The traditional approach to behaviour problems in secondary schools has been reactive and largely negative. The introduction in recent years of a systems perspective was due to general dissatisfaction with the effectiveness of the traditional problem‐focused model and to a recognition of the benefits that preventive practices might bring. The reports of whole‐school innovations, which are available, are encouraging. However, to date only certain types of systems interventions have been thoroughly evaluated and there is a need for more empirical data. This review also considers the practical implications for educational psychologists in introducing new approaches to secondary schools.  相似文献

The article reports the findings of an evaluation of a 1996-1999 British Home Office funded project which placed social work trained home-school support workers in comprehensive schools with the aim of reducing school exclusions. Set in the context of a review of the research evidence for the reasons for rapidly rising school exclusions in England during the 1990s, quantitative and qualitative data are analysed in relation to the impact of the project on rates of fixed-term and permanent exclusions. Exclusions were considerably reduced by a variety of strategies adopted by the support workers and over the three-year project duration permanent exclusions were cut by 25%. It is argued that teacher social workers are helpful in alleviating the conflict between the New Labour government's Standards agenda and its Inclusion agenda.  相似文献

The investigators evaluated the SOAR-High (Science, Observing, and Reporting-High School) Project, a web-based earth systems science course involving collaborating teachers and deaf students at high schools in California, Washington, DC, and Indiana. In SOAR-High, students use Internet- and computer-based technologies to gather and report information. The investigators and stakeholders identified 4 key questions: (a) Are the SOAR-High students becoming proficient in using the science process skills? (b) Do the SOAR-High curriculum materials explicitly stress the use of science process skills? (c) Do the SOAR-High students develop skills to work independently? (d) Does the SOAR-High Project aid in student motivation? Quantitative and qualitative evaluative tools to address each question included student and teacher interviews, classroom observations, performance-based tasks, and reviews of student website work. Findings showed convincing evidence for affirmative answers to all 4 questions. However, some students described difficulties with the reading levels of the SOAR-High materials; some teachers expressed concern about SOAR-High's effectiveness because of its use with students at different grade levels.  相似文献

Maria Edgeworth was a nineteenth century novelist, primarily remembered for her adult and children's novels. Yet her book, Letters for literary ladies discussed the importance of science education for girls and in conjunction with her father, Richard Edgeworth, she wrote several treatises on education. Their book Practical education advocates an inquiry approach to teaching science and also using scientific practices, such as observation and data collection, to examine and plan children's education. They emphasised the importance and the role of experimentation, observation and critical thinking in the development of children's knowledge, skills and attitudes towards learning. However, the history of science education has to date ignored this seminal work and Maria's contributions to women's science education.  相似文献

英国自1980年实行择校政策以来,家长选择学校的权利在逐步扩大,对教育的民主化、开放化以及社会的融合起到了很大的作用。但其中也存在一些问题,比如:性向和能力两者之间界限含糊,导致学校挑选部分学生的标准不统一;家长选择学校的权利受到限制;操作过程中很多地方有失公平;诉讼案件增多,给学校和法院增添了负担等。面对这些问题,英国政府不断采取措施以完善择校政策。  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to provide statistical evidence to support the assumption that adolescents have personal and social problems which affect their school achievement. 217 eighth and ninth grade students from the Shawnee Mission Public Schools, Shawnee Mission, Kansas were given the Mooney Problems Check Lists and the SRA Achievement Series in September, 1964. Coefficients of correlation were then computed between the seven areas and a composite score of the Mooney and the ten subtest scores of the SRA. The statistical analysis revealed an inverse relationship between the number of problems reported on the Mooney and the student achievement scores as reported by the SRA. The relationship was statistically significant at the .01 level of confidence.  相似文献

目前,中小学教师流动出现了一些不合理现象:教师流失严重,流动单向性,流动人事纠纷日增,影响了基础教育全面、健康的发展。为了促进教师合理流动,应该采取以下措施:(一)建立教师定期轮换流动制,构建教师系统内流动机制。(二)广开入口,面向社会广辟师源;疏通出口,建立“竞争—淘汰”机制;建立教师人才市场,搭建教师交流平台,构建教师系统内与系统外之间流动机制。  相似文献
