Preparing our students to publish: Lessons learned

Doctoral students' inexperience in publication writing poses a challenge to higher education faculties. The approach detailed here to collegial writing—professors and students working as colleagues—offers one response. The assumptions guiding the course are followed by an elaboration of its key structuring components. The article concludes with a discussion of five lessons essential to the replication of a similar publication writing workshop in other settings. Among them are adopting a process model, electing a nontraditional course mode, employing cooperative learning as the dominant strategy, and drawing on schoolwide faculty to broaden perspectives on publication.Margo A. 发布/订阅模式下面向负载均衡的数据分发(英文)

为了提高数据分发效率,在发布/订阅模式下提出了一个面向负载均衡的数据分发方法 LBDD.在LBDD方法中,订阅方既接收数据,又承担数据转发工作.采用M D5算法,在发布方和订阅方间建立一棵分发树,其中发布方是根节点.给出了桶建立、目标选择以及路径修正方法,并进一步证明了数据单向分发性质.LBDD方法可保证分发树中任意一个节点的平均出度为2.针对数据分发延迟、数据分发速率和负载分布进行了实验.实验数据表明,LBDD方法能够有效地均衡发布方和订阅方的负载,分发效率高于点到点分发方式.     

关于改革出版教育机制的思考

目前，我国出版业正面临着历史上大好的发展机遇，也面临着严峻的挑战，出版教育滞后于出版产业的发展已成不争的事实。针对目前我国出版教育中存在的问题，应进行如下改革：一是改革出版教育模式．培养高素质的复合型出版人才；二是重组知识结构，加强师资队伍建设；三是产学携手，建立和谐共生的关系；四是注重出版实践，提升出版人才的全面素质和技能。     

Where do educational technologists really publish? An examination of successful emerging scholars’ publication outlets

This study engages the question of where successful emerging (pretenure) scholars are most likely to publish their research. Spurred on by findings of a survey of leaders in the field of educational technology/instructional design and technology (ET/IDT) to determine the advisability of a rank‐ordered list of journals for the purposes of decision making about tenure and promotion, this document analysis presents the results of measuring the conventional wisdom against the actual practices of emerging scholars. Findings suggest that pretenure scholars publish in a wide variety of outlets including some, but not all of those identified in earlier surveys. While it is understood that the tenure decision is a complicated one—based on many criteria (eg, teaching, service, grantsmanship, etc), research and scholarship remain primary determinants. Therefore, these findings will be useful to emerging scholars and to those decision makers seeking direction regarding research outlets. The study is limited by a focus from an original survey conducted in 2003 to primarily North American scholars as participants, however, international considerations are included. The findings indicate that a list of journals for tenure decision making may not be advisable at this point in the development of the field of ET/IDT.

劝返何去何从

劝返作为引渡的替代性措施之一,早在2007年的胡星案中就成功使用过。劝返较引渡和引渡的其他替代性措施,确实存在一系列优势,但它的困境也是显而易见的:其前提性条件的具备何其艰难;其是否像有的学者所说的那样应认定为自首;为何杨湘洪至今未被劝返。总之,充分比较劝返的利弊之后,我们是否继续不遗余力地对劝返措施进行提倡,如果提倡的话,如何提倡,则是不得不面对的问题。     

Learning to Talk to Parents

Why are so many teachers reluctant to make talking to parents a priority? In the Warnock Report, the 1981 Education Act and, more recently, the Fish Report teachers were urged to form 'partnerships' with parents. Yet very little progress has been made in this direction with the parents of children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Neil Dawson and Brenda McHugh are two ILEA teachers who have been using a family systems approach in the Marlborongh Family Service Education Unit for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties in north west London. In this article they explore the question, 'Why is it so difficult?' and share their ideas and experiences of possible solutions.
