In engineering education, the accreditation and assessment of academic programmes is vital in order to maintain the quality and the status of engineering graduates, and hence the technical workforce. Results of a survey of the relevant literature and observations indicate that various accreditation models have been developed regionally, as well as internationally but most of these models seem to be non-uniform, too complex, non-transparent and, moreover, non-precise. This leads to confusion and growing concerns about the mutual recognition and global mobility of the engineering profession. As a result, there is an urgent need for a systematic global model of engineering accreditation that can be used to assess global professional skills and attributes of engineering graduates. The aim of the current paper is to present a brief review of existing accreditation systems implemented in engineering education worldwide as well as to describe the methodology for developing a global accreditation model in engineering education. Various existing accreditation models in engineering education are briefly discussed in this paper and the strengths and weaknesses of these models are outlined and presented. The need for the global accreditation model has been justified and the methodology for the development of the model is outlined with its advantages listed in the paper.  相似文献

The article explores sign language interpreter training, testing, and accreditation in three major English-speaking countries, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, by providing an overview of the training and assessment of sign language interpreters in each country. The article highlights the reasons these countries can be considered leaders in the profession and compares similarities and differences among them. Key similarities include the provision of university interpreter training, approval for training courses, license "maintenance" systems, and educational interpreting guidelines. Differences are noted in relation to training prerequisites, types and levels of accreditation, administration of the testing system, and accreditation of deaf interpreters. The article concludes with predictions about future developments related to the establishment of the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters and the development of sign language interpreting research as a research discipline.  相似文献

以"计算机基础及C语言程序设计"课程为例,构建了以"能力培养为核心"的"目标导向"式课程教学体系,并对该体系的实践结果进行了评价。两年的教学实践表明,新课程教学体系能显著提升学生学习的主观能动性,使教学过程由传统的以教师为中心的"单声道、填鸭式"转变为以学生为中心的"互动交流、提问质疑、辩论",把课程目标由传统的"教师教授什么"变为"学生学到什么"。对新专业认证标准下的课程教学有着重要的借鉴意义。  相似文献

The focus is on an analysis of the concept of accreditation in policy documents from four countries (Finland, the Netherlands, France and Sweden). This paper presents the present situations and issues arising during the introduction of an accreditation system in Japan that includes a bit of the conventional assurance system and its problems, the fundamental policy and criteria of the accreditation system, in particular, educational outcomes criteria. The issues discussed are: (1) grouping of engineering fields and establishing the programme criteria; (2) finance; (3) educational reform; (4) setting educational objectives and evaluation; (5) threshold criteria; and (6) relations with the National Institution for Academic Degrees with regard to university evaluation.  相似文献

Principals’ written assessments of 50 high school teachers whom they judged competent for full registration and 32 whom they judged not yet competent and in need of an extended period of provisional registration were analysed in terms of the characteristics used to describe and determine beginning teacher competence. It was found that principals consistently refer to a narrow range of characteristics when describing competent beginning teachers and focus on an even narrower range in deciding whether or not full registration should be granted. Characteristics that describe approaches to teaching are used most often in this regard. While the majority of beginning teachers possess an adequate knowledge base in their subject area, success in the first year of school experience hinges on the ability to communicate such knowledge and concepts to students. The need for further refinement of the appraisal process, including professional development programmes for principals, is highlighted.  相似文献

This paper offers a critical analysis of the education policy move towards teacher professional standards. Drawing on Lacan’s three registers of the psyche (real, imaginary and symbolic), the paper argues that moves towards codification (and domestication) of teachers’ work and identities in standardized (and sanitized) forms, such as the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership professional standards recently adopted in Australia, can be read as a colonization of the Real and the imaginary by (a rather static, mortified form of) the symbolic. The paper argues that in response to such normalizing moves, we need to consider how we might conceptualize the reanimation of what it means to teach and be a teacher, something we attempt in terms of enabling each of the psyche’s registers to inter-animate each other, as a means of engendering teacher identities characterized by criticality, creativity and passion – that is, by an ethics of singularity rather than by standardization.  相似文献

高等院校认证在高等教育的质量保障和改进中起到了非常重要的作用.而在整个院校认证活动过程中,院校认证标准是认证活动顺利开展的基石.以美国院校认证为例,通过对美国院校认证标准的制定主体、认证标准的内容以及认证标准的发展趋势进行分析,进而可以得出:认证标准制定主体的多样化,认证标准应该能够求同存异,应该注重从学生环节保证教育质量,这是保证并不断提高高等教育质量的关键.  相似文献

高校教学质量监控体系的建立是保证高等教育的人才培养质量和社会声誉的重要措施,因而一直是高校教学管理中积极探索和努力实践的重要工作。本文总结了将本科教学工作水平自评估、专业认证和教学督导集成运用,建设武汉理工大学教学质量监控体系的探索。实践表明:在合并组建的学校中,评估、认证和督导相结合的教学质量监控体系,对多校区教学秩序的稳定效果显著,对教学质量的提高发挥了重要作用,是一项卓有成效的教学管理改革实践。  相似文献

Nationwide, state policy-makers have increasingly adopted curriculum standards as a means of improving education. However, relatively little empirical research has been done to investigate if a link actually exists between curriculum standards and student performance. Using data collected by the New York State Department of Education, the impact of standards on high school student achievement is examined through estimation of a one-way fixed-effects model of the education production function. Curriculum standards are operationalized as the award of a “50–64” variance, which is considered a means of increasing the number of students taking demanding courses. The findings suggest that curriculum standards can improve student performance, but they do little to improve equity. While larger portions of pupils pass curriculum-based assessment exams, continued associations between select student characteristics and student performance remain.  相似文献

The question of accreditation has been quite controversial in higher education. Some consider accreditation as a necessary “evil” while others reject it outright. It is a process designed to promote quality assurance and improvement in institutions and programs, yet one mired in various issues. While accreditation is controversial in a number of respects, the major focus of accrediting bodies should be the review of applied professional programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels that are grounded in professional standards and licensure. Basic science programs such as movement, exercise, and sport science should be excluded from accreditation review and subject only to external review by experts within the field of kinesiology. Furthermore, amongst other factors, the association of kinesiology programs with agencies that promote the accreditation of programs that lack professional standards, certifi cation, or licensure should be rejected. Accreditation is here to stay, but how well it serves the academy remains debatable.  相似文献
