学生英语学习困难的内在因素探微

教学中外语教师常感到困惑:同是一个老师教、同在一个教室学,为什么学外语的人各有成败?究其原因,就在于学习者"怎么学"?试图从学习者的内在诸多因素(包括生理因素,如年龄、性别;也有情感和性格因素,如智力、语言学习观、语言潜能、学习策略、语言习得等)中挖掘原因.认为,学生采取什么样的学习动机,什么样的学习策略与学习的好坏分不开.作为外语教师在教学中要充分应用成就动机归因理论,引导学生逐渐将兴趣转化为稳定的学习动机,帮助他们形成有效的学习策略,减少学生学习英语的困难,提高学习效率.

Is Statistical Learning Ability Related to Reading Ability,and If So,Why?

ABSTRACT

Previous studies found a relationship between performance on statistical learning (SL) tasks and reading ability and developmental dyslexia. Thus, it has been suggested that the ability to implicitly learn patterns may be important for reading acquisition. Causal mechanisms behind this relationship are unclear: Although orthographic sensitivity to letter bigrams may emerge through SL and facilitate reading, there is no empirical support for this link. We test 84 adults on two SL tasks, reading tests, and a bigram sensitivity task. We test for correlations using Bayes factors. This serves to test the prediction that SL and reading ability are correlated and to explore sensitivity to bigram legality as a potential mediator. We find no correlations between SL tasks and reading ability, SL and bigram sensitivity, or between the SL tasks. We conclude that correlating SL with reading ability may not yield replicable results, partly due to low correlations between SL tasks.

Some of the Reasons Why Preparing for Exams Is So Hard: What Can Be Done to Make It Easier?

Why it is so difficult to prepare for academic exams is reviewed with respect to recent research. Textbooks, teaching, and information processing characteristics of students all contribute to undermining effective learning and review. Recommendations are made about how instructors can make it easier for students to review and appraise their test readiness, as well as about how students can make a difference in the quality of their own preparations for tests.

构建终身教育体系是国家中长期教育改革和发展规划纲要提出的战略决策。然而,历经20年的努力,我国终身教育体系为何仍难以构建？阻碍构建终身教育体系的现实问题与当代困惑主要有四个方面：一是终身教育体系与既有国民教育体系的概念界定仍未明晰,固有的国民教育体系的转型与整合,已经成为构建终身教育体系的重大挑战;二是“校外教育”发展面临的体制问题长期得不到解决,成人教育开始陷入发展瓶颈,没有成熟而发达的校外教育资源,终身教育体系构建无异于一句空话;三是终身教育立交桥与各种教育资源整合的困惑,在于打通各种教育壁垒与阻隔,需促进由于历史原因和利益博弈所造成的纵向割裂、横向阻断的教育体制变革;四是国家终身教育立法难以实现,而地方性终身教育立法又往往狭隘化了终身教育的内涵,政府职能处在弱化状态,致使出现我国终身教育难以开展的困顿局面。

Empirically Supporting the Increasing Severity of College Counseling Center Client Problems: Why Is It So Challenging?

Since the late 1980s, college counselors have reported seeing increasing numbers of students who present with severe forms of emotional and psychological disturbance. However, little direct evidence has yet to demonstrate any trend in the level of severity of presenting problems. In this article, the authors explore methodological challenges for researchers who attempt to examine the question of increasing severity of client problems. Implications for college counseling centers are discussed.

The measurement of online self-regulation processes is a very important issue and in this rejoinder to Ainley and Patrick (this issue) I am arguing that including measures of metacognitive experiences, in conjunction with measures of other affective experiences, in various phases of task processing can increase the reliability and validity of online measures and our understanding of the self-regulation process. Furthermore, behavioral and performance measures as well as thinking aloud protocols can enrich not only the reliability and validity of our measures but also our awareness of the factors involved in the formation of the various facets of subjective experiences, be it affective or metacognitive.
