Accessing university education: perceptions, preferences, and expectations for interpreting by deaf students

This paper provides a brief review of the history of deaf education in Australia, Australian Sign Language (Auslan), and Auslan interpreting. A panel of Australian deaf university students from diverse linguistic and educational backgrounds provides insights into their perceptions of sign language interpreting provision in university lectures. They commented on their interpreting preferences after viewing two videotaped segments of university lecture interpretation, one demonstrating a predominantly free approach and the other a predominantly literal approach. Expectations of the deaf students were explored in relation to the educational backgrounds and qualifications of university interpreters; comprehension of interpreters is also discussed. Results suggest that the university students preferred interpreters to combine both interpretation styles, switching between literal and free approaches when appropriate. In doing so, students can access lecture content in Auslan while accessing subject-specific terminology or academic language in English. In terms of qualifications, the students advocated for interpreters to have a university qualification in general, especially if they are working in a university context. However, the students also acknowledged that interpreting did not provide them with full access in educational settings.

《楚辞》文化负载词的翻译反映了典籍翻译的研究型特征以及译者传播中国文化的态度。以孙大雨《屈原诗选英译》为例,从生态文化、物质文化、社会文化、宗教文化、语言文化五个方面探讨文化负载词的翻译,管窥如何使《楚辞》的民族文化特色走进英语世界。孙大雨以源语文化为依归,采用了直译、意译、直译与文外加注、意译与文外加注、音译与文外加注、文内补偿等多种方法。“加注”参与建构了整个译本的意义生成,也是译者的文化翻译观在翻译实践中的体现。     

话语密度和法庭口译人员的表现

法律翻译研究由来已久,但一直都重笔译,轻口译。从话语密度这一角度对法庭口译进行探讨,通过分析话语密度对法庭口译人员的影响,提出了改进法庭口译人员表现的初步建议。

成功的广告不仅在词汇、句型方面细腻,在修辞手段上也别具一格。但是由于语言和文化的不同,我们对广告中许多的修辞手法很难理解,也很难进行翻译。通过举例总结了英语广告中常用到的六种修辞手法在大学翻译教学中的运用,指出在翻译教学中,应尽可能遵循直译和意译的翻译原则,从而尽可能地达到原文的修辞效果。     

论社会语境中的文体变异研究

社会语言学中功能语言观在篇章分析中认为,篇章中的文体变化受情境中因素的制约,话语基调影响篇章中主体互联程度;话语方式限定着篇章形式构成。它们形成篇章中文体变异的依据并与篇章中的表义功能、人际功能和语篇功能这三大功能相互联系,其功能作用决定了它们在篇章中的重要性。可见,只有把言内语境和言外语境分析结合起来,才能对一个篇章的意义完整理解。     

中原文化“走出去”战略下的豫剧剧名英译的实证研究

在中原文化“走出去”的背景下,豫剧担当了排头兵的角色,其精品剧目多次走出国门。但由于目前豫剧剧名的翻译没有形成统一的标准,这直接影响了豫剧文化的传播范围和效果。同时关于豫剧剧名翻译的研究也是一片空白。豫剧剧名可分为三大类,即人物名、事物和线索名、剧情名。对于以人物命名的豫剧剧名,其英译应以意译等归化策略为主;对于以事物、线索命名的豫剧剧名,其英译应以直译为主;对于以情节命名的豫剧剧名,其英译应以意译为主,“直译+释义”、直译为辅。

目的论视角下的英语体育新闻汉译

习近平国际演讲亲民话语特征及其英译特色研究

国家领导人的国际演讲是具有重要政治意义的官方话语。本文以《习近平谈治国理政》 一书中 23 篇国际演讲的中、 英文本为研究对象,分析习近平的话语特征及其英语翻译特色, 并结合国际媒体的相关报道分析这些话语及其翻译的传播效果。研究发现,习近平话语的最大特征之一是其亲民性, 集中表现为“善讲故事”、“博引经典”、“巧借隐喻” 和“广用俗语” 等方面。这些亲民话语特色在英译本中主要通过直译、 化译、 回译等翻译方法得到了较好的再现,赢得了国际受众的好评,也为中国政治文献的对外传译工作提供了有益启示。     

A Cognitive Analysis on Translation Strategy

A cognitive interpretation of the basic translation strategy, domestication and foreignization, is elaborated in this paper. It is pro posed that based on differences in linguistic presentation and cultural connotation, the application of translation strategy is determined by the style of the source text (ST) and the translator’s performance, both of which are generated from individualized style of construe, decided by a range of experiences. So great importance should be attached to experience and construe. Such an interpretation is proposed to pro vide a new perspective to study translation strategy and initiate a better comprehension of the ST and translation.     

A Study of the Translation of Humor in English Movies

What is believed to be the most important thing in translating English movie subtitle is the transmission of humorous effects.Humor is the development result of language and culture,and it is human’s wisdom.Based on Vermeer’s Skopostheorie theory of functionalist approaches,the thesis suggests that the instrumental translation strategy based on the source text analysis can be used for the translation of humor discourses.The translator can translate humorous languages by way of literal translation,annotation,combination of literal translation and free translation.

阅读是读者获取综合信息的过程。阅读教学不仅仅指语言形式和字面意思的理解,而是将阅读作为整体进行语篇分析。阅读教学中运用语篇分析方法将语言单位放在语篇水平上来理解,对培养学生的阅读理解能力,发展语言交际能力,提高阅读水平有着促进作用。
