China opening up: Chinese university journals and research — today and tomorrow

This paper provides a general background on China's academic publishing sector. It discusses the statistics of the sector, shows plans for future development, and offers a longer‐term view both from within and externally.     

从国际学术出版的困境看高校学报的优势

国际学术出版面临着财务的困难、垄断的威胁和订户的流失.在国际学术出版面临困境的情况下,高校学报将以其特有的优势,获得更广阔的发展空间.我国的高校学报不仅拥有学术成果基础,而且得到学校在资金和管理方面的支持,在研究生培养和教师队伍建设中发挥着重要作用,是学校的宣传窗口.只要以优势学科为龙头,高校学报就可以办成特色精品,吸引潜在的订户群,焕发勃勃生机.     

A different form of editor—author interaction: the approach of university journals in China

University journals in China exist primarily to showcase the academic research achievements of the university from which they originate. Although they do publish peer‐reviewed articles, their management, distribution, and editorial processes are different from those of regular academic journals. Because they are on campus, the editors of university journals can use face‐to‐face communication to help their authors to revise their papers. To maximize the efficiency of this communication, editors need to prepare well before giving such guidance in order to minimize publication delay, to provide useful guidance to groups of authors, and to improve their own editorial abilities and knowledge.     

国际著名检索系统收录我国高校学报的情况分析及应对策略

通过对美国SCI、Ei、MEDLINE、CA 等4种国际著名检索系统收录评价体系及我国高校学报被这4种国际著名检索系统收录情况的分析,认为我国高校学报应从提高学术质量、提升刊物的国际化程度、强化期刊的编排出版规范、缩短出版周期、注意英文写作规范、重视引文分析数据、加强对国际检索机构进行有针对性的宣传并与之动态联系等几方面入手,方能提高被国际著名检索系统收录的可能性.     

我国高校科技期刊被国际重要检索系统收录现状研究

为了使更多的中国科技期刊走向世界,加快信息传播国际化进程,正确认识高校科技期刊的地位和作用,对高校科技期刊与其他机构主办的科技期刊在国际重要检索系统被收录的情况进行研究.认为:高校科技期刊可以分不同层次,找准定位;发挥学科优势,组建团队,走联合办刊的道路;培育、打造高校科技期刊国际品牌.

Skill mix in primary care—creating a bibliography

Skill mix in primary care should be governed by research-based evidence of how skills may best be distributed among health professionals in order to optimize the cost-effectiveness of health service delivery. There is a dearth of research in this area, yet many changes in skill mix within primary care have still to be adequately researched. Existing evidence of the nature and cost-effectiveness of skill mix change is scattered across the specialist literature of many different disciplinary groups, making it difficult to form a coherent overview of service provision. This paper reports on a project that sought to create a comprehensive database bringing together specialist literature relating to skill mix in primary care, as resource for health services researchers, providers and purchasers in the UK.     

An international peer‐review system for a Chinese scientific journal

The characteristics and requirements of a world‐class journal were considered in establishing a rigid peer‐review system for scientific papers submitted for publication in the English‐language Journal of Zhejiang University SCIENCE [JZU(S)] from 2002 onward. Four hundred and thirty‐five contributions were received between January and December 2002, and these were sent for pre‐publication review to appropriate leading scientists in the USA, the UK, Ireland, France, Canada, Australia, Austria, Germany, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, Portugal, Italy, Israel, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, Singapore, Slovakia, India, Greece, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Our experience showed that such an international peer‐review system plays an important part in ensuring the high quality of a journal's contents and in helping it achieve an international reputation.
