A Rich Father
John D. Rockefeller, the well-known millionaire, gave away millions, but he himself was very mean about small sums of money. One day he went to stay at a hotel in New York and asked for the cheapest room in it. He said, "I am staying here alone and only need a small room."The manager showed him into a room and said, "This is our smallest and cheapest room," and added, "but why do you choose a poor room like this? When your son stays here, he always has our most expensive room; yours is our …  相似文献

Study on a 5.0 W/80 K single stage Stirling type pulse tube cryocooler   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A single stage Stifling pulse tube cryocooler was designed based on REGEN 3.2 and fabricated for testing. The experimental results show that the cooler can provide a cooling capacity of 5.0 W at 79.1 K, and produce a no-load temperature of 57.0 K, operating with an average pressure of 2.50 MPa and a frequency of 60 Hz, performance results that are very close to the calculated values. The cryocooler can be cooled from room temperature to 80 K in 8.5 min. The fast cooldown time is a result of the small regenerator.  相似文献

To understand the characteristics of impact-sound transmission through a floor is very helpful for developing sound attenuation strategies to acquire a high quality of dwellings. Sound transmission through a floating floor to the room underneath was modeled by finite-element method (FEM). The sound pressure levels calculated by the FEM model on a scale of 1:4 was compared with the measured values, which demonstrate good agreement, particularly for impact sound of a relatively low frequency. The sound pressure level in a receiving room is strongly affected by the structural characteristics of both the floor and the room. The sound pressure transmitted through a clamped floor is lower than through a simply supported floor because of the larger rigidity of the clamped floor that contributes to the attenuation mechanism of stiffness. Increase in the thickness of the fiber-glass damping layer in the floor improves sound insulation. A larger room has a larger capacity to dissipate the sound pressure and thus has a lower sound pressure level. An asymmetric configuration of room avails sound attenuation because it has weaker structural and acoustic coupling than a symmetric one.  相似文献

Three people check into a hotel. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager finds out that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return. On the way to the room, the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people, so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person.  相似文献

The shelf life of pure amorphous sucrose systems, such as cotton candy, can be very short. Previous studies have shown that amorphous sucrose systems held above the glass transition temperature will collapse and crystallize. One study, however, showed that adding a small percent of another type of sugar, such as trehalose, to sucrose can extend the shelf life of the amorphous system by slowing crystallization. This study explores the hypothesis that raffinose increases the stability of an amorphous sucrose system. Cotton candy at 5 wt% raffinose and 95 wt% sucrose was made and stored at room temperature and three different relative humidities (%RH) 11%RH, 33%RH, and 43%RH. XRD patterns, and glass transition temperatures were obtained to determine the stability as a function of%RH. The data collected showed that raffinose slows sucrose crystallization in a low moisture amorphous state above the glass transition temperature and therefore improves the stability of amorphous sucrose systems.  相似文献
