Promoting the quality of Sino-foreign cooperation school

Based on the history and situation of the current Sino-foreign cooperation in running school, some prominent differences on the college educations between China and developed countries are discussed. The paper aims to improve the level of Sino-foreign cooperation school running, and gives some methods to promote the education quality of Chinese colleges.     

Road of China-Africa educational cooperation and exchange with its own characteristics

Under the background of traditional friendship and cooperative exchange between China and Africa, Zhejiang Normal University （ZNU） endeavored to develop, improve and deepen the China-Africa cooperation, initiated a road of China-Africa educational cooperation and exchange with its own characteristics. This road, guided by China＇s national policy for China-Africa educational cooperation and exchange, is based on the human and regional advantage of Zhejiang Province and the overall capability of ZNU. Researches on the present African higher education and its development are the starting point of this road, the Base for Education Aid and Development of Ministry of Education, the key research base of humanitarian social science in Zhejiang Province（discipline of Higher Education）, and the Center for African Education Studies of ZNU all serve as a support to depend upon.     

The Impacts of the Cultural Differences on Sino - US Business Negotiations

With the emergence of a economic globalization and China’s enter into WTO,China has witnessed a sharp increase in foreign investment and plenty Chinese firms into the international market.Business negotiation is the most common phenomenon in business life and international trade,so understanding the behaviors of the negotiators is a vital presupposition for successful negotiations to obtain a mutually satisfactory agreement.This is still more important if the cultural backgrounds of the parties involved are different,for example,between Chinese and American parties.In fact,the larger the cultural differences,the greater barriers to communication,and the more likely misinterpretation of the negotiation.Intercultural understanding is the foundation and basic for long-term mutually beneficial cooperation,therefore,to negotiate triumphantly,cultural differences between the parties concerned must be identified and solved.This article will expound negotiation behaviors between China and America.     

Overview of Native-speaker English Teacher Versus Non-native-speaker English Teacher

As much more non-native-speaker English teachers teach alongside native-speaker English teachers, either in China or any other non-English-speaking country, research on the differences between native-speaker English teacher and non-native-speaker English teacher is necessary. This paper offers an overview of such difference between the two groups of English teachers in terms of their strengths and weaknesses, teaching styles and approaches. The conclusion suggests that cooperation and communication be emphsised and that the two groups of teachers communicate more and exchange their ideas on how to teach the same group of students more effectively.     

CEPA and interrelationship between Chinese yuan and Hong Kong dollar

In order to explore the interrelated impacts of the economical communications between China and Hong Kong SAR, especially after the closer economic partnership arrangement (CEPA) and the Chinese yuan offshore financial business in Hong Kong banks in 2004, the exchange rates of the Chinese yuan and the Hong Kong dollar are investigated as well-performing market signals that should reflect this historical transformation. With vector autoregressive models (VAR), the Johansen cointegration test and the Granger causality test on the exchange rates of the Chinese yuan and the Hong Kong dollar adjusted by the consumer price index and inter-bank interest rates are examined. It is found that the exchange rates of the Chinese yuan and the Hong Kong dollar after CEPA are in long-term equilibrium and Granger causality with each other, which means that the interrelationship of the Chinese yuan and the Hong Kong dollar is more closely integrated after the implementation of the CEPA. In conclusion, the cooperation regarding bilateral trade and financial markets between China and Hong Kong SAR has been enhanced after 1997; furthermore, after the implementation of CEPA the interrelationship of the economies between China and Hong Kong SAR is significantly reinforced.

English Film Subtitle Translation from the Perspective of Domestication and Foreignization—A Case Study of Ice Age

Nowadays,cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries have become increasingly frequent,which boosts the development of film industry and highlights the importance of subtitle translation.However,in China,subtitling is a relatively new research field of translation.This study explores the guiding role of domestication and foreignization strategies in English film subtitle translation.On the basis of material from Ice Age,the paper carries on the analysis of film subtitle translation in terms of expressions with typical cultural features and idiomsproverbs under the effective guidance of domestication and foreignization translation strategies.It’s concluded that domestication and foreignization strategies can provide theoretical guidance for subtitling and appropriate combination of the two strategies can achieve better translation effects.

What Does English for Specific Purposes Mean to English Teaching Re⁃form in China?

One of the most controversial debate topics in current College English teaching is whether EGP(English for General Pur?poses)should be replaced by ESP(English for Specific Purposes).The latest College English Curriculum issued by MOE(Ministry of Education)does not reflect the trend of developing College English Teaching by focusing on ESP,but rather on improving gener?al English course books.However,the first local College English Curriculum published in 2012 in Shanghai focuses on developing ESP and English for academic purpose as its teaching objectives.This paper analyzes different definitions of ESP in China’s educa?tion setting,compares different views on handling the relationship between EGP and ESP in China’s College English Reform,and explores how to apply an appropriate notion of EGP to College English teaching in China.     

A Study on Intercultural Business Negotiation-Based on a Case

Enlightened by excellent works of some well-known anthropologists such as Hofstede and Hall, the author tries to conduct a tentative study on the differences between negotiation styles adopted by Chinese negotiators and those from western countries like America due to different cultures to which they are exposed. The main goal of this paper then is to identify these differences in the hope that understanding and trust can be established as a precondition for a long-lasting mutually beneficial cooperation between China and other countries. As for the research method, the paper mainly adopts a qualitative study with a case from real business negotiations.     

On Applicability of Face——Saving Theory in China

Brown and Levinson’s face theory is a theory of interpersonal relationship. It has successfully explained the influence of "face"in people’s daily communications. The theory is built on the basis of western culture and ignores the cultural difference of "face"in China. It is not free from limitations the absoluteness of which exerts a checking effort on its universal applicability. This paper probes from the perspective of the influence of context and culture that the application of Face-Saving theory in actual communications in China, especially from those restrictions on the use of negative face in China.
