Impression·Beijing——Female Art Biennial Displayed in Capital Museum

Last August, an art exhibition by female artists entitled “Impression ? Beijing” was presented in Beijing Capital Museum. The exhibition, co-organized by Beijing Female Artists Association and World Cultural and Natural Heritage Foundation, displayed some 180 artworks by 104 female artists, including traditional water and ink, oil, watercolor, sketch and sculpture. Bronze Sculpture Showcased at International Art Exhibition

The 9th China Art and Design Exhibition, held in Hangzhou, China in the autumn of 2008 attracted 550 participant companies, with 1,008 booths and an exhibition spaceof 20,000 square meters. Among 12 major types of exhibits, bronze sculpture gained particular attention of buyers and visitors. The following are several choice works of bronze sculpture on display in the exhibition.     

A BURIED EMPIRE

The ten national permanent museum exhibitions of the year were announced on the World Museum Day on May 18, an annual event co-organized by China Museum Association. Xi＇an Municipafity and China Heritage News. The permanent exhibition of the outer burial pits of the Yangfing Mausoleum of Emperor Jingdi of the Han Dynasty won this annual award.     

Vigorous and Unrestrained： Weng Changjiang＇ s Painting

On an early summer day of 1995 my wife and I viewed a painting exhibition on eight artists from South China at the Research Institute of Chinese Traditional Painting. After enjoying the nearly 100 painting masterpieces and walking out of the exhibition hall, I noticed a solo exhibition being held in the side hall. The 400-odd ink paintings of portrait and landscape in a freehand brushwork style immediately captured my attention.

Old Summer Palace in Ernst Ohlmer＇s Photos

The year 2010 marks the 150th anniversary of the destruction of the Old Summer Palace （the Yuanmingyuan Garden）. In order to commemorate this lamentable disaster, an exhibition on photographs of the Old Summer Palace shot by Ernst Ohlmer, a German tax official serving in China Custom in the late 19th century, will be jointly launched by Beijing World Art Museum and Taiwan-based Qin Feng Old Photo Studio. The exhibition will display 72 large original photos developed from 12 negative films by Ernst Ohlmer, presenting to visitors an authentic review of the vestiges of this spectacular royal garden destroyed by Western colonists.

Jin Shangyi''''s Oil Exhibition Displayed in Beijing

Oil painting has been popular in China for one century. With endeavors of several generations of Chinese artists, oil painting has enjoyed an important position in modern Chinese art. On April 1, an oil painting review exhibition by Jin Shangyi, who had worked as president of Central Academy of Fine Arts, was held in National Art Museum of China. The total of 160 exhibits show Jin's lifelong pursuit of oil art.

For a whole week this spring, Tokyo International Conference Center in the famous district of Yurakucho, Japan‘s Broadway, became an unusual sort of Peking opera house. Bronze Kingdom on the Yangtze River

Jiangxi Provincial Museum stands at an island surrounded by Ganjiang River and Fuhe River of Nanchang, capital city of Jiang xi Province. To its north is Tengwang Tower, one of the three most famous ancient tower architectures of south China. The museum, with an area of 60 mu （approx. 400, 000 square meters）, has a floor space of 35,000 square meters, including 13,000 square meters）or exhibition halls.     

An Attempt to Rescue Traditional Culture

On November 8, an exhibition on the replicas of lost painting and calligraphic masterpieces, used to be part of the Qing court collection, opened in the National Library of China. This one-month exhibition was co-organized by the collection connoisseurship committee of China Cultural Relics Soceity and Liaoning Provincial Museum. Colorful China： Exhibition on Ethnic Traditions of China

The exhibition ＂Colorful China＂ was recently held in the Capital Museum in Beijing, This exhibition displayed 100 pieces or sets of masterpieces of ethnic tradition in foursections, including ＂Unity and Self-Reliance＂, ＂Ethnic Diversity and Harmony＂, ＂Superb Craftsmanship＂ and ＂Mental Cultivation＂. These historic exhibits collected by 12 different museums of China offered viewers a good opportunity to take an in-depth look at ethnic cultures and traditions preserved and promoted in the process of modernization.     

30 Years of Chinese Modern Sculpture Exhibition of 100 Sculptors was held in National Gallery

The Exhibition of 100 Sculptors was recently on display in the National Art Museum of China. With an objective to review the development of Chinese sculpture over the past 30 years of reform and opening up, this grand exhibition project was launched in November 2008. Master sculptors like Pan He, Qian Shaowu, Ye Minshan, Zeng Chenggang, Cao Chunshen, Han Meilin and Wu Weishan were invited to form an expert panel to select 104 masterpieces from nearly 2000 candidate works. Participant sculptors vary in age, from master sculptor Liu Kaiqu to young sculptors born in the 1980s. The exhibition clearly outlines the evclution of Chinese modern sculpture and showcases masterpieces of important sculptors with diversified styles, including abstract, transmogrified and exaggerated creations by Han Meilin, neo-realist sculpture by Wu Xinkun and the impressionist style by Wu Weishan.
