

This article presents work from an ongoing investigation, where the objective is to understand the impact of recent Portuguese legislation – the Teaching Career Statute and its respective Evaluation of Teacher Performance regulations – on the (re)construction of teacher identity, the teaching career and professional development. From an analysis of the results obtained, it can be noted that the aforesaid legislation had a negative impact on the perceptions of teachers about their professional development, which is evidenced in their pedagogical practice, the educational success of their students, team work and professional investment for a significant percentage of teachers.     

基于DEA模型的高等职业院校校内实训基地建设绩效评价研究

实训基地建设是高等职业教育办学工作的重要组成部分,是提高实训教学质量的基本保障。以江苏农林职业技术学院每个系为1个决策单元,通过建立数据包络分析模型,对8个决策单元的校内实训基地建设进行绩效评价。结果表明,8个决策单元的实训基地运行状况较为理想,技术效率DEA有效的结果优于规模效率。通过绩效评价能使实训基地管理效率得到不断提升,实训资源配置更加优化。     

基于“思维习惯训练”的职业核心能力教学模式

为了使学生能更明确、更有效的获得各种职业核心能力（与人交流与合作、数字应用、信息处理、解决问题和自我学习能力）,以职业核心能力——数字能力训练课为应用载体,建构了基于“思维习惯训练”职业核心能力教学模式（简称“思维习惯”教学模式）,采取行动研究方法验证并完善模式。这是一种值得倡导的职业核心能力训练模式,可以有效的提高高职学生的综合素质,拓宽其职业发展空间。     

产学研结合 基于焊接专业教学改革实训设备的研发

在焊接专业教改教学中,遵循理实一体化的教学理念,将＂产学研结合＂发挥到极致,利用现代科技手段,在整个焊接专业教学中巧妙地应用了配套研发的＂数控平面凸轮廓焊床＂实训设备,将实训设备产品化,并积极探索将企业产品引入教学,完成整个焊接专业不同教学领域的教学实训任务的具有职业教育特色的新型教学方法,将产、学、研有效结合,力求提高焊接专业的课堂教学质量。

介绍<欧洲教育与培训2010年目标>出台的社会背景,简述<目标>基本内容及其实施策略.<目标>的提出与实施反映了知识社会对欧洲教育的全新挑战,强化了欧洲教育一体化的态势,认为这是欧洲在教育的多元与统一中进行的有意义的探索与尝试.     

The impact of training on pre-service teacher attitudes,concerns, and efficacy towards inclusion

Thirty pre-service teachers took part in a nine-week university course focussed on the benefits of inclusive education and the techniques needed to successfully implement it. The Teachers’ Attitudes Toward Inclusion Scale (TATIS), Concerns about Inclusive Education Scale (CIES), and Teacher’s Efficacy in Implementing Inclusive Practices (TEIP) were administered prior to and following the university course. Paired sample t-tests revealed that participants’ attitudes and efficacy increased significantly following the course while their concerns decreased significantly. Mixed design ANOVAs revealed that pre-service teachers without past experience of teaching students with disabilities had the largest improvement in attitudes. Pre-service teachers who were not acquainted with a person with a disability had significantly larger decreases in concern level and increases in efficacy level than those who were acquainted with a person with a disability. These results are discussed and implications for future research outlined.     

The impact of a three-year teacher professional development course on quality of teaching: strengths and limitations of the dynamic approach

The dynamic approach (DA) suggests that professional development should be differentiated to meet teachers’ individual needs while engaging participants into systematic and guided critical reflection. Previous experimental studies demonstrated that one-year interventions based on the DA have a positive impact on teacher effectiveness. The study reported here investigates the impact that a long-term programme based on the DA can have on quality of teaching. In-service primary school teachers were randomly allocated into two groups. The first group received a three-year programme based on the DA whereas the second acted as the control group. Pre- and post-measurement of teaching skills was performed each year. Offering the DA for a longer period resulted in bigger effects on improving teaching skills but no change in the skills of the control group was observed. Differential effects for teachers situated at different levels are also reported. Implications of findings are drawn.     

Influence of improved teaching practices on student satisfaction ratings for two undergraduate units at an Australian university

To track the quality of instruction delivered at the University of Western Australia, the university surveys all units using its Students’ Unit Reflective Feedback (SURF) metrics, and faculties use these metrics to benchmark student satisfaction. Consequently, teaching staff are actively encouraged to adopt teaching practices that will increase the average levels of these metrics. Using a ‘before-after’ approach, we compared these metrics before and after the implementation of improved teaching practices that addressed specific weaknesses identified through student responses for two undergraduate units. Despite the implementation of improved teaching practices, SURF scores did not increase significantly for the two units assessed, due possibly to the components of the academic programme covered by the SURF questions, the field-based nature of the units, and the difficulty in measuring an increase in the SURF scores of units which already score highly. This poor sensitivity of the SURF metrics to the implementation of improved teaching practices could have implications for their use for performance assessment by the university.

为了寻求职业教育与地方经济可持续发展的对策与建议,广西教育厅组织了覆盖全区范围的"广西职业教育充分发展和教育结构合理化研究"课题调研活动.本文针对调研中发现的北部湾钦州地区中等职业学校问题.提出依托北部湾重点产业调整职业教育专业设置的策略,发挥政府的统筹规划功能,按照产业布局调整职业学校布局,形成区域特色职业学校.依托主导产业调整职业教育专业设置,打造中职品牌专业,凸显北部湾区域中职特色.     

The influence of self-assessment practices on online training for investigative interviewing skills

This paper investigates how 192 trainees’ self-assessment practices and personal attributes related to their success in an online interview training program. Performance was measured pre- and post-training by evaluating the use of open-ended questions and positive interviewing behaviors. Personal data and a pre-training survey on self-assessment practices (i.e., SEFI, seeking external feedback through inquiry; SEFM, seeking external feedback through monitoring; SIF, seeking internal feedback; and SR, self-reflection) were also collected. Trainees with higher levels of SEFI had larger learning gains from the training, whereas trainees with higher levels of SEFM or SIF had smaller learning gains. Trainees with lower interviewing skills before the training, and those from policing backgrounds, demonstrated larger learning gains. Younger trainees evidenced a larger increase in the use of open-ended questions, while older trainees showed greater changes in prevalence of positive interviewing behaviors. The implications of the findings for the development of training programs are discussed.
