A Study on the Teachers’Code-switching in Vocational College Non-Eng lish Majors’English Instruction

This paper is designed to investigate the teachers’code-switching used in English instruction in vocational colleges and wants to make some efforts to the better understanding and use of code-switching and develop a positive attitude towards the code-switching in English teaching classroom.     

On Teachers’ Role in Spoken English Class

The paper analyzes the characteristics of the spoken English class and proposes the suggestions to the teachers in term of how to design the spoken English class, organize and administrate the class and assess the learners’ oral English ability. The paper introduces the various classroom activities and how to conduct them in teachers’ teaching process as well.     

A Study of Code-Switching in Students’ Talk in College English Class

Code-switching between English and Chinese usually occurs in students’ talk when they are involved in taking communicative language activities in college English class. This paper studies the situations in which students are likely to use codeswitching and analyzes it from the perspective of the mental world in Verscheren’s Adaptation Theory. It shows that inadequate mastery of English language, cultural differences and the improper adjustment to context may lead to students’ using of codeswitching. It also shows that the use of code-switching in students’ talk adapts to students’ cognitive elements and emotive elements as well.     

On Teachers’ Roles in Internet English teaching Based on Constructivism

The characteristics of Internet English teaching happens to conform to the principles of constructivism.So a new teaching mode comes into being.Here Teachers’ roles in the new mode is to be discussed,which is advanced combined with experence and theoretical analysis.     

A Study on Teachers’and Students’Beliefs about English Teaching

Teacher and learner beliefs have been found to play an important role in EFL teaching and learning.The present em pirical study explores a group of college teachers’and students’beliefs about English teaching by using questionnaire.The statisti cal result shows that teachers and students have divergent views about many issues in English teaching.     

Teacher’s Role in the Oral English Class

English speaking has been paid more attention today, especially in the age of globalization. Teachers are attempting to find out more effective methods to enhance the teaching results of English speaking. Facing the great demands and present difficulties of oral English classes, teachers have to conduct more study and practice to find out what roles that an oral English teacher has to take in the oral English classroom. Compared with the traditional teaching role in the English classroom, an oral English teacher has to fulfill more than one role in the classroom teaching so as to provide better learning conditions for students. Lacking more exposure to the real interaction with native speakers, students expect the oral English teacher to be a creator of the language environment. With various teaching and learning activities in the oral English classroom, the teacher has to be a good organizer to ensure every student to achieve improvement. An oral English teacher also has to correct students’language errors while ensuring the smooth progress of the classroom teaching. Only when an oral English teacher make clear what roles he or she has to take in the classroom can he or she achieve effective teaching.     

Classroom Language Environment and Seniors’ Oral English

The current situation of English teaching cannot keep pace with the requirements of the Senior High School Standards (the Ministry of Education, 2003). Due to the influences of the traditional teaching method, some English teachers still insist on the teacher-centered teaching approaches. The result is that there is less target language (TL) input and TL output in class, and senior students are weak in their oral English. Teacher’s Role in Students’Group Work in College English Classroom

The implementation of group work in China is aroused by the teaching reform and proposal of the New Curriculum Standard, in order to improve the language teaching and learning. However, in many cases group work is far less effective and desirable than it should have been. The effectiveness of group work depends on many factors in real language classroom setting. This paper mainly focuses on the factor of teacher’s role. The main implication of this paper is to suggest the appropriate teacher role in students’group work and put forward some skills in organizing group work in order to make group work more effective and significant.     

Exploring Teachers’ Personal Practical Knowledge through Narrative Inquiry——A Case Study on a College English Teacher

Teachers play an important role in the successful implementation of the current curriculum innovation and their personal practi cal knowledge is a decisive factor in their teaching and that teachers’ knowledge affects every aspect of the teaching act.This paper tries to explore teachers’ personal practical knowledge of a college English teacher and her reading class.It shows how to present her teaching contents,design teaching methods and activities in order to accomplish her teaching tasks and teaching goals.The study combines narrative analysis of the reading design with a process inquiry about teaching and learning.Hopefully,the findings would shed some light on teach ers’ professional development.

On the Application of Drama Teaching Method in Preschool Children’s English Enlightenment Activities

with the rapid development of English education, children’s teaching is becoming more and more important in the edu-cation system. Children’s English has the characteristics of enlightenment. The application of drama teaching method can makethe abstract knowledge vivid, which is helpful to arouse students’ enthusiasm and better understand knowledge. Therefore, teach-ers should follow the principles of English drama teaching, make clear the teaching purpose, and design targeted drama links to pro-mote the rational application of drama teaching method in English classroom.     

A Study of Interlanguage Fossilization in College Students’ English writing

English writing is the college students’synthetical application about the knowledge of English.English writing,however,is the weak segment of the college students'English learning all the time.Based on the researches home and abroad,the paper makes an implicational study on interlanguage fossilization in English writing of Chinese college students.Though probing the causes of fossilization in English writing,the paper proposes some measures to reduce the fossilization.In the chapter one,the paper introduces simply the interlanguage fossilization.In the chapter two,the paper analyzes college students English writing and get the causal factors of fossilization:unfavorite learning motivation of students,ineffective feedback to errors,interference of the mother tongue.Then,at the last chapter,the paper put up some measures to overcome and avoid the fossilization in college students'English writing:promoting students'motivation,providing right feedback,avoiding mother tongue interference.     

A Study of Non-English Majors’Anxiety over Spoken English and Relieving Strategies

By using revised foreign language classroom anxiety scale designed by Horwitz,the paper investigates 150 non-English majors’ third-year students.After the statistical analysis,the paper finds various sources of anxiety and proposes some corresponding teaching strategies for teachers to help them overcome anxious emotion when communicating English with others.     

Analysis of English Majors’ Expressiveness of Chinese Culture in English

Currently English has spread around the world so extensively that it has become a link language across many cultures.Since 1980s,China saw a warm discussion of language,culture and cross-cultural communication.An increasing number of researchers and educators began to be aware of the vital importance of culture in EFL teaching and learning and cultural content has been available in classrooms teaching.However,the development of English teaching and cross-cultural communicative competence is target culture-oriented and the ability of expressiveness of home culture in English is almost ignored.Thus,the thesis seeks to collect the students’ perceptions on expressiveness of Chinese culture in English and the culture teaching in EFL in China.

An Analysis of Senior High School English Teacher’s Classroom Discourse: from the Perspective of CDA

The study of the English teachers’ language in the L2 classrooms is a very important branch of discourse analysis. However, up till now, much of the research conducted has focused on the linguistic features of teachers’ classroom discourse. In present study, a critical point of view is adopted to analyze the social and cultural aspects of the classroom discourse. With the help of CDA (critical discourse analy sis), the relationship between language, power and ideology is deeply explored.     

On Tibetan Students’ Willingness to Communicate in EFL Classroom

Set as the primary and ultimate goal of language teaching process by MacIntyre et al.(1998),willingness to communicate in second language(L2 WTC) has been put much attention in L2 acquisition field.This study examined quantitatively the willingness to communicate in English as a foreign language(EFL WTC) in Tibetan context with a questionnaire.Tibetan college students’ EFL WTC was found significantly lower than Han students.No significant difference was found between Tibetan male and female students in their EFL WTC.Causes were explored andsome pedagogical suggestions were made in this study.
